Smasharoo 0
I've been thinking about the UB freeroll structure lately. They have a few freerolls a day that let you win UB points, bonus dollars, or a shot at 9 dollars and a $100 token for a big tournament.I have a freind who never put any money into UB but did this:Played in the points tournaments a lot. Made enough points to enter real tournaments (250 points buys you entry equivilent to $1 in a real money MTT). Won money in the real tournaments, played with the money. He cashed out $1500 last week.I just thought it was an intresting study in how you could litteraly make nothing into something if you're patient enough to play your way to cash in the freerolls. Suited_Up 2
It is very possible... but when you say patience, you really have to have it. Cause those freerolls are crazy. 2500 players who will push all in at any time. I'm sure someone has figured out a system to do well in them, but it really does take some time and effort. Nice to see someone beat the system so to speak though.
mystery trips 0
I did this back when they had twice a week freerolls for points, max 400 entries, about a 2500 point prize pool. and then they had tourneys with cash prizes that you could join for as little as 25 points. They stopped all this, of course. I bootstrapped it there and haven't looked back. Cashed out several times, I'm playing with house money always.

Snydz9 0
I too started with nothing at UB to work my way up the ranks...I started off only playing TEC Freerolls and Bonus Dollars and UB Points. This is done almost entirely because of my age...(which I will stand on the 5th for that one.) My first break came when I finished 14th at a TEC Freeroll qualifier. I made the Sunday Final and finished 9th, good enough for a TEC Entry and the $9 house fee. I entered one and won about $20. The next break came in finishing second in a Bonus dollars event, giving me 82.50 in bonus dollars. I set to work to earn my Bonus dollars with a mere $20. As you know winning Bonus $ on UB is somewhat complicated in that you earn them and Ultimate Points at the same time. So I started a game giving me an automatic double Ultimate Points. I played the required number of hands and cashed out of the table with $27. Not bad, but I had made Bonus $ and Ultimate Points, which I hadn't realized would pretty much set my account up for years to come. During this time I was also partaking in the freeroll tournies and gaining valuable Ultimate Points, TEC Final Appearances, Bonus Dollars, and even Placing Top 10 at a few more TEC Finals. When I finally worked that 82.50 of Bonus Dollars into my account, I had earned nearly 12,000 Ultimate Points and 500 more Bonus Dollars. My Real Money Account was now at 378.90 with 516.20 in Bonus Dollars and 11,879 Ultimate Points. When I had worked to a point where I had stopped playing Bonus Dollar Tournaments and Ultimate Point tournaments just trying to empty my Bonus Dollars and Ultimate Point funds into my account before I started back up again. By the time I did that I managed to evolve 6,000 dollars into my real money account, even though I am convinced I would have lost money or broken even without Bonus Dollars or Ultimate Points, seeing as I was fairly inexperienced and young at this time. So I started back up playing my freeroll tournies for practice of patience, hand reading, and all around poker skill and knowledge. It was a great learning experience as well as a great money making oppurtunity. I also played in smallish real money tournaments and faired decent-well, although I have made 15 out of 23 cashes I am still looking for the first win. But I have since then managed to take home 8 TEC Freeroll Qualifiers, meaning first place, not just top 50, as well as 2 Weekly Sunday Finals. The biggest win I had was a $30+3 tournament that I won a very good prize from. (You may say I contradicted myself with this statement, but look closely at the earlier statement, still looking for the first win in smallish size real money tournaments, like $1 buy in to $10 buy in.) My account is now worth roughly 17,000 dollars, but you will still find me in the freeroll tournaments and play money games when I get the feeling to release and play crappy poker and just throw away chips and play every hand, to me it is like a re-buy tournament for pros, both that can lead to a sizeable return for which you did not put much more than time into...
