Not facetious, I am genuinely ignorant about Toronto. Never been to Canada before.

Re: Yorkville, I dig cool jazz clubs, that sounds right up my alley.

p.s. hey MDG, what's up? You got kids now?

Just didn't want to look stupid. It's a pretty famous 'underground' place, with all the appropriate irony that statement entails. For a music-lover like yourself, it is a must-see, even just because it is famous, and not necessarily because it is better. Though you probably don't know any Canadian bands, you'll be impressed at the quality of music at pretty much any random bar. Any band looking for action in Canada will go to Toronto and just try to get a regular bar gig going, so even hole in the wall type places have real music for minimal covers.

Can't make any specific recommendations on jazz clubs in Yorkville as I haven't been in 10 years, but google a couple spots just to target and you'll probably end up finding more. Seriously though - a fancy jazz club might be one block away from a scary-ass club where people get shot, so keep your bearings.

My only other suggestion is when it comes to travelling between cities in Canada. Canada is really big. I know this isn't news, but just think that Toronto to Montreal is about twice as far as London to Sheffield, even though they're the closest major cities (no one cares about Ottawa or Quebec City). And unlike Europe, there isn't great travel options to get from city to city - it is either a very long bus ride or a flight. You'll have a better trip choosing as few cities as possible to spend some time in, rather than trying to get in a ton of different cities.

Hi! Yep, I've got a 19-month old son, who is the best and cutest thing ever. Today is actually my 5-year anniversary (yes, I'm working, but only because I'm taking all next week off to go to NYC) to the same lovely woman you'll recall from Sick Thread days. Life is excellent. Glad to see you're travelling and still living the good life - hope all is well.

Also there's perfectly decent rail options in the Windsor-Quebec city corridor.

I would go by rail from Ottawa or Montreal to Toronto if I was staying downtown like LG is.

What mdg is referring to being shot in yorkville or around that area I can't understand. In and around yorkville is very safe. Now you don't venture into parkdale or regent park but those areas are not next to yorkville

Been to regent park lately?

Regent Park is not really around the corner from Yorkville..

Also the city is revitilizing Regent Park..Lot of high end condos have gone in..Have done several mortgages for this clients..Its becoming a better neighbourhood.

There are still buildings that are crack infested..

I got a call from a potential client few months ago, asked to meet me at one of these apartments...I googled the number and it said Canada Post wont deliver there due to the situation of the building and people in it..So I told him, sorry cant meet you there..

Really?

Yup, you were shown walking through the door into the restaurant and then really briefly at the table eating. One of the other people from the long youtube spot had the prominent role.

drive by it a lot. Use to drive by it everyday when i worked downtown. To be honest I would not be afraid to walk around there at night. I guess delivering Chinese food for years at Jane and finch does something to you

How long would it take you? I feel like it is a much better option, but have never actually done it between cities of a reasonable distance (only taken the train long distances as part of a long trip!)

I hope that's true, though a lot of the jazz clubs are already on the outskirts of Yorkville. Plus, this is different than you or Wayne walking around. LG will be by herself and looks like a 16-year old girl, so she'll need to at least be aware of where she should turn around.

Happy holidays..

Thanks!
