Here's causes of death ages 25-34:

http://www.statcan.gc.ca/pub/84-215-x/2011001/tbl/t004-eng.htm

I think another thing I remember from when I first read this stat, perhaps it was under the umbrella of "preventable" deaths.

Anyways, accidents is number 1 for that age group, although I assume that includes more than just car accidents. Though is assume car accidents would be a large proportion of it.

Heavy Rescue Squad 331. Beaten up, soaked, and with bellies full of smoke. Best job in the world.

Not spin, I just think most people don't realize how intrinsically dangerous this activity they do velvety day is, and take it for granted.

Frankly, I think that's probably part of the pro car spin more than the anti-car lobby (of which I don't consider myself).

You don't think we all know that cars are dangerous?

If you have driven a car for 10-15 years, there is a very good chance you have been in an accident or seen an accident that shook you up. We all know the fears. And we have all heard the "car is the most dangerous thing you can do" line a million times. (well, at least I have)

Ok Serge, but I guess my point is that these are, for the most part, preventable deaths.

Or at the very least, for some reason we find this level of premature death to be at acceptable levels, as some sort of trade off to live in auto-dominant environments.

If that's the case, it's a decision we made as a society. Hopefully an informed one.

Fair enough. Just something I hadn't thought of much before. Remember, I myself am coming from a car dominant upbringing and city, so lots of this is new to me.

I've also developed a terrible habit of repeating things I read, likely with memory mistakes and without any sort of sourcing. :)

Smoking never kills you when you start at 13, that doesn't mean smoking is fine for a 13 year old.

To quote about how dangerous car driving is for a segment of the population who has never done it before, and is prone to irresponsibility when given a high degree of responsibility, is to drastically spin the effect of cars on our society as a whole.

You want a discussion on whether 25-34 year olds should be driving at all, or with some different laws, fine. Don't tell the 60 year old he should be using public transit because the 25year old doesn't know how to drive a car safely.

its a VERY weak argument...If you want to the amount of cars, people dying in them isnt a reason to stop it..

You know what will prevent you from dying ...Dont leave your house..Eat broccoli all day...

I'm having my rebellious period 10 years late maybe. Rejecting what we would call societal norms because I think we can do better. Lol.

I think its great to question societal norms. I still do it today at 42. I just think you should also question the people who are teaching you to question some of those societal norms.

Analyze it all, don't just take the expert in the fields opinion.

Just my 2 cents

Excellent advice. It's why I come to you. :)

lol, thanks.

Frankly, I'm still reading all your stuff, because well, I think you know what you are talking about and are smart enough to learn the rest of the new things being thrown at you.

I'm genuinely curious to see how this all works out, I'm predicting some day I will say "ya, I knew Zach Henderson when....."

This has nothing to do with anything said in this thread/forum.......my wife told me that a 6yr old kindergarten student at her school (she's a teacher) was found murdered today.

Her father+brother are in hospital, news reports say it was murder-attempted suicide by the Dad.

So sad, like wtf, how does it get to that? Awful.

This is the hotel on warden and 401. We used to go there a lot in the charity casino days.

Disgusting story. So sad.

It's beyond imaginable

I don't understand depression because I've never really suffered from it, but I understand how depression could lead somebody down the path to an eventual suicide. I honestly can't imagine how any mental disorder could lead a father to murder his own children. I can't comprehend that somebody who is sane enough to function in any way in normal society could wind up in that situation. That is incomprehensible, what a tragedy.

I m a big fan of Dateline. They show murder mysteries. Real life. Lot of times a husband who wants to get out of a marriage kills the wife and kids.

Get a ****ing divorce. It's one thing killing a spouse. But an innocent young child. There are no words v

I had my son's (or Otto) 1 year old birthday party there 16 years ago. We had just over 100 people attend.
