Adelson Has About 24 Experts Working Nearly Full Time To Ban Net Gambling

Recommended Posts

Regarding multi-billionaire Sheldon Adelson (the CEO of the Venetian and Palazzo casinos in Las Vegas) and his efforts to kill online gambling/poker.

From the Washington Post by Peter Wallsten and Tom Hamburger

"Advisers to Adelson say he is intensely focused on the coming battle and talks about it every day with his staff. He has about two dozen experts working nearly full time on the issue. “In my 15 years of working with him, I don’t think I have ever seen him this passionate about any issue,” said Andy Abboud, Adelson’s top political adviser."

Since multiple casino owner Adelson is allegedly so concerned about young people he should also spend money to ban residential swimming pools since so many young people die every year in them.

He should also spend money to support the banning in the home of alcohol (which is addictive), tobacco (which is addictive and causes cancer), pornography (which is said to be addictive and can cause other problems with young people), gasoline, matches, guns, and kitchen knives, since so many children and teens can have access to these dangerous and/or addictive items.

Reminds me of Jack Thompson and his crusade against video games

Or the crusade against the evil pinball pushers:

This article says Adelson's wealth grew an average of 41 MILLION "a day" in 2013. No wonder he can afford to pay about 24 experts working nearly full time.

Time to start supporting those that support internet gaming, namely MGM and Caesars properties:

+1

In 2011 195,000 people died from medical malpractice and 12,000 by drunk drivers. I think we should ban doctors and cars too. They are far to accessible.

I read in the March 2nd Las Vegas Review Journal newspaper that Las Vegas is now the leading candidate to host the 2016 Republican National Convention. I'm sure Adelson's money has a lot to do with that.

For the conservative Republican party to choose Las Vegas as the place to hold its national convention shows that Vegas and gambling (as entertainment) is pretty much accepted by mainstream America now.

Oddly enough the last two times I was in Vegas I stayed at Venetian, the first time was awesome, the second was a nightmare as they wouldn't honour the deal the poker room had set up for rooms (hats off to the poker room for sorting it out way after the fact!). So now all this crap from Adelson and I'm happy to say I'm not staying there for my WSOP trip this year...

From a NY Times article by By NICHOLAS CONFESSORE and ERIC LIPTON

Below is a quote from former Las Vegas mayor Jan Jones regarding Adelson's group's bill to outlaw online gambling:

“It is unfortunate, when an industry undermines itself,” said Jan L. Jones, a former mayor of Las Vegas who is now the head of government relations at Caesars Entertainment, which is opposed to the bill. “This fight is tarnishing the entire industry. You just raise a whole specter of negativity that I think is unfortunate and inappropriate, after we have spent the last three decades with a message that gaming is just entertainment enjoyed by responsible adults.”
