The Uselessness of Economic Development Incentives

States, cities and counties give away $80 billion per year, but that doesn't seem to create stronger economies or lower unemployment.

without CNN covering him the way they did I don't think Trump is President

.@CNN is so embarrassed by their total (100%) support of Hillary Clinton, and yet her loss in a landslide, that they don't know what to do.

Trump is not even president and he's saved more American jobs than Obama did in 8 years.

Obama quit trying when he failed to get the Olympics to come to America.

Found out it requires effort, so he went back to being a sound bite president who never actually did anything but blame others for everything.

But I am shocked how quickly the left was able to turn keeping jobs in America into a threat to America's future. It's almost like they worked on this to spin any accomplishment Trump does to give the sheep in line.

Jobs in America? Corporations will exploit this and the rich will get richer. Better to just lose the jobs and let the family's go on government assistance than risk a rich guy making more money...

They must have a full in the blanks dorm to make this statement.

Regarding (insert event here) today, we want everyone to know we deeply care for the victims and their families. However we do not want anyone to blame Islam just because the person was screaming Islamic statements. Nor should we blame this religion just because they have done this type of thing throughout their history of 1,700 years.

In fact somehow it is our fault for not caring enough.

Stealing my bit and trying to force it where it doesn't work is not helping your side.

You guys need to understand that you are falling apart. Your ideas have failed, your efforts were wasted, your political beliefs are soon to be trashed.

If you ever want to be politically relevant, you better change your message to one that doesn't hate progress, open mindedness, freedom and safety for all.

This is actually the more important issue since he goes into these meetings without proper briefing or understanding of complex International issues. The US should not do anything that undermines the relationshop with India which is a Democratic country that the US can work with on security issues in Asia such as countering Chinese influence.

Until Donald Trump's call, it's believed no US president or president-elect has contacted Taiwan's leader since 1979

sigh

See this is the problem. To China Taiwan isn't a country. Since Nixon visited China the position of the United States government has been that there is only one China and Taiwan isn't a country but a part of that one China. The US President doesn't phone up the leader of Taiwan without it being a very very very big deal to Beijing.

There is a reason that experts are needed and it's because of comments like yours. I don't blame you for not being aware of the subilties of the situation but for Trump to not know them and more important not know that he doesn't know them is scary as hell and it has nothing to do with left vs right. Most of the foreign policy and especially China experts I follow are Republicans and they are beside themselves at Trump doing this.

I do think Trump has a point, that we give them billions in aid, but we can't publicly acknowledge them is silly. But silly or not, who gives a **** if the Chinese actually take it as an insult, and it effects trade deals . If it was a calculated move, I'd love to hear what the calculation was. If it was just a blunder because he didn't know better, welp, it's going to be an interesting 4 years.

Trade has almost nothing to do with the danger with the Taiwan situation.

The party who had been winning elections in Taiwan the KMT always supported the position that there is only one China and was always careful not to claim independence since that would be a massive trigger point for Beijing. Basically Taiwan can be a country as long as nobody claims it's a country.

The party that won the last election and formed the current government has always had positions that support Taiwan claiming independence. China has already pushed back in many ways against both Taiwan and against other countries that they think are getting too close to Taiwan. For example they just seized some low tech armored personnel carriers that Singapore purchased from Taiwan when the ship they were on stopped in Hong Kong to send a message to both Taiwan and Singapore.

The danger in what Trump is doing would be in making Taiwan think that the United States is changing it's position about there only being one China and having them make some overt moves about claiming independence thinking that they have the full support of the US. The Beijing government will view that as an existential threat to them and will take all actions they can and that very easily could include things like a naval blockade of Taiwan and the shots could fly potentially. It's why this situation is so delicate.

Massive bargaining chip with the Chinese.

They're now worried he will recognize Taiwan. He's going to get something that benefits us from the Chinese in exchange for guaranteeing the Chinese that he won't recognize Taiwan, which isn't something he had ever planned on doing anyway but now is a marketable political asset. Given that he has a tough row to hoe with the (Chinese) over the next 4 years as far as bashing their faces in on trade imbalances, he needs as many trump cards (no pun intended) as possible and he just created a yuuuuuuuge one.

We will issue tariffs against many goods from the orientals, they will accept most of our goods tariff free and this matter will be settled entirely geopolitical matters that aren't even related to trade.

He is unarguably a master at some things.

This kind of shit is an example of what he is very, very good at. We haven't had this kind of man in office since Nixon and we've really paid the price on business matters.

I did not vote for him but I do not hope he fails. While he does his thing, the left will whine and post 'studies' that everything he's doing is a mistake and we should go back to the way things were before but his results will speak for themselves, good or bad, and on his results he will be judged.
