Ventrick 0
I'd have to say Super System, despite being dated has had the greatest effect on my game. I picked up Tournament Poker for Advanced players recently after I kept getting burned in tourneys soon after making the money and it has already pointed out many glaring errors in my tournament strategy. I can't wait to put the new knowledge to use and see how much of an effect it has.
torch 0
I will ditto shydie remarks - While SS and WLLH were the first books I read, I didn't really understand poker until I read Internet Texas Hold'em by Matt Hilger. For those of you remember the WSOP broadcasts, he's the guy who "only plays aces."It has some great detail, a lot of the why, in how plays should be made. The hand examples shown make great points, and the "correct" plays are backed with good reasoning. There's a wealth of support and knowledge also found in the following the book has garnered. rkard 0
SuperSystem and Sklansky's books are essential reads. Putting yourself at disadvantage if you don't read them. I haven't read Supersystem2 but i'm pretty sure it'll be ranked as an essential read as well. The less people who have read and comprehended these books the better...
WillinNewHaven 0
I know I know, there are a lot of these type of threads going around, but I enjoy them immensely. The book that helped me the most was Zen and the Art of Poker, written by Larry W. Phillips. It talks about how to stay calm and even-keel in even the most difficult situations. It also encourages super-tight play and patience. I am not particularly fond of super-tight play, but the other lessons learned in this book were priceless. However, if you are looking for a book to teach you the concepts of the game, this certaintly isn't the one for you. This book is more about controlling ones emotions and how to stop yourself from going on tilt. The book that helped me most in NL play and in tournaments was Super System No second choice. The books that helped me most in limit play were several of Caro's books over the years and Gary Carson's Complete Book of Holdem PokerThe book that helped me survive as a poker player and a person is Killer Poker by John (or is it Jon?) WillinNewHaven 0
middle limit holdem has helped my play the most. If Theory of Poker or HFAP is a university lecture then middle limit holdem is the practical lab or tutorial that accompaines the lecture. If you play 10-20 or higher you need to read this book.JonYou need to read MLHE for moderately tight, someone competent games. You can find those games at many limits but you have to be ready to adjust if the game is not what you expect at that limit. MLHE was written by Ciaffone and anothe author. I cannot remember who it was but it would be easier to find a book if you knew the author.Ciaffone also co-authored, with Reuben, a book on big-bet poker that is awesome and should be required reading unless you are going to play against ME.
