2013 Nhl Signings/trades

You could literally convince me to live and work anywhere if it was the difference between making 1.75 million this year or 8.5 million by 2016. $6.5 million is a LOT of money to turn your nose up at in favor of staying in Detroit, especially when you're probably signing your very last NHL contract for anything far above the league minimum.

The difference is only 6million if he never makes another dollar after this year.

Sometimes I feel bad for pro atheletes. Thats very rare, but this is one of those they cant win no matter what they do.

If you leave your team after 10 years to go somewhere else, everyone calls you a selfish prick with no loyalty who just wants more money then anyone needs.

But if you decide to stay, your being said to "turn your nose up" at millions of dollars. Dont compare what you and I would do with what he has decided.

We as fans dont know anything about his life, so who are we to judge what these guys decide to do. Of course you and I would live anywhere for like a fraction of that money, but this guy has already made 20 million dollars in his life, and maybe he would rather not leave where he is for another 3-6million. Does he really experience some kind of drastic lifestyle change going from 30million to 24-27 million in lifetime earnings? I think he'll be ok.

I dont care that much about team loyalty. I just love to see that some athelets dont put it all out there based on the mighty dollar.

So they sent him to Brodeur for mentoring on who not to sleep with?!

Waaaaa, you made fun of my team, now Im gonna cry.

New Jersey makes people homesick.

Maybe he sees value in staying in Detroit. They are one of those franchises that seems to look after their alumni well. Perhaps he's hoping to find an off-ice job in Detroit when he retires and sees this as a foot-in-the-door type thing. Then again, maybe he plans to retire to Newfoundland when he's done and $1.75M there is the same as $8.5M anywhere else.

What an unbelievable difference between the Cleary the last few years and the Cleary that was drafted by the Black Hawks. Someone had a good talk with him somewhere along the line. He's from a town about 20 minutes away from my hometown so I know plenty of people who know him. I've seen him in the pool hall once or twice. He used to be a cocky, "don't you know who I am" kind of kid. He grew up well.
