GOCUBSGO 77
So I'm taking my girlfriend to Vegas for our 3 year anniversary sometime towards the end of September. We are planning on staying for about 3-4 days. I have been to Vegas a couple times, but it was a long long time ago, and I was only there for a few days. I've read a lot of reviews, but was hoping to get some advice and opinions. Since my preferences are pretty specific and Vegas is constantly changing, I didn't want to go through the other million threads looking for advice.1. Where should we stay? (We want something relatively inexpensive, but we obviously want it to be as nice as possible. We both want to spend a lot of time lounging at the pool, so preferably someplace with a great pool scene.) 2. Where should we eat? (Another big factor is we both enjoy trying new restaurants/cuisine. Looking for great food at reasonable pricing ~$20-40 per entree. Also extensive wine selections are a huge plus)3. What should we go see? (I know there are tons of regular shows out there, but our budget is limited so nothing too expensive. We plan on walking around and doing all the usual sightseeing, etc, but is there anything first time vegas tourists absolutely HAVE TO do while there?)4. Gambling? (We actually won't be spending all that much time gambling, but we will probably play some low limit slots, blackjack, and possibly poker for me if time allows. Ideally, this would be wherever we are staying.)5. Lastly, once we are ready to book airlines/hotel, what's the best way to go? (Expedia, Priceline, etc?)Thanks in advance! Suited_Up 2
1. I enjoyed the Planet Hollywood pool when I stayed there 2 times ago. But there's a ton of good pools. I often stay at the IP though, and if you're in for a pool scene, I'll stay away from suggesting that place for once. 2. There's so many places to eat, so I don't even want to get into narrowing it down. But one place you should definitely go is Firefly on Paradise. http://www.fireflylv.com/index.html Great tapas place, with awesome mojito and/or sangria pitchers. My fav tapas place ever.3. Have seen almost no shows. I keep meaning to check some out but never get around to it. If you do, check out http://www.tix4tonight.com/ They have booths at a few places on the strip. Oshea's and Bill's are most central. But there's a bunch.5. Do you have a Total Rewards card from Harrah's? That's usually the best way to get deals on rooms with that group of casinos. Go to the TR site and check rates with your TR number put in. (Combine with gf's if she has one for extra bonus)Those rates are always lower for me than searching the other supposed discount sites. rcgs59 15
I agree suited with the Harrah's trip reward card works great for discounts and free rooms. Any of the cirque du soleil shows are worth it.Paris is nice, also has a nice pool. also check out the restaurant thread in general off topics
r0llin_game 2
Cosmo pool I believe is open to the public. If you want to have a fun time at a show and have a chance to actually win some prizes, The Price Is Right was really fun and entertaining. My gf and I got tickets at the place Kurt posted above and they were ~$40 each.
king_tanner 84
hard rock has the best pool scene ainecIf you are just looking to lounge around basically any pool works though. I've stayed at the Flamingo which is relatively cheap and I enjoyed both the room and the pools. Not sure how cheap you are talking about when you say relatively cheap though. food: you are going to have to narrow it down to what you want to eat. If not, you are going to get like a 1,000 suggestions and you will take too long to choose, then when you finally pick a place, then you won't get in because of reservations etc.gambling: If you're not going to gamble that much I'm not sure what to recommend. Everywhere in Vegas has slots and blackjack. I like the $5 blackjack tables at MGM, especially if you are trying to get a lot of drinks quickly. In fact I love that side of the strip (MGM/Mandalay Bay) for pretty much everything... staying there might be expensive though. For poker, it depends on what you are looking for. If you want to play 1/2 NL, almost everywhere has it. I like the bigger poker rooms because of the general atmosphere, so Venetian is the best for poker imo. Bellagio will have a lot of people but it can get cramped and depending on when you go there could be a list. Everyone has been raving about Aria... I've never been there. I do love to play 1/2 at O'sheas though. It is probably a 100% tourist table and they are usually all drunk, and the table is right next to the sidewalk to it is great for people watching, just a fun game.shows: yeah cirque soleil. I loved "Love" and "Ka"

GOCUBSGO 77
Thanks a lot guys, I appreciate it.Unfortunately I do not have a Harrah's Rewards Card, but it sounds like something I need to eventually get.We do plan on doing some gambling, I just don't think we will spend all that much time doing it. Since it will be my gf's first time, combined with the fact that she really only plays slots, leads me to believe we will be doing a lot more pool/bar activities and walking around. As far as the restaurants go, I will definitely check out Firefly and look at that other restaurant thread. I don't need full reviews on 50 different restaurants, just wanna hear if anyone had an awesome dining experience.I plan on writing up a full trip report when I get back, so thanks again for the advice. Same for the WYnn, Mandalay Bay (kinda tropical, kinda spring breaky), Hard Rock (full blown spring break scene )Best hotels are Wynn, Bellagio, Palazzo, Aria, and Trump for non casino property.all just my humble opinion obv. Fluffdog87 2
Beatles Love show is fantastic! David Copperfield show is amazing as well.Cosmopolitan Pool is awesome. Noodles at Bellagio is a fun and not overly expensive place to eat at that I enjoy a lot. Enjoy your trip!
Canary3 1
I really enjoy the show Absinthe. I would highly recommend the Caesars All Stage Pass. it's $99 and gives you 48 hours to see as many shows as you wish. There are 20 different shows to choose from. Absinthe is one of them! TheBadge 0
Thanks guys, I'll definitely check everything out. Huge help!I go to Vegas with the GF at least once a year. I find Expedia consistently has the best deals overall cause they'll hav their owns specials now and then.If you want quality hotel in good location, and don't NEED to stay at Belagio, Treasure Island is a great option and is always really cheap. Easily the best deal for quality of the rooms. Casino is a little meh (compared to those all around it) but you're right in the middle of Mirage, Belagio, Venetian and just up from Aria or Wynn the other way, and Fashion Show Mall right next door (GF will love that). Mirage is even better, usually a bit more money, but far better casino so you'll play there too. TI you'll likely just sleep at. Location is everything. Tix4tonight the other guy mentioned is a MUST. There's a booth at the Fashion Show Mall - red sign, can't miss it. IMO Best Cirque show they offer is Ka. Blows most of the others away. Ticket prices here are usually less than half what you'd pay at box office or on Hotel website. Smaller shows/exhibits - check out this at NYNY http://www.newyorknewyork.com/attractions/3for54.aspx$54 and you pick from 3 shows to see. Some of the shows are regularily over $30 on their own. Ex "Bodies", Titanic, and CSI experience. Great deal if you want to do a lot of different things ($54 per person)Bodies takes a couple hours to go through but is COOL as long as you are not easily grossed out. Titanic exhibit was surprisingly interesting, but again, you're burning half your afternoon here.Restaurants - AVOID Mon Ami Gabi at Paris for dinner. Breakfast might be fine, but dinner was terrible and not worth the price (and it isn't pricey, just bad). So many other great restaurants, really disappointing when you pick a bad one. Too ad causet heir patio is right on the strip and good for people watching, but food just sucked.Money saving tip - McDonalds for breakfast - Bacon and eggs is unhealthy everywhere, might as well get it for $3. If you are going to splurge for one great Anniversary dinner, Emeral's at MGM is incredible. It's an expensive meal for sure but not ridiculous ($150-$200 for both) but worth every penny.hope this was helpful

(Expedia, Priceline, etc?)Thanks in advance! Some personal faves/hints, based on your desires but trying to have fun on a budget.Where: MGM can be found cheap. Look straight on their site, sign up for the emails, and youll get good offers from them. Lots to choose from when you stay there, in terms of gambling+food. Signing up for the sites email offers is sometimes your best bets to get deals. For Sept, youll get great offers, esp if its not a busy weekend.Food: I recommend Simon at Palms. Check Travelzoo, they sometimes have this great offer of $100 for 2 people, you get a great dinner for 2, with a couple of drinks, and VIP access to all the lounges and clubs upstairs. Going up to the top of Palms for the lounges is great, spec view and very nice for a couple. I found Simon to have great food, and that deal was a steal.Gambling: Go downtown. Cheap, fun, pure old school Vegas.
