The state poker sites are coming online soon. A new golden age of poker is going to dawn after this bloodbath.

That's my feeling too. But when, and how long long until the US is allowed to play with the rest of the world is a really good question.Ironically, I think this is all going to shake-out so that Congress ends up smelling like a rose (to the uninformed anyway). We go through the Blackout, but then in the end, Congress passes some measure to officially allow US citizens to play online, and the whole country marvels at how beautiful our representatives are, and how marvelous that they have created jobs in this time of economic crisis, yada, yada, yada...IMHO, the DOJ is in-bed with Harrah's... Maybe not directly. Perhaps more like DOJ's sister is sleeping with Harrah's brother. Expect some inbred children at some point.

Too little, too late.Where was your Voice calling for Players to Band together over the past 5 years?
A lot of us have been sending letters to our representatives regularly over the last 2+ years. In fact thanks to efforts by the PPA and letters from players in Colorado, such as myself, one of our Senators did a full 180 with regard to online poker and will now vote for and work on our behalf. It's not "too little, too late" either, imo. I'm trying not to be naive, but I really believe that this is going to lead to legislation and regulation in the U.S.It's rather cliche, but I honestly believe that there is too much money in online poker for corporations and the government not to get a piece.

That's great, but how many of you made the demands to On Line Gaming Providers to become a Regulated Industry?I 100% agree that the Industry needed Regulation - but now that the DOJ is involved and have their hooks in the Industry Leaders, it is going to have to go through the Legislative process. The OLG Industry will fight tooth & nail. And lose. Then the fines and potential jail time will need to be sorted out. Then, and only then, the Industry will finally start working with the US Government to figure out how to regulate - and most importantly TAX - On-Line Gaming.

Interesting conclusion.crosspost from another thread
Here's the little conspiracy theory I thought up a couple days ago.Imagine you're one of the biggest B&M casino corporations in the U.S. You've seen all the cash going to FTP and PS meanwhile your revenue stream has been shrinking and volatile at best. But you're no fool. Nope, you've been researching and perfecting your own poker software that will allow you to get into this lucrative market. However, overcoming the nearly decade long lead in the market place held by FTP, PS, UB et al is going to be an expensive proposition. The advertising budget that will be required to make this new venture sustainable is going to be significant. But there's an easier and less expensive way. You've earned a lot of pull with some government heavyweights, why not get them to do your dirty work for you? Then, a couple of years later, after the competition has been thoroughly gutted, or maybe even put out of business outright, you get your government lapdogs to work on repealing the legislation that served you so well in stifling your competitors but is now a hindrance to your desire for dominance the marketplace. Tell them about all those lovely tax dollars, not to mention campaign dollars, they'll get from the near-monopoly in online U.S. gaming. In five or so years you've grabbed your company the lion's share of a multi-billion dollar empire in what amounts to the most hostile of takeovers.

The DOJ has a FB page. Feel free to like them and then post on their wall. (Try to keep it civil obviously.)http://www.facebook.com/DOJ?sk=wall&filter=1
Every single comment is about online poker , maybe just maybe they might get a message there. On the original topic, i'm not an American, I don't live in America and have zero influence on American matters but i still think this sucks. Even our last goverment, which taxed everything that moved, didn't try to tax or stop online poker.

"Ban" together? It's "BAND" together. Your welcome.<ssw>
And we wonder why we as the poker community can't get things done, we're always too busy flaming each other and correcting each others spelling and grammar. I miss one letter in a word and this is the only thing you have to say.

I've only been playing for 2 years and the whole time I've been sending emails to my congressmen and senators. This attitude is part of the problem. We need to stop flaming each other and stand together and demand action!

President Obama's facebook townhall - April 20 @ 1:45pm PDT / 4:45pm EDThttp://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=122119071195720wtg Lisa awesome post

Lisa NicholsPresident Obama, I voted for you and made contributions to your campaign. I have been disappointed in your administration on a number of occasions since you took office but I understand that change takes time. What has just happened with the DoJ and the 3 biggest online poker sites is an abomination of justice. This action put thousands of people out of a job, many of whom started playing after either graduating from college and not being able to find jobs or who lost jobs and couldn't find another one. Now these people are out of work again. When is your administration going to get something done about online poker legislation? This country is missing out on billions of dollars in tax revenue by leaving this legislation in limbo and now many are suffering because of the DoJ's action. When can we expect to see this hope and change you promised?

I really enjoyed this from the townhall page.Gambling is:- Having a 401k. - Trusting the government to regulate markets and enforce a bevy of laws already on the books our parents and grandparents realized were needed to oversee recklessly over-leveraged banks who invent financial "instruments" they themselves don't understand just to feed their insatiable avarice.- Trusting products made and/or sold in the U.S. are safe (from BGH in food to Chinese lead in toys).- Thinking that SSI or Medicare will exist when you retire. - Electing people (ahem, sir?) who claim not to be corporate shills and promise "change". - Taking out college loans thinking you'll ever pay it back when it only qualifies you for entry level work at Disneyland.- Working 9 to 5 for a company that is looking for every possibility to slash labor costs by "outsourcing" your job to India, a process made easier by the endless string of "free trade" agreements our politicians enact to "benefit" us.That's gambling. #Poker is a skill game.

what are they going to do? "Regarding our indictment of online poker heavyweights....uh, nevermind. Due the influx of poker comments on our facebook wall we've decided to drop the case. Now we love online poker!!"

Just keep making the calls as silly as it seems if a very large percentage of us do it and do it repeatedly they may pay at least a little attention to us.
