I'm not sure where this post should go, so I apologize in advance if it's in the wrong place.I've decided I'm going to book a room in Vegas for a bit and focus solely on playing cards, my bankroll isn't huge and I want to start off playing some $1-2NL ideally. I basically have two questions: What's a decent cheap place to stay, close to some at least decent games. Right now, it's looking like the Imperial Palace hotel is my best bet for strictly a cheap room in the middle of everything. I just want to make sure I'm close to decent games, as I'll be walking mostly or using a cab.Where are the good low limit games? (max buy-in not too big, rake not too bad, competition not strictly grinding pros, etc.) Like I said, I'm looking to start grinding a $1-2 NL game until I get a feel for the city and what direction my bankroll is heading. Thanks in advance for any help!

Best 1-2 games are at Bellagio and MGM. Aria has a decent 1-3 game and a great room. Flamingo runs some lol games as well, but not many. Veneitian has tons of 1-2 but can be local/reg laden. South Point south of the strip has easy 1-2 games but it's a drive.Bills Gamblin Hall is a far better cheapy choice than IP. IP needs to be burned to the ground. Hooters is another possibility and is close to MGM and a short walk to Aria/Bellagio. Tropicana has remodeled many of their rooms and might offer decent rates. Excaliber can run some deals but should be leveled right after IP.gl.

I had friends stay at the IP last month, one of them was in a suite that featured cigarette burns on the comforter. Avoid. Scott is right, they should level the place. If you're planning on staying a while (weeks to indefinitely), look into a month-to-month apartment rather than a fleabag hotel room, it will be cheaper and nicer. Even if you somehow get a room for 7 nights a week at $19 a night (you won't) that's still almost $600 a month before you even start trying to take all your meals on the Strip. You can get a furnished studio apartment with a full kitchen at Holiday Royale for $235-255 a week and that's only a couple blocks from the Strip. http://www.holidayroyale.com/Get an apartment, buy a bike, you and your bankroll will be happier in the long run.

I haven't been to vegas for a couple years, but we always stayed at IP. Sleep on top of the beds for 45 minutes with your clothes on, shower and get moving again. The price/location ratio of the IP was always perfect. And the IP games always could be LOLworthy.

Luckily I have a bike I can ship out cheaply so as long as I'm PRETTY close to the games, I shouldn't be sweating transportation. I think I'm going to go with the Holiday Royale apts., since I normally sleep a little more than 45 mins. at a time and it seems like a great value. Also, from what I gather, they'll be burning IP to the ground soon, too. Thanks again for the insight everyone!

Basically walk up and down the strip for 1-2 NL games. Everywhere with a poker room has it. I think it is more fun to play in the bigger cardrooms which makes it more entertaining for me. So like nutz said... MGM, Bellagio are good. My favorite place to play is Venetian. I don't think there are many regs in the 1-2 game, just people who claim they are regs and lose all the time. But really, check everything out, you might find something that you like better than what everyone usually says. For example I like to people watch so playing 1-2 at O'Sheas can be very entertaining. The tables are basically right next to the sidewalk. When I'm looking cheap I stay at Bill's which is pretty much in the middle of the whole strip. IP works to. If you are planning on hanging out in your room at all though it might be better to just bite the bullet and spend more on a room. I have started to like the MGM/Mandalay Bay end of the strip so I have been staying at NYNY my last couple trips.

No, no...it's gotta be Bill's Gamblin' Hall, if only because that's exactly how they spell it.AND THEY HAVE RABID CRABS! RABID CRABS!
This settles it! Good ol' Bill's it is! FYP, btw, my "p" sometimes tybes a "b" too. I definitely plan on checking out many games, it's nice to hear I won't be left wanting at the limit I want to play. Really it was finding a place to stay that felt like the important part of the equation. Ideally I'd like to turn this into a situation where I'm staying indefinitely; buying myself a full month with no lease seems like the way to start things off. AJs510, thanks again for pointing me in the direction of Holiday Royale, I think that's going to work out perfectly for my situation.

Thanks, much appreciated. I suppose one more question, how hard is it to eat cheaply on the strip? I'm trying to figure out if it'll be worth the extra 150 or so bucks it'll cost for a kitchen and dishes.

Well, I suppose if you look around for deals and know what you're doing it's not that bad, but from a touristy standpoint (which all my trips there have been touristy rather than serious) it's pretty difficult. There's places like Chipotle and McDonalds and Dennys on the Strip, but any restaurant in any casino is going to have inflated prices, expect to be paying like $15 before tip for something as simple as chicken fingers and fries, a burger, basically anything. Doing that twice a day would add up in a big, big hurry. My last trip to Vegas was last month, I spent 6 nights and 7 days and I would estimate that I ate and drank about $120 per day (obviously a lot of that is alcohol). Figure $25 for the buffet at brunchtime, then maybe another $15 snack around 3-4pm, then a $25-30 dinner...you do that 3-4 times in one month and that's the difference between a kitchen in your apartment or not. It's extremely easy to cook through money eating and drinking on the Strip. You're probably better off getting an answer from people who've tried to make a go of Vegas and have spent considerable time there, all told I've only been there for maybe a month and I've only left the Strip to go to Fremont Street. It's certainly possible to do Vegas more cheaply than I did, but the casinos don't make that very easy on purpose. If you get off the Strip you can eat and live just like any other town, but still, groceries at home is always going to win over 2 meals of restaurants and takeout per day.

IP is totally fine, just make sure to get a Deluxe Room. I was there like 2 weeks ago, and actually had a bed that wasn't as bad I remembered. I've never had an issue with it being shitty except when I tried to upgrade and got a higher room, but not remodeled, so yeah, Deluxe room it up.

Out of sight out of mind then
I've really never had an issue at the IP though, besides the elevators. And I try to take measures to avoid that. When 5 out of 7 nights are free, I'll deal.

How'd you get free nights?
Just use your Total Rewards card on the website to look for rooms. If you combine it with another card, it helps even more. Obviously, I play at Harrah's properties when I'm there, and my gf plays slots a bit, but we don't gamble high stakes or anything, but if you use your card, and combine with a companion number it gets you some nice discounts.

I also use my Harrah's card (Total Rewards card) for room comps, had 2 weeks comped last year, and 2 nights free all the time. Not only are they good for free room comps but it also will get you free food, meals etc.the casinos in the States comp you better than here in CanadaThe players card is good for all the casino's even the one here in CanadaCaesars in Windsor
