Ottawa_Biatch 288
Looking through Bob's link it looks like CromeOS has grown to have more stuff runable in 'offline' mode so you aren't entirely crippled w/o web but still limted. The FCHL chat should be good to go as that was a IRC client within a web page. Thanks. With google docs, can you update excel sheets and things like that with formulas? Or is it just for viewing? Ottawa_Biatch 288
What's an amd Chip?
iBeaver 409
There's nothing wrong with AMD chips. Especially for what you want to do. Intel are more expensive. Just get a chrome book. Cheap lightweight and will handle what you need. Google docs is essentially excel so you can do formulas and all that jazz.

I use to make fun of a couple of guys who work at AMD (played hockey with them). They kept telling me that there is nothing wrong with the chips.

iBeaver 409
My gaming PC has an AMD CPU and an AMD gpu. Never had an issue. Have had a AMD laptop (toshiba) with zero issues in the 4-5 yrs I used it for general computing. My two intel laptops weren't as lucky. Well one failed after 3 months, the other was fine. Simple truth is AMD is better at some things and intel at others. Gaming wise intel wins but at a hefty price. AMD can do gaming but they are a bit behind performance wise in the CPU department. When using applications that require many cores AMD shines. Also the best apu (CPU with graphics on the CPU) AMD has the best by far. For someone looking to browse internet and do simple computing there's no reason to overspend on an intel. You can find cheap intel i3 laptops/net books and that's fine but if it's between a $390 AMD vs $400 intel just but the AMD. This isn't 1980 or whenever when AMD was a joke. Fenxis 99
This isn't 1980 or whenever when AMD was a joke. True but my understanding is that AMD started to kick Intel's ass... and forced the later to step up their game. AMD isn't doing as hot these days but if they support the same instruction set who cares? I'd be wary about cheapening out on laptops as some companies knowingly had issues/high failure rates for years on low end stuff (ie: I had a $700 Dell that died at 13 months, no issue with a HP ~$1600 work one for three years). But I have heard (at least in the past) that Toshiba has best consumer grade stuff.

I think I'm goin to get it tmw That's exactly how I ended up with a shitty bike. Wanted it ASAP and it was $220 and in stock. LOL. A month later, and like 4 or 5 times bringing in for (free) repairs, I finally got a replacement.

Ottawa_Biatch 288
Just picked up my chrome book from best buy. It retails online at $259, regular price $299. My friend works there and she got it for me at cost, which is a little cheaper but not much, $179. Just waiting now at a restaurant to pick up dinner, I'll try it later tonight. Since nobody cares, I'll draw a google map of how I used my chrome book, what snacks I ate during it's use, and how far I travelled.
