Pretty crazy for a video game that is “free” to play.

Some lighthearted talk here plus this will make sure that I can read this again sometime as it's a good story, at least for me. If it wasnt for posting all those apartment stories I would forget almos

I debated posting this, because I might be overdoing this topic this week, but I made a sort of personal promise to myself that I am going to promote more positivity and try to never be negative or pu

Danny.... Thats a great attitude to have, and you will be amazed at the progress Owen can make with that kind of attitude and persistence on your part. On Feb 4, 2003, the diagnosis I got was that

the free to play video game model is a lot like the casino business. Most of the money comes from a very small percentage of the customers many of whom have an "addiction" problem

I’ve played it a handful of times. Pretty fun but I am terrible. Definitely will never spend a penny on it.

Same. I dl it every once in awhile, play it a few times. Get bored. Delete it. Come back later. There are much better battle royal games out there imo.

It'll be popular for awhile and then the next fad will come around and people will call that game evil.

ill find the paper I just read on the science behind fortnight. Stuff like the music designed to keep you on task and focussed for longer. They tested it By playing it fir people doing ordinary tasks like office work and the subjects work longer and with more focus than with ordinary or no music.

This was bothering me so I downloaded it and played. Other than the menu and the part where you choose to get off the bus (30 seconds of music tops) there is no music. While in the game actually playing you only hear the environment. So uh....

H1z1.

More realistic and no building crap. Still working out bugs I think but I like it a little more than fortnite. I really dislike the building aspect of that game.

For PC I think PUBG is the best of them all.

With everything moderation is key. There is a lot of positives to the game. I started playing a bit and I play together with the kids. Adrian keeps in touch with his friends in Toronto and Vegas by playing together.

Every game can be addictive. This one is popular now and is so well done that people are getting addicted.

I feel like that is probably the defining characteristic that sets it apart from other similar games. The art direction is pretty unique as well but that is not really going to keep bringing people back to the game.

It seems to me that the building aspect makes it more of a skill game than some of the competitors. in a 1v1 situation, I have zero chance of killing a good player as he is erecting a fortress and I'm just spinning around and jumping and firing wildly or whatever. At least in CoD or other random shooters I can get lucky every once in awhile and land a head shot or sneak up on somebody or whatever. I suspect that is part of the reason it is so addictive. It is easy to hop on and play, but there is a really long, but fairly shallow learning curve to continually improve, and the "good" players can be insanely good at the game.

I don't even bother building lol. I came in 2nd twice yesterday simply because I'm standing out in the open and the last guy is building to the sky and then pooping his head out and sniping me lol.

I like the more military style BR game. Realistic guns with attachments and cars. I like cars more than building.

I think building would be fun if you got good at it but I'll realistically never log enough hours for that to happen, so I'm all for trying a different game with no building.

Not here for an argument. I personally enjoy video games. But there's plenty of info out there about Fortnite and the way it's eclipsing every record for video games by a fair margin. In my house, with my 13 year old, it almost cost him his honours graduation from grade 8. After being warned in school about playing games, he still got caught playing fortnite on his laptop in class. No other video game came remotely close to anything beyond 'current interest' with him until fortnite came out. The first article is the long paper on the build characteristics of these newest games.

I still play video games daily. Not as much as I'd like but once the kid is in bed my wife usually reads and I hop on my PS4 or Pc. Fortnite is pretty big. It's no different than League of Legends or CSGO though since those games have all had similar stories in their closet. Myself, I have over 1500 hours in CSGO.

I question why a 9 yr Old has access to the game and also why they have access to a credit card. My soon to be 8 yr old is not allowed to play Fortnite, period. He also has zero access to our credit cards. I'll be "that guy" and say that yes video games are addictive but there needs to be some blame on the parents because they seem to not know wtf their kids are doing some 5-6 hours a day.

Jin plays games. He doesn't play alone. One of us is always around when he plays. Sometimes we play together. I'm a strong advocate that gaming can be beneficial. The things he creates in minecraft are amazing. Imo it's no different than grabbing a piece of paper and crayons and drawing. Or getting a box of Legos and building something. It's just you do it on a tv. I do let him play Dark Souls which was frowned upon by my wife but over time it's actually had noticeable benefits. It's a very challenging game. It's violent in that you kill monsters of all types with swords. I turn blood off. If there was killing of humans it would have been a no go. Jin of the past would give up challenges pretty quick. He would have melt downs if he couldn't "master" something immediately. But his love of this game changed that. He would literally die 15 times to the same boss but keep on trying until he would beat it and the joy of doing so was enormous. It's now moved on to other parts of his life. He doesn't meltdown anymore. He keeps pushing/trying to get better or accomplish his goals. It was clear that the challenge was what he fixated on and not the stabbing, lol. So we let him play. He wants to play Fortnite. But using guns to kill others regardless of the cartoon graphics just doesn't sit well with us. There are for more suitable games he can play. Just wish I could get him into Madden, FIFA, and NHL lol.

I forgot my original point lol.

elem school kids take laptops to class now?

I didn’t even take one to my uni classes in 2015. (Though I was probably a minority.) Quick progression. Lol

I’ve never seen any at my kids school, though there’s probably a difference between a suburban NS school and a snooty Toronto one

Adrian applied and qualified for the lap top program in his middle school. It offers some higher level courses and requires higher GPA. He has been on it for 2 years. It’s great. Less paperwork. Things are easier to deal with.

Can you go into more detail on this, I’m very interested! What grade does the program start in? Does the school board provide the laptop? Is it at all public schools?

He started in Seventh grade. School is middle school so it’s 7th and 8th. In Sixth grade they had an application process and he applied and got chosen. School supplies laptops. Not all schools have them but few in the district do.

She said 2 weeks now. I than said it takes that long to fix the air conditioning? She than said it’s was not broken. It was stolen. The thiefs took a whole bunch one night.

With the almost certainty that Tiger will be a Captain's pick for the Ryder Cup, the following really shocked me.

Last time Tiger Woods won a Ryder Cup was in 1999.
