pat tillman's family owed restitution?

Recommended Posts

Considering they and their son was used as a PR move?Thier family didn't know Pat was killed by friendly fire until 6 months after the government PR machine stopped promoting him.Pat's parents are pissed...and they should be.Yet Bush had the gaul to lay a wreath on the tomb of the unknown soldier yesterday.I myself am a veteran and find that rediculously offensive...a guy who never served who has sent thousands of men off to die for nothing and who exploited a hero(Pat) still tries to act like a man with honor. How is this doucke rocket a president again?Shouldn't he still be in jail for cocaine possesion?I keep sending him bags of pretzels, yet the monkey still lives. If anyone deserves a hard core stroke - it is him.I will leave you with System of a Down's new lyrics:You depend on our protectionYet you feed us lies from the tablecloth. Why don't presidents fight the war?Why do they always send the poor?Kneeling roses disappearing intoMoses' dry mouthBreaking into Fort Knox stealingOur intentionsHangers sitting dripped in oilCrying freedomHanded to obsoletion,Still you feed us lies from the tablecloth I wonder if Bush still likes his deal with the devil.

I'm not a veteran and I agree 99%. I still think the attack and slandering of John Kerry's war record was the most unbelievably lowest act anyone could ever have done. Here's a guy who actually served his country in a time of war, got wounded 3 times earning him 3 purple hearts, and these scumbag republicans made him out to be a traitor to America.I will never respect Bush or his cronies for this act of treason (in my opinion). And I think what he's done to America's world image through his BS War on Terror (a.k.a. War for Oil) should be grounds for his impeachment and charges of crimes against humanity.I don't, however, feel Pat Tillman's family deserves any restitution. I think it's disgusting how the US military lied about the circumstances to promote patriotism, but every soldier knows they might be killed, and there is no compensation for that.

Good point, every soldier knows they could be killed. That is not why they deserve compensation, though IMO.They were exploited and the governement benefitted from promoting Pat's death and his family, etc, misled the public about the circumstances of his death(which make him no less a hero to me, btw)The Tillman family was basically one huge cast on a non stop 6 month recruiting commercial. They pay actors to do that, why not pay the family they exploited and lied to?

I agree that the US military should be ashamed of the fact that they spun Tillman's death into something it wasn't purely for political gain. I agree that actor's who's image is used to sell something should be compensated, but in this case the only thing that was gained by the military and Bush was a sense of patriotism and possibly a boost in recruitment. They didn't make any money off of it, so I don't know that they could be held liable for any restitution. The whole thing sucks anyway. :club:

IMO they aren't owed anything but a sincere apology. That was terrible that the Army made up a story. They may have been doing it for the right reasons but it was still terrible.I won't go to far trying to defend one politician from another. But there were people with Kerry that said he made up a lot of that purple hart stuff. But it is almost comical when someone who doesn't even go makes fun of the other for what he did while he was there. IMO Kerry would have done the same thing to Bush if he could.....It's all who can lie the best or what dirt can be dug the best.

The military is taking a lot of heat, and deservedly so. If you lie to the military (or any governmental body), it's perjury, which is a felony.Yet when the government lies to you for 6 months unnecessarily...you get a "sorry?"Or how about the new recruiting violations that the army and marines have had since enrollment has decreased so much since the war started? One guy who quit his job said that all but one (of 74) of the soldiers he recruited didn't meet the official standards, and he estimates that about the same occurred for every other recruiter. These kids are dying for Iraq, and shouldn't even be allowed to serve. Then there's all the reports of prisoner abuse that we all know of.This is ridiculous. The military, and the government, should be held more accountable for their wrongdoings. All they get is bitched at by liberals and CNN whenever they do something wrong. They need some serious reform.

You'd be lucky to get a "sorry" from them.

I'm not saying Kerry didn't slander Bush in some way during the campaign, and I didn't vote for either of them, but Kerry could have easily raked Bush across the coals for his non-service in Vietnam (not to mention Cheney, and a host of other Bushies who found ways to get out of service), but he didn't. He didn't even defend himself against MOST of what Bush's crew put out against his service, which I think was his biggest failing.I dont' care what the severity of Kerry's wounds were that got him the purple hearts. Someone who gives them out felt that his injuries warranted it, so by military guidlines he deserved them. Do we honor our vets who fought any less just because they didn't get injured? They were lucky to get through untouched, but they served and fought and risked their lives nonetheless. Hell, I think every vet who serves in some conflict should get a purple heart simply for the emotional anguish and damage it can cause, whether you're physically injured or not.For Bush and his cronies to slander Kerry's military service record was absolutely the lowest, scumbag thing I think I've ever seen any politican do. I have no respect for Bush and never will. I think he's a failed president who THINKS he's doing what's right for this country but in the long run he's creating more enemies for the US. He's being viewed as a warmonger and aggressor and all these countries who are now afraid that we will invade are going to try to do something to stop us, and they'll be pre-emptive in their actions. It's going to happen again, it's just a matter of time, unfortunately.

I dont think Pat Tillman's family is owed restitution. He chose to go fight in the war and unfortunatley died under friendly fire. Deaths from friendely fire do happen. And I am not at all suprised that the current administration used his death to help promote the heroics of the war and try to get more people to serve. Any government would do the same thing. And who's to say if Tillman would not want the current administration to do this. I've seen interviews he made before he went to fight, and was very patriotic and felt it was his duty to be there. This is despite the all the facts at the time and that people were already calling it an unjust war effort. At that time, I personally felt that war was not a good idea, but Tillman however still chose to go fight. I've never read anything that said Tillman did not support the Bush Administration or its policy on war eventhough a good number of news sources were reporting the contray. For all we know Tillman may like the fact that his name was used to try and get more people to join the military.

Restitution is the act of compensating for an injury done. The issue here is not whether or not his name should have been thrown about to stir patriotism--I don't think anyone finds anything wrong with that--it's whether the family deserves restitution for being lied to by the military regarding Tillman's cause of death.

You're right about restitution, but did the military actually lie to his family or were they just in error until a more in depth investigation was done. I honestly have no idea how the military handles friendly fire incidents (I was never in the military). I imagine its something they dont like to make public. Who orginally revealed that Tillmans death was caused by friendly fire, the media or the army? And was the army trying to conceal the actual cause of death? I think these are important facts, and I dont know the answers.
