Recently received e-mail:We just want to make sure you receive the invite to our Annual 2+2 Party hosted at the Wynn Casino here in Las Vegas. To let us know that you are coming, please post in the 2011 Party RSVP thread. Were also excited to announce that Republican Presidential Candidate, former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson will be attending and will say a few words to all of us. He’s a strong supporter of poker and believes that we should have the freedom to play on the Internet.First some background on the Governor:Gary Johnson is the former two-term Governor of New Mexico, a Republican candidate for President, and a long-time defender of personal freedoms which include your right to play online poker.Governor Johnson has strongly condemned the federal crackdown on online poker, arguing that the right to assume risk and to gamble in the privacy of one's own home is a basic right that should not involve the government.Read more about Governor Johnson in on our News, Views, and Gossip Forum in this thread: Why Should Poker Players Get to Know Gary Johnson.and here is a statement that Governor Johnson has issued:Government has absolutely no business telling Americans what they can do with their own time and their own money on their own computers, and that most certainly should apply to playing poker online. The fact that Americans are now prevented from playing online poker is an outrage. Unfortunately it is but another chilling example of how Congress and the Justice Department continue to trample on our personal liberty. As President, I will do everything in my power to restore your right to play online poker, and ensure that such a right can never be taken away again.Protect your Internet freedom by signing up on our special landing page for poker player supporters of Gary Johnson. For some additional party information, we'll have exclusive use of the sportsbook lounge with complimentary food and beverage and lots of poker tables waiting for your action just a few feet away. Be sure to stop by and say hello to me and the rest of the Two Plus Two gang. And finally, Mike and Adam from the Two Plus Two PokerCast will also be there collecting tales and comments from as many people as they can. So be sure to visit them as well.We hope to see you all at this year's party and thank all of you for your support.Best Wishes,Mason Malmuth

Yeah, he's always said he wouldn't do that because he's been treated well by the R's, but this time, not so much. I don't think he'd do it if Ron Paul looks like the Republican nominee, but he probably would otherwise. Either way, he's lucky he'd get 1-2% of the vote. That could be just enough to stop an idiot like Romney or Gingrich from destroying the name of free markets for 4 years.

Really? Only 1 or 2 percent? I think he could get pretty strong if his message gets out. Hell, If he could get Ross Perot like money (a huge if...... ok, the hugest if in the history of the word) he could do some damage, and he won't just draw from the republican candadate, those independents you talked about in the other thread, that went to Obama, would flock to a guy like Johnson, meh!! Probably just wishful thinking. But...... who knows

Yeah, he's immensely popular in New Mexico, where he was actually in charge. I just don't see any way for him to get his message out. The media will not support a candidate that doesn't love corporate welfare, because the media is a bunch of big corporations. They don't want to hear from candidates who want to kick them off the dole. That leaves a zillionaire benefactor running ads for him, and that's just not going to happen.I'll probably vote for him no matter what, even if I have to write him in. The only exception is is RP is on the ballot, I could live with a vote for him.

There is weird vibe out there right now. Over at NRO (National Review Online) they have been pushing such a lame, half-assed endorsement for Romney that I LOL with each new half-hearted defense of his flip-flops, lack of conservative credentials, ect. ect. ect. ..... .... yet every time they put Ron Paul in a poll, he jumps off the page, but you will rarely ever see his name mentioned in major content. Their most popular commentator, Mark Steyn, has eviscerated each and every Republican candidate, and has admitted that Ron Paul (though Steyn is not a Ron Paul fan) is the only Republican candidate who will even talk about serious reform that will have to take place to get US back on path of sustainability. There is a rather large block of voters out there that don't have a voice right now. If a candidate can tap into that they could make things interesting by making a third party run.The big question is how to do that with the a hostile media from the left and right. I don't have the answer but you can bet that what ever the answer, it carries a huge pricetag. Wish I had money to contribute.

Gary Johnson needs to learn to speak the English language before he tries to run for Pres.

Have you seen him lately? I think he's been taking lessons. He's still no Barry 'prompter' Obama, but he does much better.

Johnson is officially the candidate for the LP now. I would love to see him in the debates against Tweedledee and Tweedledum. He's still polling just below 10%, so it's within reach. And once Paul is knocked out, it'll be a bit easier.
