Have any of you seen the Bodog updates? Players are now anonymous, they only have a random or seat number assigned to them so you have no idea who you are playing. Everything else seems like an improvement but this is just ridiculous. I was actually thinking of putting some money on there in a couple of weeks, oh well!

Initially not particularly a fan of the idea and it opens up a host of potential problems, but time will tell.Tip: Don't turn off animation. There's a bug that makes it unplayable if you do.

It's an interesting move.Bodog basically doesn't want winning professional players. Considering that they're mostly a Sportsbook and Casino as opposed to a poker site this makes perfect sense. In poker the player who rakes the most is not the most valuable player to a network or stand alone site. Depositing recreational players are the valuable ones.I don't know if anonymous tables are the way to go however.http://calvinayre.com/2011/12/01/poker/jon...oftware-update/

We have decided to introduce Anonymous Tables across all tables, both cash game and tournament tables. This is perfectly in line with Bodog Recreational Poker Model, our strategy of focusing on net depositing players. The anonymity will protect them by creating a more level playing field. This will mean that net depositing players get more entertainment for their money which will increase player retention. Player tracker tools and HUD’s are net depositing players’ biggest enemy, and we are now effectively stopping these from ever working on our software again. We will lose some users of these tools but that is only going to create a better environment for the net depositing players who are actually the ones generating the revenue through their deposits. In the poker forums (winning) players are furious which I can understand—like most predators they are not the best suited to look after an eco-system.

So Bodog is still active for US players? I havn't been on here in a few months and was interested because a coworker said he plays poker on there, although he uses the site mostly for sports betting.

I see his point about protecting the fish, errr I mean net depositing players but I think they missed a big issue and that's that most recreational players love to have cute usernames and cute avatars. They also love to play against big name players, be they pro or just popular online players. Look at how fast a table will fill up if Daniel sits down at a low stakes game. These guys are perfectly aware that Daniel can out play them but they love being able to say they played with him. If they're lucky enough to get to a table with a pro in an MTT and get even luckier to knock that pro out it makes their whole year. Think about it, who does the most chatting at the tables? It's not the winning players it's the recreational players. They're the ones who are also saying "hi shyt4brains, you been winning lately" when they sit down with someone they've played a lot. This change totally removes all the social aspect from the online game and it's that aspect that recreational players like the most. Recreational players also have a fear of the unknown and are already suspicious of playing against a "computer" in the first place so this anonymity will only increase those fears. As many has mention on 2p2 and P5s this seems to make it much easier for collusion and bots to run rampant. I think Bodog's primary goal is to rid themselves of pesky winning players and I imagine they'll succeed but the fish will leave too. Big mistake imo!

Some of the users in the 2+2 thread (several hundred posts in the span of days) have suggested that they implement "random" names/avatars when someone sits down at a table. The player would be anonymous, but they'd at least have more than just a number associated with them for their duration at the table. It would also be helpful to stop ratholing.

Yeah, that's not good news. Here's the original blog post about it...http://www.hhsmithy.com/blog/bodogs-all-an...ough-obscurity/
I'm continually amazed that they're aren't grown-ups in these jobs. That's just stupid to send the secret data to the client.

is it easy to fix this? or would it require a full software overhaul etc.?

Probably not the easiest fix from what I'm reading...and hard to trust the programming ability over there at this point.I'd guess that a temporary step they could take would be to disable logging in with account numbers (and require e-mail/username instead). That wouldn't be a long-term solution, but it would stop account numbers from being abused.

I hate this change, and the new software in general (lot of bugs). But i've also made a quick easy $300 in 2 sessions at .50-1 so, maybe I like it? The players on bodog still seem just as bad!

Based on 2+2, they were having server issues last night. Seems to be fine now.

tried creating an account with Carbon. will not let me do this. Tells me that my state (Missouri) is the issue.
