Rebuy Tournament question

I'm about to play my first live B&M tournament and have a few questions.First off it's $50+$5 entry fee with rebuys and add ons approx 50-80 playersI've played in live tourneys before but this is the first one with the rebuys and add ons.My question is should I buy the add on right away or even at all, I'm not sure it is neccessaryany answers or additional advice in playing such a tourney is welcome

Two schools of thought,Rebuy right away and have a big stack and be a bully-not my styleSit back and play tight during the rebuy time and let those who use rebuy as a crutch come into you with thier 2 pair into your str8 or something like that and let them double you up and get them to rebuy, then lean on them and get them to keep giving you thier chips.Also I never Add-on, if I am in bad chip position it is a losing equation, if I am in good chip position it costs me more. If it lets the pack catch you, so be it, but in the long run adding 1000 to a stack of 8000 in a tourney of 75 isnt going to make a long term difference, the way to look at it is that eventually you need to get all the chips to win, if you can do it on one buy-in you should be fine.Only rebuy if you take a really bad beat and are confident in the field that you can work back through it, but remember, when you rebuy you are probably still going to be the small stack.

Of course, then there's the strategy that Daniel used last year at one of the WSOP tournaments where he rebought almost 30 times from my recollection. He ended up finishing 3rd and more than made up all the re-buy fees, so different strokes for different folks.I don't think that I'll be copying that strategy!

If all goes right, I won't have to worry about a rebuy, although I'm willing to try it once, depending on the field, I'm still unsure about buying the add on right away or even after a while, i guess I'll play it by ear. Thanks for the advice

Re-buy tourneys suck, but they're better than nothing at all...A while back I played a 90/10 rebuy tourney at the Trump outside Chicago. At the end of the re-buy period I had worked my stack into a nice place, but then people got in their final re-buy and an add-on, and everyone had a stack comparable to the one I worked so hard for. My advice, playing in live tournaments is a great and exciting way to sharpen your skills, and if rebuy tournaments are all you can find, well, that's better than nothing, but if you can I'd reccomend a flat buy-in freeze out. People play like idiots when they know they can just reach into their wallet and pull out another bill.

I'm not sure where you are playing this tournament. But the experiences I've had with RB/AO tournaments is that you can rebuy during say, the first hour, or the first 2-3 levels. Some tourneys allow you to do this right after the hand where you fall below the starting stack. Some people wait until they are busted and then rebuy. But the add-on period is usually only after that first hour or the first 2-3 levels. It's a one-shot deal, everyone does it at the same time (those who choose to anyway) and that's that.Hope that helps,Ed

Unfortunately the rebuy tourneys are all they have, as it is I live 4 hours away from the nearest casino but I will be in the city on tournament day so I thought I'd check it out, thanks again for all the advice

OMG!!!......ROFLMAO!!!!Nice way to put it, but it does seem a bit excessive to find a game.
