I like it because it focuses on meaning.

Here's a question for you:

Do you think Rob Ford is in a vulnerable position?

To head off your argument, I think referring to Rob Ford being bullied is pretty much the same as referring to my son as 'starving'.

Technically, he fits the definition. But to refer to him publicly and often as 'starving' does a huge disservice to children in 3rd world countries...

My answer would probably sway between No to I don't know, depending on how you want to define vulnerable.

Personally, by my definition, no I do not think think he is in a vulnerable position.

I think Chris put it well, again.

I'm not sure what bullied children has to do with this conversation. Is the term bully only applicable when children are involved?

I think he is in a vulnerable position. I also think he's being intimidated in an effort to force him out of office.

Why isn't this considered bullying? Because he's not a child? Because he's responsible for the position he's put himself in? Because he should out of office?

Because when young teens are committing suicide to escape bullying, referring to this lying crack smoking sack of shit as 'bullied' is BS. Just because the technical definition is right doesn't make it right. And that's it for me... I stopped posting about hockey because I didn't want to get into arguments with people I like. I'm not getting into an argument about politics...

A good man? Where are you getting this from?

The left wing media? The right wing media? Or you know him personally and haven't told us?

What are the tons of good things he has done?

Ya, I am confusing your support for him with condoning what he's done, and its quite disappointing frankly. I dont recall you being this genial and forgiving of Dany Heatley for speed racing, but suddenly drinking and driving, doing crack cocaine is just a mistake in judgement and an addiction. Maybe its not an addicition, and he's just weak?

Against my better judgement Ill try and respond to you..Everyone else in the thread has been respectful in their arguments, but you seem to attack my integrity and beliefs when it comes to this issue. Bringing up Dany Heatley really?

You either dont understand, or fail to read my posts and comments on the subject. I have NEVER condoned his behaviour..I have always stated that the man has a problem...Its pretty obvious from the things that are going on. Actually today he finally admitted to having an issue and he is trying to get professional help.

No one (well I dont think I ever) said that doing crack cocaine and whatever else he did was a mistake in judgement...He has a problem in his personal life....

He has done a lot for his city and his community. Its obvious he loves this city...His coaching of football and helping inner city kids through the sport for 12 years is well documented. His policies , cutting perks for politicians, the transit etc are well in line with my views...He is also someone I can relate to..He is a real man, with real problems...Not a fake politician..Not a hypocrite like his detractors...He is also a huge huge sports fan..Especially supporting the teams of this wonderful city. The more I read about his policies, the more I agree with him..

Does that make me a right winger, that hates the tree hugging, bike riders downtown? Maybe...If so I apologize for my political views..But I respect everyones views on politics and political events, even if I choose not to agree..

From what I have read, before all this came out a HUGE majority of Torontonians loved this man and would vote him in again easily...As a matter of fact a recent poll showed that even today after all this, after all the drug use, drinking, allegations more than 20 percent of Torontonians would reelect him today...Thats ahead of a lot of other candidates.

Rob Ford also has a LOT of problems. This isnt new...His drug use, DUI charges in Florida go back 15 years...He is human..He is obviously overweight, has a drinking and most likely a drug problem.

I am not forgiving him for lying, I am not condoning his behaviour..I , much like others, have compassion for a man, a politician that was voted in by a huge majority...

I hate the hypocrisy of the politicians. They say they cant get to work, they say its a distraction..Well the councillors and the left wing media( yes I will keep using that term) are the problems.

I really enjoyed reading Chris's post( other than the fact it was purely structured esthetically). However we have differing views on the media. He seems to think they are doing us a service by going after Rob Ford..I think its the same as the paparazzi that go after all the celebrities and digging up dirt where 80 percent of the stuff is false..Also I dont think we can equate movies stars, sports celebrities to Rob Ford...He isnt an entertainer, he signed up to serve the city and make it a better place to live in.

In recent months the Globe and Mail and the Toronto Star look more like the Toronto Sun and the National Enquirer then a legitimate newspaper. Thats not what we want from our journalists. They hound him all day and night, at his house, at his moms house...Everywhere he goes..Yes its bullying, yes its a witch hunt...

Did Rob Ford bring this on himself, absolutely....Does Rob Ford deserved to be lynched and prosecuted in public , hell no....Should Rob Ford step down, or at least take an extended leave of absence...YES ..100 percent yes..

Maybe we both agree on the subject if you look at it closely enough. I see a good politician with views that I agree with, that has a lot of problems...A lot of personal problems.

We shouldnt attack a man and pile on, and bully him just because we want to see another joke on the Jimmy Kimmel show.

We shouldnt laugh, we shouldnt ridicule...Its a human tragedy...Its a man with a lot of demons..If the councillors and the media dont back off a bit, its not going to end well....This is a Shakesperean tragedy we are watching unfold on CP24 every day...The ending will NOT be pretty..

Yes he is in denial, yes he doesnt see it..But lets show some compassion...Lets try to stop the public flogging and lynching and the constant harrassing..

IMO, you are entitled to yours.

Good post Serge. Completely different tone (IMO) than most of your posts on this topic. I usually read anger in your tone about everyone but Ford, and maybe I'm wrong, but for the first time, you seem to almost suggest he should take a break. Before, you kept saying things like keep fighting Rob, and so on.

Also, I dont know why you wrote so much, and yet so little about his tons of accomplishments. I noticed you mentioned his love of sports, and his football coaching. Is that what makes him a good mayor? Other then cutting off politicians perks (sounds like a sound bite from every politician), you didn't mention one concrete thing he has done. I honestly wonder if you guys know his good things. (I dont know them, I'm not saying they dont exist, I'm just trying to figure out why people like this guy?)

And don't say its because of other politicians. Yeah, we all know politicians lie and are crooks. Tell me why I should like this one.

I also don't think I attacked your "integrity", I think I attacked your opinion. But whatever.

I disagree with you guys, and I cant even begin to see how you see this man as a victim. We all have our faults, and we all do stupid things, no matter how old we are. But this man was elected mayor, he needs to conduct himself in a certain manner, and I cant excuse everything he has done because publicly some media outlet diagnosed him as an addict.

At what point is he an addict and at what point is he just a man who drinks a lot, makes bad decisions, and some involve drugs? I dont know, but I know Im not going to feel sorry for anything he is going through right now. It pales in comparison to most peoples troubles.

Ill stay out of this thread, cause frankly, I dont understand what the hell you guys are talking about.

I'm Not going to try and find one sentence but sine one said something about the media is like the paparazzi trying to dig up dirt that 80% is false.

When the media starts accusing him of stuff that isn't true then I'll say he is a victim but so far it seems they keep digging up the truth.

I read the article. If you meant the part about how "Rob Ford cares about the lady who's water was turned off, not the casino....."

Well, boy, do I have a story to tell you some day about the Ford brothers, and how much they "care". I just cant talk about it now, at all.

At the 2019 AHL draft, wait til Im on my 6th beer,(Im a lightweiight) and then get me talking. I might be in a position to spill by then.

Other than that, I read that people who do not live downtown hate those who do, and he has somehow managed to get in bed with them. Thats awesome, voting out of spite is always the way to go.

The beauty of politics is we both can have differing views on different subjects..I guess why I and others that think the way I do, agree with a lot of his politics..Saving taxes, cutting frilovous spending by city workers...Subway expansion, support of a casino in downtown Toronto(which is not going to happen)

I know you along with numerous others dont have sympathy for this man, but I am not sure if people will feel differently if he is found dead tomorrow ..

I respect everyones views on this topic...

When the media starts accusing him of stuff that isn't true then I'll say he is a victim but so far it seems they keep digging up the truth.

Here is an example of sensationalizing the issues at hand..

Ford was responding to a false(according to him) sentence that was released:

"It says I wanted to eat her pussy and I have never said that in my life to her. I would never do that. I’m happily married and I’ve got more than enough to eat at home,” he said before heading up to council."

He REPEATED what was reported...This was spun into , THE MAYOR USES VULGAR SEXUAL LANGUAGE...DISGUSTING LANGUAGE.Sure it wasnt approiate but come on..

They also accused this friend Alana of being a prostitute...It appears to be a 100 percent lie and fabrication...There are tons of these examples.

The same as i do now..He has a huge problem, and needs help...Like I said before I dont condone his behaviour..He needs help, and to change his behaviours...Because there is ONLY two endings to this tragedy..

DEATH or JAIL...

Your post is delivered with a tone that suggests I agree with the article. I was merely suggesting you read it because it talks about why some people like him.

I don't much care for politics so I rarely discuss it. I'm down for the beer-drinking though.

The cops saw him drinking and eating McDonald's and then driving away so why wouldn't they pull him over?

I really wasn't suggesting that, I don't really know/understand what you think on all this to be honest.

I was saying that if you like to further the discussion of what people think of him, I can discuss something, YEARS from now. lol. :)

Funny thing is, I don't think we are discussing politics. In fact, Fords political leanings dont matter to me at all. But that's just me. :)

I agree. This isn't a political discussion.

I don't know.

I'd really like to find out the answer to this.

If Ford had run over and killed someone that day things would've been very interesting.

If Denzil Minnan-Wong becomes mayor, all of you living in Toronto, should be really scared....REALLY scared...

I have heard he has the exact same politics as Ford, pushed for and voted in favour of all the things people like about Ford. (lower taxes, so on...)
