The 2014 Fallsview Poker Classic has been announced for Feb. 18-24, 2014 and with it will be the long awaited comeback of the World Poker Tour in Niagara Falls, Ontario, once home to WPT North American Poker Championship, the largest single event tournament prize pool on Canadian soil with over $4,374,475, with the elite of the poker world in attendance.

A total of 3 major tournaments will be showcased with buy-ins of $1,100, $2,500 and the $5,000 main event. This year’s Fallsview Poker Classic garnered an impressive total prize pool of $2.27 million across the 3 events. But 2014 should see that amount shattered.

With the success of the WPT Montreal boasting a combined prize pool of over $2.7 million in the main event alone, the WPT-powered Fallsview Poker Classic backed by online satellites exclusively on partypoker.net, we can expect the bar to be raised yet again in Canada.

For those of you who want to satellite into the event but can’t attend the live satellites, in just a few weeks, you will be able to qualify via online satellites on partypoker.net, the exclusive online destination to qualify for the WPT Fallsview Poker Classic.

Make no mistake this event will be huge and is not to be missed.

Lapossie Carries Big Lead to Day 2 at WPT Fallsview Poker Classic

Level 13: 1,000-2,000, 300 ante

Play has concluded on Day 1 of the World Poker Tour Fallsview Poker Classic where a big field of 383 turned out in search of the next WPT title. From that field 114 players have survived, with Matthew Lapossie enjoying a big rush near the end of play to grab the chip lead then extend it further. Lapossie bagged up 417,400 chips before departing, a stack well ahead the chase pack.

Among others ending the night well included Sylvain Siebert who has a couple of WPT final tables in Canada to his credit already (both in Montreal). Siebert's stack of 264,800 positions him well for tomorrow. Others who will start Sunday in good shape include Elliott Smith (235,400), WPT Champions Club member Soren Turkewitsch (230,600), Travell Thomas (217,000), and Pirooz Bayat (214,600).

Mike Leah won a preliminary event here this week at Fallsview, and he, too, returns to a handsome stack of 173,700. Yann Dion, Curt Kohlberg, Mike Watson, and Peter Jetten are likewise above the average. Meanwhile, many notables failed to survive today's 13 levels, among them Mike McDonald, Jonathan Little, Scott Clements, Shannon Shorr, Bryn Kenney, Andrew Lichtenberger, Tony Dunst, and Vanessa Selbst.

Players have all departed, with many of the Canadians left in the field making plans to get up early for the 7 a.m. start of tomorrow's gold medal men's hockey match in Sochi versus Sweden. We're off, too, to get some rest, and we'll all get back together at noon ET on Sunday for Day 2 for 10 more one-hour levels of poker. See you back here then.

Day 3 Awaits; Jason James Leads Final 10 at Fallsview

Level 23: 10,000-20,000, 3,000 ante

Niagara Falls! Slowly they turned, step by step, inch by inch... at last reaching today's last day of play in the World Poker Tour Fallsview Poker Classic.

While we couldn't resist referencing the vaudeville sketch (made famous by Abbott & Costello, The Three Stooges, and others), in truth the pace has been rapid here in the Grand Room of the Fallsview Resort Casino with 383 entrants playing down to 114 on Day 1, then down to just ten yesterday. Jason James bagged the most chips of anyone last night with his stack of just over 2.6 million -- a full million clear of the chase pack.

With many cashes at the WSOP and elsewhere already under his belt, James hopes to land a career-highlight score by winning here today. But he'll have to outlast some tough competitors including EPT Barcelona final tablist Matthew Lapossie, Dylan Wilkerson (with 15 WSOP cashes and numerous other scores to his credit), and Josue Sauvageau who looks to improve on his fifth-place finish in this same event a year ago.

Here's how the chip stacks will look as today's first hand is dealt along with the seating chart:

Seat 1: Spiro Mikrogianakis - 1,455,000

Seat 2: Jason James - 2,606,000

Seat 3: Howie Leung - 657,000

Seat 4: Josue Sauvageau - 1,234,000

Seat 5: Xiaohu Chen - 237,000

Seat 6: Peter Labib - 1,238,000

Seat 7: Ben Graham - 1,556,000

Seat 8: Dylan Wilkerson - 982,000

Seat 9: Matthew Lapossie - 1,171,000

Seat 10: John Boulougouris - 255,000

And here is what they are playing for:

1st: $363,197 (CAD); $326,866 (USD)

2nd: $254,238 (CAD); $228,806 (USD)

3rd: $163,439 (CAD); $147,090 (USD)

4th: $121,066 (CAD); $108,956 (USD)

5th: $90,799 (CAD); $81,716 (USD)

6th: $72,639 (CAD); $65,373 (USD)

7th: $60,533 (CAD); $54,478 (USD)

8th: $48,426 (CAD); $43,582 (USD)

9th: $36,320 (CAD); $32,687 (USD)
