SuitedAces21 2,722
keep the faith bob. knicks with a good pick for once. long live king phil.
David_Sklansky 1,903
long live king phil. The only King Phil is also a Knight (I really am weirdly proud of this awful pun, and don't know why). That said, Phil has impressed the hell out of me with his approach to this position, and I'm curious to see the fan reaction down the line. Dolan is a pro and will charge it to the game, but Knicks fans are going to be full of so much rage when they realize he just hustled them out of all that dirty money. I always just assumed that he was a homo, cherry picking coaching jobs to keep his legacy in tact. But now I think coaching is just a pain in the ass, and he was simply waiting for a no-show job to top off the war chest. He is a Winner, you have to give him that.
Essay21 2,385
Wiggy wore it better. If only I didn't hate Dan Gilbert I could like the cavs. Kyrie and wiggy? That's a nice pair right there.
BigDMcGee 3,352
The only King Phil is also a Knight (I really am weirdly proud of this awful pun, and don't know why). But now I think coaching is just a pain in the ass, and he was simply waiting for a no-show job to top off the war chest. He is a Winner, you have to give him that. On top of that, he smoked pot openly (and LSD too, I assume) and was a giant hippie in the 70's, then couldn't get a coaching job in the 80's because of his druggie reputation and had to coach in the CBA and Puerto Rico, even though he won a championship as coach in the CBA. IT's not like he cherry picked his first coaching gig. He interviewed for assistant gigs in the NBA for years before Doug Collins hired him as an Assistant in 87. When Collins was fired in 89, Phil was able to take advantage of what a cheap bastard Reinsdorf and Krause were, by weaseling his way up from assistant to head coach. It's not remembered now because he's such a legend, but at the time it was a controversial decision since he'd only been coaching in the NBA a couple seasons, and he had such a hippie reputation from his playing days. Since the bulls had Jordan entering his prime, people thought the bulls needed an established coach, and saw this the Jerrys just being WOAT cheapskates. And then Phil gravy trains Jordan and the rest is history. I feel like overcoming a Druggie reputation into becoming the GOAT NBA coach is an underrated part of Phil's winning legacy. BigDMcGee 3,352
Only player to credit LSD with improving his play Phil Jackson, New York, 1973-74 Jackson was an unconventional dude long before he became one of the NBA's most celebrated coaches. In his 1975 book "Maverick: More Than a Game," Jackson claimed that some LSD he gobbled for breakfast in Malibu in May 1973 lent his game a boost. The shaggy-haired Knicks forward said the "spiritual flash" he experienced that day on the beach gave him a new love for the sport and a deeper appreciation of team play. He credited it with making 1973-74 the most productive season of his career, as he averaged 11.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2147522 Winner

David_Sklansky 1,903
I knew he at least must be cool with pot, considering MJ's reputation...maybe this is a bad read, but I don't think Pop would be thrilled if Duncan started showing up to games with his eyes all Jordaned out. BigDMcGee 3,352
Bad Read. Duncan is from the Bahamas and 90 % of the NBA smokes weed. Pop is 100% cool with it or he wouldn't be a coach.

I more meant about actually being higher during games, the joke being that Jordan's eyes always look red as if he is high. Which is only like 50% likely to be the reason his eyes look red.
