Vegas Knights 57
I was staying in Vegas earlier this week and read the Plaza hotel (downtown Vegas) was having low buy-in tournaments throughout the day. I decided to check it out. I was surprised to see the room had digital poker tables which I knew nothing about. The room manager was nice and quickly showed me how to play at the terminal. I then bought into a small low buy-in Hold’em tournament that had 16 players seated at two tables. After I got the hang of it I really liked it If you want to raise someone to 2500 you just tap on the 1000 chip symbol twice and the 500 chip once and bet. It then asks you to confirm and you tap the confirm symbol. I also like the fact that when there are two players and one is all in it shows the win probability rate for each hand on the middle screen. You also don’t have to worry about dealer mistakes, misdeals, accidently mucking the best hand, etc. Anybody ever play live Digital poker? If you haven’t do you have any opinions on it. If you scroll down to the bottom of this website- http://www.plazahotelcasino.com/ -it shows you a picture of the machine. The player in the picture has Ace King. You will notice the player has his hand cupped over the hand. Once you lift your hand off the screen the image disappears. To see your cards again you just cup your hand over it again. Edit: Here's a link that shows what the entire table looks like http://www.plazahote...no.com/blog/
CorvairShaggy 5
I played on one of these on a Carnival Cruise back in early 2008. Pretty fun actually. There was a group of about 15 or so of us that played during the 5 day cruise. Other than shore excursion days or seeing the goofy shows at night, I was at the table. I still prefer chips and cards, but not bad tho. WAAAY better than the digital craps table. Those things are pathetic. Some things you just can't digitally recreate.

But it seems that with some Vegas poker rooms closing in places like the El Cortez and Circus Circus digital tables might keep some rooms open since the rooms don't have to pay dealers. Also in Vegas you are expected to tip the dealer after winning a hand whereas you don't have that issue with digital tables. I read digital is popular in Madison Wisconsin so it does seem some other players like it too. I asked the room manager if there were any other digital rooms in Vegas and he said the Plaza was the only place.
Vegas Knights 57
Another thing I like about digital is it shows the exact chip counts of everyone at the table which is good information to have especially at the final table of a tournament.

king_tanner 84
Is the rake on those still ridiculous? I played one on a cruise ship also. If it wasn't for the rake it would have been awesome. I'm pretty sure the rake is why they haven't caught on unless they have fixed that. If I remember it correctly it was taking $10 out of $100+ pots. I was just playing 1/2 NL, not tournaments

king_tanner 84
I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure the 10% is universal on those things (at least I've heard all of them are 10%) which is quite a bit especially for low stakes games.
CorvairShaggy 5
I don't remember what the rake was, but as a recreational player, I would much rather play live and tip (tipping the dealer should be a MUST anywhere, unless the dealer is a douche) than play a digital machine. I can play digital at home, so why travel somewhere to play digitally? But, if I was at a gambling spot (Race Track, Casino, Cruise Ship, Etc.) and thy don't have a real poker room, then the machines would work just fine. I won't play those digital blackjack machines though. Just have to be a complete degen to play those things IMO.

Vegas Knights 57
I can play digital at home, so why travel somewhere to play digitally?Yeah, but US players (except for 3 states) can't legally play online for money.
Vegas Knights 57
I believe the Plaza has only tournaments. They are played every couple of hours. The tournament I played in was $12 buy-in with $2 dollars going to the house. There were unlimited buy-ins the 1st 4 levels and you could enter late up to an hour and 20 minutes after it started. If you scroll down this link it shows what the entire table looks like: http://www.plazahote...no.com/blog/130 LOL, it says you can reserve the room for parties.
CorvairShaggy 5
Yeah, but US players (except for 3 states) can't legally play online for money. Correct me if I am wrong, but hasn't it been illegal the whole time? The only reason it is dead in the US right now is because there is no big sites left that will let US players play. If I remember correctly, in the early-mid 2000's during the first crackdown, Stars/Tilt were not the major players. After that, they stayed while the other big dogs at the time left. Then those 2 became the big dogs even after the UIEGA became enacted (2007?). The only reason poker is not that big of a deal anymore is because the games that US players can play are very limited, and getting your cash out takes forever and is a gamble at that. The days of making a living off playing online like alot of the 20-somethings did is gone. Yes, there are a few that still can, but it is not like it was. I know alot of people that use to post here were practically printing cash. Alot of things in life are technically illegal, but it doesn't stop people from doing those things. It just depends on how you rationalize your actions. Anyway, off topic, but I hate it when people bring up the " It's illegal" line.
ChicagoPhil 1
Can you legally heckle the other players on these machines? Sounds like a fun time!!
king_tanner 84
Can you legally heckle the other players on these machines? Sounds like a fun time!! The way I played it, it is the same as sitting around a poker table the only difference is you have a monitor at each seat. So yes table talk is still in play and you can even get physical tells from people

It has never been illegal for residents in most US states to play (save Washington, as far as I am aware. About 9 or so other states had other restrictions that put it in a gray area). The illegality was always with the sites offering the games, not the players playing them. The UIGEA attempted to further remove the ability of offshore sites to receive money from US residents. The various Attorneys General of various states have taken enough action under their state laws to drive out the major sites from being able to conduct business with US residents. Vegas Knights 57
can you lean over and look at the other guys screen to see his cards? The screen is touch activated,. You cup your hand over the cards and they appear. Once you remove your hands from the screen, your cards are immediately covered up, Nobody can see your cards but you.
