I Have No Opinion On Contracts Thread 2011 Edition Part A

Last few years it was always 5-10 limit. Bob says they raised the limits.
forever since the beginning it was 5-10 and 10-20.Multiple sources have confirmed(Bob being the most reliable) that they are spreading 15-30, 20-40 and 25-50

How much do you typically buy in for at a 20-40 game? I never really played limit very much, but I'm so frustrated with NLHE at this point I'm willing to consider switching games.

I figure around $800. Bob would be best at this since he is the limit king.I might try and make it down on Sunday. Got to put in my hours to get the pass.

I have been thinking of getting him a job when he hits 16. So far it was flipping burgers and/or working at a pro shop sharpening skates.

$800 would be a pretty standard buyin for 20/40 live and then if you get below $500 buyin another $200 etc. You don't want to start any hand with less than $480 just in case it gets wild and capped on every street when you're holding the nuts. Also for table image reasons you don't want to show a short stack so there's nothing wrong with buying in for more. Back in the charity casino days in Toronto Daniel used to buyin for $1,000 at 10/20.

Well if you can arrange the travel i would be more than happy to hire him for the summer 2-3 shifts a week to start than when they get better they work 6 days a week. People are going to think i only hire asians as right now my entire staff is asian except for 2 kids. Come visit me on sunday I will be at the store closest to the main entrance.

Ok, thanks. My only real experience with LHE live was a few years ago when I was bored waiting for a 1/2NL seat to open up...grabbed an open seat at 10/20 with like $500 and got up 15 mins later down around $200...couldn't deal with the fact that everyone was in preflop and you basically had to have your hand hold up to bet-call-call-call-call action all the way to the river.

This is what I fear. I'm guessing super-tight play is optimal on a loose calling station table.

has the CNE opened already? As someone who lives in this city, I never make it down to Ont place, CNE or Centre Island. And I have a kid too. Its a shame.
CNE isnt open, just the Casino..btw. Limit Holdem is a much tougher game to master, this is why I love it. No disrespect to anyone but most NL players dont get the game. The way to make money in limit is to save bets. Most NL players see that its only a $10 bet and they always call. I LOVE LIMIT

Excellent point, Serge. So...pot odds don't seem to matter and learning to get out early is a good thing?

I think pot odds come into play, but implied odds arent as big as NL.When you are chasing a flush, you arent going to stack the guy like you would in NL...Sure you have to calculate odds but its different. Its all about value bets and saving bets.

I don't think Limit is a more skillful game than NL. Completely different, and no less skillful, I would agree with. Most NL players dismiss Limit poker as all luck based, which really couldn't be further from the truth.

Im not sure I understand what "saving bets" means. Care to elaborate?(there's probably a lot I dont know, but lets start here)btw, was there a public report on the Golf Foursome I missed while away? Did it happen, how was it?!?!?

We had a date semi scheduled for Golf Foursome but PK got called away to attend a Leafs kids hockey camp. We hope to reschedule soon. Most players in limit make "bad" calls. Either on the flop or usually on the river paying off a much better hand because its one bet.By not making these bad calls you are saving bets. While its a small bet , these bets add up. A good limit player is going to make about 2 big bets an hour(thats pretty good actually). So by saving 1-2 of these bets , this is how you make money.Everyone can play a flopped set, its the marginal calls that separate the bad players from the people that make money. There are a lot more things that go into limit ie isolating, semi bluffing, position play that can get VERY complicated and intricate.Like Dubey said most NL players think limit is a game of luck, it definetely isnt and its a very tough game to master.I personally play a tighter game. I think i am a very good NL player as well, however I get frustrated in NL. I can play perfect poker, take one bad beat and I am broke.Bad beats are gonna happen in limit obviously and should happen more frequently against bad players. However i am not going to go lose my stack if i get AA vs KK , or set over set.

I am all over this with Serge. I play just like that in limit.
