what to do about check/calling idiots ?????

Recommended Posts

The check-call guys you are referring to are asking you to take their money. I often play $2-4 limit at B&M and quite frequenly I get somebody who even with absolute garbage, any draw, any pair will call all the way to the end and not think, care or consider what someone else has. Why do they play this way? It is because they have played over some period of time where they go on rush, or lucky streak where they pull miracle after miracle, give bad beat after bad beat and feel like their play is justified. I saw somebody at 2-4 win like $300 in about 2-3 hours because he kept sucking out repeatedly. Lucky to everyone at the table he continued to play for 3 or 4 more hours, and lost every cent. They cannot stop. Even when the luck tide was turning against this guy he would go through a very brief lucky streak and he would think that it would continue and would play the same exact way to build his chips back up to where they were before. Eventually he tightned up, but only after he was down to his last $40. Again you want these players in your game. Eventually, they will lose it all.

Quit poker and add 10 years to your life. Seriously if this sort of thing bothers you then poker isn't your thing. the best player doesn't always win, period. You will see plays like this at every level so don't blame it on limit or low stakes. In the low games guys like this will stick around when they get a piece of the flop out of ignorance(thats a good thing). At higher limits a better player might stick around with bottom pair with the hope of making a move on you if the flush card comes but they get even luckier when they trip up. You can't make money long term at cash game if you get steamed at bad beats.

I don't understand why people get so pissed off, if your a good player you'll run him down in no time with plays like that so what's all the fuss?I had a guy really pissed at me the other day for the way I played a hand. I've been playing 4 weeks so I'm a total newbie.I pull pocket rockets and the flop made me trips, with nothing else to worry me on the board I took it easy and waited for someone to jump in with a bet.The turn brought in a face card (can't remember what) and the action heats up. Either they made a pair or they wanted to buy the pot.I took my time calling.... He then drops an ALL-IN and I'm laughing all the way to the bank...Now I'm new to all this but doesn't that seem like the best way to play the hand I was dealt?

calling the flop is not nearly so poor as calling the turn., but both are poor plays.more importantly, the low limits are a crapshoot. with good table selection, i don't think win rates well above 4, and as high as 5-6 bb/100 are sustainable.i watched a table last night where two players capped every pre-flop and flop, and often bet/raised or called the later rounds with nothing. the two guys combined to drop about $300 in less than an hour in .5/1. even more amazingly, people were angry at them!when someone is playing terribly, i wish it was a live game so i could buy them a beer and chat them up. whether its calling with excellent hands or with terrible hands, they're either giving you money or saving you money. in both cases you should be thankful. though i do hate it also when i just get called by a huge hand, like the 10-10 situation.

This is in response to the new player's question about how to play AA.First off, Limit and No-limit HE are different in this regard; I'm going to focus on Limit in this post.In Limit, since you're starting with the best hand, your first goal is to limit the field that will see the flop. If you have 6 opponents taking the flop, someone is likely to get a flush, straight or two-pair and if you don't get trip Aces you're probably going to lose the hand. That's why it is crucial to raise pre-flop with this hand, unless you are in late position and everyone has folded to you. Even them you'd be taking a risk that one of the blinds catches a good flop.In the case you brought up, i.e. you flop your trips, you want to bet aggressively if you are facing more than two opponents, since you don't want anyone getting a free draw at a straight or flush. The only possible exception to this would be a rainbow flop with no obvious straight draws. If you are facing one or two opponents, and one of them bets into you, I'd call on the flop, raise or bet out or go for the check-raise on the turn and river. If they have a good hand, they will pay you off all the way to the river. If neither of your opponents bet on the flop, you should go ahead and play the turn and river aggressively - some players are far more likely to call bets than to bet themselves.

I'm just a little more than shocked that you would think someone at .50/1.00 shouldn't be misplaying a hand.
You obviously haven't seen much .50/1 holdem....
heh no I meant that it should be expected that a .50/1.00 player would be misplaying his hand heh.

I can see that this gives a lot of comments, both nice and......not so nice.I don´t complaine about him calling me, I know he puts money in our pockets in the long run.....But I don´t understand why he/they do it....But I think I got the answer........They do it for the fun of it.......They don´t care about winning or loosing......Thanks for all the replies......By the way.....VAGLVR.....I´m a proud Swede......and the guy who made the call was an American...... To us Europeans the US$ means a lot more then to many Americans...........It´s not just playmoney........
