Vince Musso Leads the PackPosted 2 hours 43 minutes ago by SantanaBandana• Level 8: 400-800, 200 ante After eight hours of play, Vince Musso is the chip leader of Event #16: $10,000 2-7 Draw Lowball Championship with 106,200. Biting at his heels are a few very strong players though - Shaun Deeb (104,000), Nick Schulman (87,000), and Joe Cassidy (85,000) all had solid days. After four hours of late registration, the final number of entrants for Event #16 was 126 - which is 25 more players than last year. The field attracted some of the biggest names in poker, including the three double-digit WSOP bracelet winners Phil Hellmuth (68,200), Doyle Brunson, and Johnny Chan, last year's winner of this event David "Bakes" Baker (68,200), and a plethora of other established pro's. Unfortunately, Brunson didn't make it through the day, and neither did Eric Cloutier - the runner-up from last year. Chris Oliver, Tom "durrrr" Dwan, Jean-Robert Bellande, Phil Laak, Justin Smith and Justin Bonomo also failed to advance to Day 2. Some notables who did advance include David "Devilfish" Ulliot (56,500), Greg Raymer (22,300), Eugene Katchalov (40,900), and Joseph Cheung (31,600). The action resumes tomorrow at 3 p.m. PT, where we will play ten levels. Make sure to check back, but until then, goodnight from the Rio!Read more: http://www.pokernews.com/live-reporting/20...nship-no-limit/

The Table of AwesomePosted 4 minutes ago by EricRamsey• Level 9: 500-1,000, 300 ante Table 287 is awesome, for lack of a better adjective or a thesaurus. Mike Matusow and Phil Hellmuth are sitting together, and they're joined by David Williams, Jason Mercier, Nikolay Evdakov, ElkY, and Jen Harman. Talk about a melting pot. We're really not even sure how to begin reporting the table chatter. For now, we'll note that the lovely Jen Harman is sandwiched in between Matusow and Hellmuth, and she's taken to a vigorous massage to help keep her sane over there. Mercier also made a wheel against Hellmuth in a pretty big pot, and the lecture that followed is still keeping Matusow entertained about fifteen minutes later.Read more: http://www.pokernews.com/live-reporting/20...nship-no-limit/

This game is a mystery to me. I understand which hand wins but the mechanics are weird.

Deuce-to-Seven LowballIn deuce-to-seven lowball (sometimes known as Kansas City lowball), in most respects, the worst conventional poker hand wins. Straights and flushes count against a player, crippling the value of a hand. The ace is used only as a high card. Therefore, the best hand is 7-5-4-3-2, not all of the same suit. The hand 5-4-3-2-A is not considered to be a straight, but an A-5 high, so it beats other ace-high hands and pairs, but loses to king-high. A pair of aces is the highest pair, so it loses to any other pair. The rules for deuce-to-seven lowball are the same as those for ace-to-five lowball, except for the following differences: The best hand is 7-5-4-3-2 of at least two different suits. Straights and flushes count against a player, and aces are considered high only. Before the draw, an exposed card of 7, 5, 4, 3, or, 2 must be taken. Any other exposed card must be replaced (including a 6). Check-raise is allowed on any hand after the draw, and a 7 or better is not required to bet.No-Limit and Pot-Limit Lowball All the rules for no-limit and pot-limit poker apply to no-limit and pot-limit lowball. All other lowball rules apply, except as noted. A player is not entitled to know that an opponent cannot hold the best possible hand, so these rules for exposed cards before the draw apply: In ace-to-five lowball, a player must take an exposed card of A, 2, 3, 4, or 5, and any other card must be replaced. In deuce-to-seven lowball, the player must take an exposed card of 2, 3, 4, 5, or 7, and any other card including a 6 must be replaced. After the draw, any exposed card must be replaced. After the draw, a player can check any hand without penalty (The sevens rule is not used). Check-raise is allowed.

I'm hoping Hellmuth ends up in 2nd place. I want him to have a nice payday since he needs the money and seeing his reaction to finishing 2nd and not winning should be great entertainment.3ZJtxABdIvDE142vEqcN.png

John Juanda Spoils the Party, Wins Event #16: $10,000 2-7 No-Limit Draw ($367,170)Posted 1 hour 12 minutes ago by EricRamsey• Level 26: 25,000-50,000, 15,000 ante Event #16 is over here just shortly after the midnight hour in Las Vegas. John Juanda has just been handed a WSOP gold bracelet for the fifth time in his career, overcoming a big heads-up chip disadvantage to claim the title in what is arguably the most entertaining event of the Series. Some would say it was meant to be Phil Hellmuth's 12th bracelet party today, four years to the day after he snagged number eleven. Doubters flocked to the rail from the start of play, but Hellmuth stood tall as seven players fell by the wayside. His play was mostly stellar through the first half of the day, and he amassed a huge chip lead as the players dropped one by one. Among them were the 2009 and 2010 champions of this event, Nick Schulman and David Baker, exiting in fifth and sixth places, respectively. The 2004 champion of the whole darn WSOP, Greg Raymer made it to this final day too, but he would fall in ninth place even before the last eight were relocated to the main stage. Today's story truly was a memorable one, and you'd do well to read back through the blog if you missed any of the action. At the dinner break, Hellmuth had more than 2.6 million of the 3.8 in play with three players left. Juanda knocked Richard Ashby out in third place shortly after they returned, though, and he had his sights fixed firmly on Hellmuth's stack. When heads-up play began, Hellmuth still had about a 3:1 chip lead, but Juanda's edge in skill soon began to show through. He picked away at Hellmuth's stack with methodical precision, and the two locked horns in an hours-long tug of war. Many in the poker world consider Juanda to be one of the best 2-7 no-limit players in the world, and he proved that reasoning valid tonight, pressing Hellmuth into a corner as the levels wore on. It was more than three hours of heads-up play before the final series of hands began to unravel. Hellmuth was showing signs of increasing frustration over the last hour or so, and Juanda thrived on the opportunity to quietly get under his opponent's skin. After fighting with such a strong pose for so long, Hellmuth began to look a bit downtrodden and unpleasant, sinking in his chair and mumbling under his breath. In the final hand, he got his money in pat with a queen, and Juanda drew live to his jack to lock up the bracelet. Hellmuth was sincere in his congratulations, it appeared, admitting he was scared of Juanda's heads-up game. John Juanda finished in fourth place the last two years in this event, and he began this final day dangerously short on chips at the bottom of the heap. Apparently the third time's the charm. Nine hours later, he sits alone at the table with all 3.78 million chips in play. And a shiny new bracelet. It's number five in his career, and it comes with the extra bragging rights of denying number twelve for Mr. Hellmuth. We hope you've enjoyed the spectacle from the Rio tonight. For now, this night stands alone as the marquee scene thus far in the 2011 World Series of Poker. But there are still another 40 events to be played, and we can nearly promise more moments like tonight. Until tomorrow, then, all that's left is goodnight! Oh, and a huge congratulations to our new champion, John Juanda!Read more: http://www.pokernews.com/live-reporting/20...nship-no-limit/

Daniel thinks Juanda is a great 2-7 player especially heads up.RealKidPokerDaniel NegreanuLast thought: Juanda is the best all around 2-7 player I've ever played with, especially in tournaments. He reads people very well.RealKidPokerDaniel NegreanuFun Juanda story: he actually built a large portion of his early bankroll playing people HU 2-7 at Commerce. No one ever beat him.RealKidPokerDaniel NegreanuCongrats @LuckBoxJuanda on #5 and well done @phil_hellmuth on 2nd. Was fun to rail at home online.

phil needs the money? Dish the dirt!
Everybody needs the money. No dirt just some speculation. He hasn't cashed very much in tourneys over the last couple years. Even before he officially left UB he probably wasn't getting much from them and if he had any investment in UB it would have been made worthless.Outside of online site endorsements players don't really make much money other than actually playing and he isn't a feared cash game player or anything.
