Dubey 1,035
Dave, would you have taken Charles instead of Ray Rice?it's a toss up. I probably would have taken Rice because I have Charles in another pool. Rice at #5 is a huge steal for you too though.I think the clear cut top 4 are AP/Johnson/Rice/Charles. Foster would be there but I wouldn't use a top 4 pick on him because of the ham string issue. Any one of those guys would be a fine pick at first overall, so at #5, great value. Babying 613
I like Romo this year a lot too. I do believe he has the team to make a #3 QB spot happen.Dave, would you have taken Charles instead of Ray Rice?Im unhappy my #2 RB is Jahvid Best. I should have done better there.I absolutely love my WR's (CJohnson, MWallace)Need a big year from Stafford, and need Beanie Wells to be as good as I think he can.the one thing I hate about football fantasy, it still usually comes down to injuries.I was sitting next to a guy at the draft who had Peyton Manning. He was trying to get as much info as possible and all we had was out of game #1. I then told him, you can blame me for his problems. My son got his auto.During the draft he took Stafford (who I love). I then turn to him and said "why did you do that? My son got his auto too. You are doomed".Mine you those are the only 2 NFL QB autos he has.I would have taken Charles instead of Rice since I think they have taken the gloves off of Joe Flacco. Dubey 1,035
1. (10) Andre Johnson I guess this pick all depends on how much you like Shonn Greene, I'm going to analyze this based on how I rank the players. I don't like Johnson here, because of the RB options that dropped so far. With Rodgers, VIck and Rivers (!!!) all going in the first round ahead of you, you had top flight RBs like Mendenhall, Mccoy, and Turner fall into your lap. Don't get me wrong, Johnson is a great player, and value wise, at #10, it's not bad. The way I see it, there is a pretty big drop off from Turner/Mccoy to the next best RB. With WRs, there are 4 guys who I consider to be 'tier 1' and pretty close in value (Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, and Roddy white). You can definitely get one of them with your next pick, but if you pass on one of the 3 remaining top RBs here, they will almost certainly be gone by the time you pick again. With that said, if you valued Shonn Greene higher than any of the remaining RBs, and you really wanted AJ, then it makes sense to grab him here, I just don't agree with it.Think of it this way, which combo would you rather have? Rashard Mendenhall and Larry Fitzgerald, or Andre Johnson and Shonn Greene?2. (15) Shonn Greene Obviously, you value Shonn Greene higher than most this year. I might be jaded since I used a 2nd round pick on him last year and he pretty much cost me that pool. I like some of the other options a lot more in this spot, like MJD, Gore, or even Peyton Hillis. With that said, he is one of the guys who has the potential to way outperform his draft position this season. Its a high risk, high reward pick.3. (34) Felix Jones Speaking of high risk, high reward, hehe. Your running backs are going to make you or break you this year. greene/jones is a really risky combo. I do really like this pick though. I think he is going to have a good year. 4. (39) Matt Schaub I'm a big Schaub fan. You probably took him a little early, but he wasn't going to get back to your next pick, so I don't have a problem with it at all. Even last year, which wasn't his best, he still ended up as a top 10 fantasy QB. In 2009, his passing totals were ridiculous, and I like him to be closer to those totals this year. Having Schaub and Johnson could single handedly win you a few weeks. 5. (58) Ryan Mathewsgreat pick, but holy cow, you are all over the boom/bust running backs this year. Who knows how Mathews is going to perform this year. Tolbert will probably get more goal line carries, but I like his chances to have a good year. 6. (63) Santonio Holmes (NYJ - WR) Good pick. You needed a WR2, and he will do just fine for you.7. (82) Pittsburgh (Pit - DEF) I personally don't like taking a defensive team this high, but value wise, it's about right. Green bay was already off the board, so if you wanted to make sure you got a top 2 defense, then this pick is ok.The rest looks good. I like the Thomas, hernandez and Ford picks. Babying 613
I love your analysis. The reason I took Andre Johnson over Larry Fitzgerald, Matt Schaub. Kevin Kolb has not proven it to me.Totally agree Greene/Jones are high risk high reward.Big fan of Schaub (also Sam Bradford and Matthew Stafford). Took him because I love to double up on points.I could not believe Ryan Mathews was still availiable. Last year he was a 2nd rounder for sure.Holmes is not missing the 1st 4 games like last year. He is more comfortable with Sanchez which should equal more TDs. Plus there are other weapons beside Holmes so there should be more one on one coverage. The reason I took Pitt D, they are like money every year. Always an attacking Defense. Dubey 1,035
I'm going to do Arp's team next, since this is fun, even though he didn't ask. Plus I like his team a lot. I have some work to do first though, I'll be back in a bit.
MapleLeafs 142
You can do mine if you like even though it sucks. My first 2 picks were solid, but going with Peyton (Manning, not Hillis) will probably kill me.
Dubey 1,035
1. (5) Ray Rice Already talked about this one, but you can thank JP#3 for gifting this one to you by picking rodger at #3. Huge steal for you. Great pick, obviously.2. (20) Calvin Johnson Another great pick. This is the perfect spot to be taking a WR in the 2nd round. all of the top RBs are off the board, and Johnson was the last of the tier 1 WRs. You got Rice and Johnson at really good values. 3. (29) Mike Wallace Good pick but I probably would have gone with a RB here. I would have taken Blount (this is a recording). Wallace is a good pick though, and I do like the RBs you were able to grab later on. If you were st on a WR here, you couldn't have done any better than Wallace. It does give you a really solid 1/2 punch for WRs. 4. (44) Jahvid Best Good pick. I like Best a lot. He was one of the better fantasy running backs last year before he got injured, and the injury is hurting his draft average this year. I feel like he would be going in the second round if he had played the whole season last year, and has a chance to perform like a second rounder this year if all goes well.5. (53) Beanie Wells Another great pick. Really high upside this year for this guy. Any time you can grab a starting RB with some upside in the 5th round or later, you have to be happy with it. He is going to get a lot of touches this year, and he is another guy who could really outperform his draft position. With Rice as the sure thing, I like your 3 RBs, as you could afford to gamble a bit on #2 and #3, and I like both of these gambles, a lot. 6. (68) Percy Harvin Pretty Standard, good pick. Lots of comparable WRs on the board at this point, and you can't really argue with harvin in this spot.7. (77) Matthew Stafford Have I mentioned that I really like your draft? I think you picked the right guys at the right times. The 7th round is the perfect time to grab a QB this year, I think Stafford will be a serviceable QB for you this year, and that's all you really need, given how good the rest of your team is. You, like Wayne, doubled up with Johnson and Stafford. Your team will be less reliant on this combo though, as oyu have plenty of other strong guys to pick up the slack when Detroit's offense has a bad week.8. (92) Jimmy Graham (NO - TE) Good time to grab a TE. I have Jimmy in 2 of my pools, and I think he is going to have a good year. A lot of good TEs available in the later rounds in this draft, I'd put Graham in the top 5 this year.
MapleLeafpoker 1,462
thanks for doing it, and thanks for being so kind. I hope your right, I used to really enjoy fantasy football, it would be fun to be competitive in a football pool again.some thoughts: I really like looking at a draft in "tiers". When I took Calvin Johnson, I recall all the top WR's except him being gone, and thinking of the next set of RB's, there were a few that one of them might come back to me. This kind of thing usually worked for me in this draft, but a few times it didnt. (Starks/Thomas really comes to mind!!!)And I agree with Dave, grab the RB's, grab a top WR if you can, and wait on QB's. If I wasnt getting Vick/Rodgers in rnd 2, that was my plan.I had Best last year. When he got healthy, he was really really good. Im worried Det wont give him the ball as much as I wish they would, but Ill take a risk.I like Beanie. But here's a clue as to how little I really know about football....was reading a site last night, and they had some guy named Chris Wells as the Ariz RB who would get the most carries this week. I panicked. Didn't realize Beanie's first name is Chris. Fail. Not sure I love Wallace on Pitt. I usually love to grab the WR on teams that get killed. But this guy has great talent, and I didnt see a RB I had to have there.I loved my draft until about the 9th/10th round. After that, I missed out on a lot of players. My knowledge is not like the rest of you, but I had fun.I had S.Green of NYJ last year. Man did he F me over. Like Dave, I wasted a high pick on him, and watched LT be reborn.I wasn't gonna take him.
Babying 613
LT will not be reborn. Shonn Greene will be the #1 back.Matthew Stafford in the 7th round. Very nice.
Dubey 1,035
1. (11) Rashard Mendenhall great value pick here.. he is a beast and he has a really easy playoff schedule if you get there. I've seen him go top 5, and he should have gone earlier in this one, if not for all the QBs that went in the first round.2. (14) Peyton Hillis Probably a little higher than I would have drafted Hillis, but if he has a season anything like last year, it will actually be a good value pick. He probably wasn't going to last until your next pick, so if you were high on him, it was here or never. Regardless, Mendy/Hillis is a pretty sold RB1/RB2 combo.3. (35) Peyton Manning Yeah, with the information available at the draft, this is a bad pick. With what we know now, it's pretty disastrous, but I won't dwell on it or rub the salt in your wounds any more than I already have.4. (38) Mario Manningham Good grab. It's probably a bit of a reach, but he has huge breakout potential, and he wasn't going to drop to your next pick. This guy won me some games last year in a few pools. 5. (59) Austin Collie again, this is a fine pick. This is the section of the draft where a lot of similar WRs are going off the board, and Collie is an acceptable pick in this spot.6. (62) Mike Tolbert Good pick. Worst case, Ryan Mathews stays healthy and has a good year, and Tolbert still gets most of the goal line carries for the chargers. If Mathews struggles or gets injured, TOlbert has the potential to reap you huge benefits, especially where he was drafted.7. (83) Sidney Rice See pick 5. 8. (86) A.J. Green Perfect time to start gambling on rookies. Green is a boom or bust pick, but worth the gamble at this stage of the draft.9. 11. (131) Marcedes Lewis Good job waiting on a tight end. Lewis should have a strong year.14. (158) Deji Karim Matt, disregard my advice to pick up Karim on waivers. If MJD goes down, this may be the best value pick in the whole draft... or he could be on waivers in a few weeks. Either way, worth the gamble in the 14th round.15. (179) Garrett Hartley Haven't checked, you probably already replaced him, but he is injured and will miss the first few weeks.Your draft was similar to mine: RB/RB/QB/WR/WR. THings would look a whole lot rosier for you without the manning incident. As it stands now, you'll need to hope for some magic from Newton or Sanchez,
MapleLeafs 142
Thanks a lot for that insight Dave. I did make the cardinal sin in fantasy - I picked with my heart and not with my head by grabbing Peyton Manning. The Colts are my team and he is my favourite player. I knew when I picked him that he was an extremely risky pick, but I had hoped to grab a suitable backup later on. I missed out on Matthew Stafford and Sam Bradford in the rounds they went in. I've attempted to trade for Bradford but it's resulted in JP#2 sending me 3 for 1 offers for Peyton Hillis. As for Hartley, I had lost my connection right when it was my turn so Yahoo automatically picked him for me. I wound up picking Alex Henery a couple rounds later and dropped Hartley immediately after the draft.
