MapleLeafpoker 1,462
References to Benda was a nice touch, took me back to my university days. It amazes me how this elections political party ideology differences have little in common with the arguments we used to have back in those days of Conservatives vs Liberals. Hard to believe I was the conservative voice against all those Liberals at York U. When did a desire for a truly free market economy+minimal governance turn into hatred of gays+Muslims. There's a great line from the show The Newsroom when a Republican bemoans that being a RNC member suddenly means he has to think that Tornadoes are caused by gay marriage. Fenxis 99
What are you taking about. I'm not Muslim I know that, you know that. But does Joe Deplorable care? All he sees is someone that looks like they are from the middle east. edit: It could be just alarmist of me but people have been trash in England since Brexit so who knows... MapleLeafpoker 1,462
Ironically I was the Liberal voice at York. Where I received my political science degree The liberal voice? Everyone there was the liberal voice, every teacher I had but one and almost every student there.

Lol this is so true. Mog related but me and a buddy had names for a huge percentage of the girls. We used to call them factory made. They all dressed the same and looked the same. I guess that comment could get me in trouble.
FCP Bob 1,312
The liberal voice? Everyone there was the liberal voice, every teacher I had but one and almost every student there. My Industrial Relations prof at U of T was one of Mulroney's chief advisors on the Canada US Free Trade Agreement. Was great hearing him go off topic about how he had just got back from meetings in Ottawa and telling us what was going on. Our guest speakers ranged from Bob White and Leo Girard from the Union side of things to the President of General Motors Canada giving management's prospective.

I have very very rarely , been identified as Muslim. Be it in Toronto or California. Maybe here due to a huge Armenian population and a very low Muslim population. In Toronto huge diversity so you don't here as much racism at all.
MapleLeafpoker 1,462
I really regret taking Poli Sci courses at York. It was so blatantly one sided, it was a constant battle to bs my way thru the courses, going against my actual thoughts and just putting in the garbage they wanted to hear. Did help me in the future knowing how to bs in my work. Journalism was great though. Learned a lot, met some great teachers and I loved things like Philosophy of Law, industrial Revolution courses. I really miss University life sometimes.
MapleLeafpoker 1,462
Bob I may have asked you this before, but what are your thoughts on Paul Martin? Your memory of your prof reminded me of getting to meet Martin, help with his campaign, my high school Law teacher grew up with Martin or was friends or something. I liked Martin a lot, I recall that I think I really liked his economic policies. Was it just me being taken by the connection?

I really miss University life sometimes. I only took one "poli sci" course at University and that was International Relations. Here was my prof. I still remember that he made us buy his book, "Canada as a principal power". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Kirton

FCP Bob 1,312
Long but very good article that isn't just about this election but the future as well. Donald Trump’s success reveals a frightening weakness in American democracy Trump found a flaw in our political system, and we have no way to fix it.

I liked Martin a lot, I recall that I think I really liked his economic policies. Was it just me being taken by the connection? I miss the centrist parties in Canada (Progressive Conservatives and the "blue" liberals like Martin ; minus the scandals). I want parties that were financially responsible and want to be socially responsible (in a sustainable way). That looked at programs in terms of ROI for benefit, not just make decision on ideological grounds, etc.
Fenxis 99
You have to scroll down a bit but a 100 item takedown of trump's business https://twitter.com/kurteichenwald eg: 1.Trump lied to Congress that he was not meeting with any Indian casino executives when documents and sworn statements show he was. 2.Trump testified under oath that he is willing to claim success on something even when he knows his claim is false. 4. Trump said under oath that he determines his net worth based on how he feels. 53. Trump’s efforts in India were first shot down by politicians. His business partner is now under investigation by police. 55. Trump’s business partner in Turkey has been arrested for fraud. 57. Trump’s first business partners in UAE were indicted on charges of fraud. 59. Trump tried to strike a deal Libyan Investment Authority under Qaddafi, and offered murdering Libyan dictator a place 2 stay at his home 70. Trump has said he has been forced to use China to manufacture his clothing line because no one makes such things in USA. That’s a lie. 52. Trump receives $8 million a year from South Korea business w/ interests in nukes. He has called for SK to have nukes. 31. In 1990, one of Trump’s lieutenants told me ““The thing you don’t understand about Donald Trump is that he’s mentally ill.” Look I think Clinton is shifty as heck; I think she does have honest intentions but hey to throw in some Shakespeare "absolute power corrupts absolutely". I don't know, maybe the two term limit needs to apply to spouses as well. Meanwhile the Donald is incompetent / fraudulent / disillusional on so many levels
Fenxis 99
Ann Coulter Verified account @AnnCoulter If only people with at least 4 grandparents born in America were voting, Trump would win in a 50-state landslide. Though ironically under that scheme Trump and his kids wouldn't be able to vote I think the implications of what she is suggesting is clear.
iBeaver 409
She's an idiot. Not only did Trumps grandparents immigrate here, the vast vast vast majority of African Americans have grandparents that were born here. So they would be the majority vote and that wouldn't be good for her horse.
