BigDMcGee 3,355
I can't take it anymore, is anyone else watching this insane show? I've never been so confused by a show, the sheer genius of how bad it is, like... it's spectacular to watch. I heard Louis CK talk about Sorkin's Studio 60( I think it was called) and how much he loved hating that show. And I think I understand what he's saying. But I don't hate Newsroom, I think it's fascinating. It's such a ridiculous, wonderful show. The flipping Rudy ending of tonights show though. Man, I think it might have broken my mind, I can't believe Sorkin had the audacity to do that. If any of you kids are into Post Irony, get on board with this show.
Mercury69 3
It's a real bag of...well, Sorkinisms. If this show Sorkin could get over itself and write some plots and dialogue that doesn't shove a Self-Righteous Anger stick up your ass, I'd probably be more on board. It's kind of like watching someone vomit onto a Jackson Pollock painting, but is easier to figure out where the vomit stops and the paint begins. Flagrantly over-emotinalised characters and lengthy set-ups to "big moments" that somehow refuse to reach the intended apex.If I never see another "walk and talk" show, it will be too soon for me.BigD, I apologise for agreeing with you, but this show is almost as over the top as True Blood. HBO, what the **** is wrong with you? Bring back Treme immediately.

Ron_Mexico 4,219
I like it. I like the over-written nature and snappy dialogue, I like the politics behind it and I think Jeff Daniels and Sam Waterston are doing great jobs. I'm a simple man that likes lollipops up my ass and chewing gum. Sue me. The show entertains me. I'm not looking for mountains to move when I watch movies and tv, I just want to enjoy it and I do. I get why people don't like it. The dialogue can be silly and cringe worthy and spots but overall, it's alright. And I likes Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. And the Social Network, and Malice, and A Few Good Men. Didn't like the one or two eps of Sports Night I watched because I was a Keith and Dan, Big Show snob and hated the hacky take off of it. I didn't get that probably wasn't about sports at all. Never watched The West Wing. These are my Sorkredentials.
LongLiveYorke 38
I mean, the real problem with the show is that the plot is really, really uninteresting. Can anyone really even articulate what is it? The one girl likes that one guy, but they don't do anything about it. The owner of the network is vaguely angry at Jeff Daniels. But no one really seems to care that much. So, instead, everything is filled in with an awkward game of t-ball where the writers setup the most obvious situation and then the characters swoop in and explain how they're right about everything. So, no plot really and lazy writing. That's somewhat bad.But the real issues is that the characters are really bad. Can anyone describe a character (especially a female character) with an adjective other than "annoying"? The West Wing was overflowing with characters, and that's why it worked. It could get away with being super sappy because you were empathetic to Tobey or Sam or Josh. It's not even Post Ironic. It's Current-Earnest. But not the Wes Anderson Earnest that's awesome. ajs510 122
I was completely fascinated by the first 10 minutes of the pilot episode, and then the show kinda lost my interest in the middle of the pilot and I haven't gone back yet.The West Wing is my single favorite show of all time, just brilliant writing and acting. I kind of got bored with it in the last season though, so it's good that it ended where it did IMO.
BigDMcGee 3,355
EP1S2 was FAR better writing that last season, but not good writing. Newsroom has achieved.. mediocrity. I'm so pissed off. When it was spectacularly bad, it was worth watching.. but.. if it's just going to be banal...
SuitedAces21 2,723
i watch, but i dont know why.
NickCave 194
EP1S2 was FAR better writing that last season, but not good writing. Newsroom has achieved.. mediocrity. I'm so pissed off. When it was spectacularly bad, it was worth watching.. but.. if it's just going to be banal... Some of the stuff last year was just so... I don't even have the words. The whole Don Quixote thing from the finale was among the most embarrassing moments of television I've ever seen. I was staring at my television, in slackjawed awe, wondering how Aaron Sorkin could feel any emotions about his writing other than total shame. So much of the show was so mawkish. We get it Aaron Sorkin. YOU ARE DISAPPOINTED IN LITERALLY EVERYONE AND UNCOMPROMISINGLY IDEALISTIC. Season Two's premiere was the best episode of the show so far, but the Occupy storyline is going to be painful. What can Sorkin say about the movement in retrospect that wasn't being said in real time?
BigDMcGee 3,355
yeah, it was the best episode of the show so far, but I don't WANT good episodes. I want more moments like that god damn Rudy episdoe. I MEAN, HE ****ING RECREATED RUDY. I was slack jawed. I didn't know how to react. It might have been bad, but it was god damn spectacular. This is just a snooze fest, if it stays like this, I'm out. Last season was gloriously terrible.
YonYonson 156
I quit watching a few weeks back. I couldn't make it through an episode and I said goodbye forever.
BigDMcGee 3,355
I don't blame you, it's picked up a bit, but I really feel like what made this show awesome/awful/compelling has been lost
NickCave 194
The most recent episode was the best episode of the show yet. The previous, I dunno, three or four, were the worst. Just...abominable television. I'm not sure what you're talking about BigD. What made this show embarrassing has absolutely not been lost. AaronSorkin'sBrain is still operating with at least 95% retard strength. He's writing lines that professional hobo clowns couldn't say without bitching at their agents first. Ron_Mexico 4,219
Do you haters hate all of his work or just this show?
frautotenkinder 1,025
New Sincerity is what I should have used there, though. I posit the term should be, "Sorkulent." The male characters are puffed up in their Sorkulence, and the female characters love them for it.
BigDMcGee 3,355
Do you haters hate all of his work or just this show? I watched exactly Zero minutes of west wing. I didn't watch his Sketch comedy dramady show Studio 60 or w/e it was called, with Mathew Perry. Louis CK loved to hate it, that's all I know about it. I did watch Sports night back in the day, and liked it, but i honestly don't remember it well. I don't think I've seen one of his movies I've disliked.
Ron_Mexico 4,219
I don't think I've seen one of his movies I've disliked. I don't think this makes sense, unless you're going third level on me
frautotenkinder 1,025
Can someone who's opinion I give a shit about chime in, please. Hi. I have access to a HBO Go account right now. I think it's going to be pulled, so I don't want to get attached to a show I can't finished. That's how bad this show is--I'm making excuses for drinking my cheap wine, doing laundry, and watching it. I'm three episodes in to the second season, and I'm having active fantasies about what shitty, snide things I could say to Aaron Sorkin if I ever bump into him. It's a good hatewatch, though. BigDMcGee 3,355
IT's a fabulous hate watch. Season two was disappointing though, it wasn't nearly as hateable. That Rudy scene season 1 was just amazing
Iphonenkinder 558
Nice try, I'm not going to watch season 1. After these 9 episodes, I'm going to watch Veep.
