So since this is by far the largest recently new thread and most of us were barred from PS and FTP real money play (hence cant really get big money results), is the thread OP the new member of the month? Just wondering obv.

http://www.cardplayer.com/poker-news/11251...ay-lars-bondingMoving Forward After Black Friday: Lars BondingPoker Pro and His Family Plan to Move Back to Denmark In this new series on Card Player, we present to you a top poker pro who has had his or her world turned upside down by the events on Black Friday. In this edition we bring you Lars Bonding, his wife, and their two kids.Lars BondingVeteran tournament grinder Lars “Dsavo” Bonding has been one of the best online players in the world over the course of his career. However, due to the recent indictments of the major online poker sites, effectively shutting down their U.S. operations, Vegas-based Bonding has had to put his computer on standby.Bonding is a case file on poker as a game of ingenuity, rather than karma. He had been on one of the best tears in the history of online poker earlier this year. Over the course of a few months, the Denmark native recorded two wins and a fourth place finish in the $200 buy-in PokerStars Sunday Warmup, which had consistently drew more than 4,600 entrants each week. The run netted him about $250,000.“My husband is not a gambler, per se,” said Lars’ wife Esther. “He’s a numbers man. Before poker he was one of the best backgammon players in the world. Of course there’s an element of luck in all games, but the fact that he’s made a consistently good income year after year from poker only confirms you have to have skill to sustain your success.”The BondingsThe consistency has netted Mr. Bonding nearly $2 million in career tournament earnings. He hasn’t been playing all these years to degenerate into the lifestyle of a gambler, or even to simply travel the world and have a good time. He and his wife have two boys, ages five and three, and they will all make the move back to Lars’ home country of Denmark — a place where widespread online poker is available.Despite having plenty of the money saved and stored offline, the Bondings will have to make adjustments. “The majority of our income has come from his online success, and we’ve definitely enjoyed the fruits of it,” Esther said. “I guess we’ll just have to tone things down for a while until we feel more secure about the situation.”Lars said that the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) is puzzling, and he expressed a sentiment that players are resigned to suffer the consequences handed over by politicians who believe poker is a game of happenstance. “It’s tough for me to understand why the United States would ever implement the law in the first place. There is a lot of things I don’t understand about this country and my own country, and that’s the way it is.”The situation in Denmark is also far from ideal, according to Bonding, but it is a far better option than remaining in the land of opportunity. Bonding said that players can pay up to 50 percent in taxes on their winnings in his home country. But that isn’t stopping the family of four from planning the move.see link for the rest of the article

http://www.womanpokerplayer.com/pokernews/...line-poker.htmlPPA: Goal to Highlight the Need for Licensed and Regulated Online PokerThursday, 05 May 2011 11:05Members of the Poker Players Alliance (PPA), the leading poker grassroots advocacy group with more than one million members nationwide, will travel to Washington, D.C., May 23rd and 24th to tell Congress that it needs to pass legislation to establish U.S. regulated online poker this year.“Our members are anxious to get to Washington and tell their lawmakers to restore their freedom to play poker on the Internet,” said PPA Chairman, Former Senator Alfonse D’Amato. “During our fly in, members of Congress will meet firsthand with constituents who have been impacted by the lack of clarity in the law and the recent actions taken by the Department of Justice to shut down Internet poker.”The PPA will be hosting approximately 30 of its volunteer State Directors, who are PPA members designated as the lead for their state, as well as some professional poker players. These individuals will meet with targeted lawmakers and make the case for regulated online poker. Additionally, the PPA is encouraging its entire membership to come to Washington and meet with their Congressional representatives. PPA will provide its members with the tools and information they need to arrange and execute those meetings.“We have heard from our members and there is urgency in their voices – they want Congress, now more than ever, to establish common sense public policy that regulates online poker and gives adults the freedom to enjoy our nation’s favorite card game on the Internet. We will be coming to Washington at a perfect time. There is a raging debate in Congress about how to fund necessary programs, create U.S. jobs and also expand the freedoms of our citizens. Regulated Internet poker is a common-sense solution that can help Congress tackle all three of these priorities. There is no time to waste,” said John Pappas, executive director of the PPA. “Given the events of April 15th and the beginning of the World Series of Poker in late May, now is the time for PPA members to make their voices heard in the offices of their elected officials. Now is the time for Congress to act and protect Americans’ freedom to play poker online.”The PPA will be releasing additional details about the fly in in the coming days, as well as providing an advocacy action plan for members who are unable to travel to DC but still want to make their voices heard on May 23rd and 24th.

I really hope to god that this works. However, I really don't like the fact of the government having full dibs on this. Also, if they tax the crap out of it, would it really be worth playing? Thats my biggest issue. How much are they going to tax it, what will determine a necessary tax, and how will we have to report it if the government takes control of it.

The site would be the one covering a lot if not all of the costs. Keep in mind, if all things are legislated and legit, the sites won't have to worry about losing money in the payment processing end like they were - trying to get around the UIGEA. At least that's how I understood it when stars and FTP were trying to push legislation.

I'm not a "government knows best" guy, but I think there is a chance that "public"-run systems will be cheaper.

Feds Grab Home Belonging To Former Playboy Playmate In Online Poker ForfeitureMay. 5 2011 - 4:02 pm By NATHAN VARDIFederal prosecutors on Thursday moved to seize five homes connected to individuals recently indicted in a sweeping crackdown on the online poker industry, including a Las Vegas mansion owned by former Playboy Playmate Destiny Davis, who was Playboy Magazine’s Miss January in 2005.According to a supplemental forfeiture filed on Thursday in Manhattan’s federal court, the government is moving to seize a 7,200 square-foot estate in a Las Vegas gated community. The house was purchased by Davis last year for $1.5 million, according to Clark County Assessor records. Davis recently married Chad Elie the day after he was arrested and charged with conspiring to commit bank fraud by processing payments for online poker firms. Elie, 31, pleaded not guilty and was released on a $250,000 bond secured by $50,000 cash to be paid by Davis and two others. The government also moved to grab four homes owned or connected to Ray Bitar, a founder of Full Tilt Poker, the world’s second biggest online poker firm, who was also indicted in April and accused of operating an illegal gambling business and conspiring to commit bank fraud.ARTICLE CONTINED AT LINK ABOVE

http://taopoker.blogspot.com/2011 WSOP Schedule - 2010 Main Event Money Winners and PayoutsFriday, May 06, 2011PokerStars' Office Raided in Costa Rica by FederalesBy PaulyLas Vegas, NVThis just in... but according to a friend of mine in San Jose, Costa Rica... the OIJ, aka the Costa Rican version of the FBI, raided the offices of PokerStars this morning. They sent all of the workers home.I've seen enough episodes of Law and Order to assume that the Costa Rican FBI are combing through files to eventually hand over to the DOJ.There's also a report (thanks to @KevMath for the assist) from @Ckrafcik that the offices of UB/Absolute were also raided... that is, what is left of the company after it got gutted the other day when 95% of their staff were given the proverbial boot out the front door earlier in the week amidst rumors of bankruptcy, before they re-hired 20% of their employees to maintain a skeleton staff and save face after a huge PR shitstorm that fell their way when word got out that almost everyone was axed.Stay tuned for more info as my sources in Costa Rica report back to me.I talked to another friend in Costa Rica who works for a major online sportsbook, and he said, "No raids in the sportsbooks. We're bulletproof. Business as usual here. Who do you want to bet in the NBA tonight?"see more from Link Above

Poker Stars already commented that everything is back to normal at the Costa Rican offices. The police visited because they were concerned about the employees not getting paid their severance at AP/UB and wanting to make sure there wasn't going to be a problem at Poker Stars. Costa Rica has very strict employee rights laws and if a company goes out of business they're supposed to have kept enough money to pay the employee's severance on hand. When Bet On Sports went out of business their employees got stiffed and that has made people in Costa Rica extra aware of the issue.

lol FTP I think they may be as bad as AP/UB at this pointWhen are we getting our money back?- Here's the official statement about where we currently stand on US withdrawals:"Since April 15th and the days immediately following, Full Tilt Poker faced numerous challenges and hurdles to ensuring the smooth operation of its international business and the orderly return of US player funds. FTP has worked tirelessly to address these issues and has made significant progress on both fronts. FTP's international business operations are returning to normal while we focus on ensuring the safe and orderly return of US player deposits. We are absolutely committed to making sure that US players are refunded as soon as possible. We apologize for the delay and the fact that we underestimated the time it would take to work through these issues. We will update our US players when we have more specific information to provide."And what's going to happen with our points?- We will be opening up the FTP Store to US players again. All of the details haven't been worked out yet, but this is how you will be able to use your points. It's expected that everything in the store will be available for purchase except for bonuses and tickets. We will be sure to keep everyone updated when we know more, including when the store will re-open.Where we're at in terms of reconciling US player accounts:All promos have been paid out. That includes Take 2, Tournament Leaderboards, Cash Back, and the FTOPS Satellite Challenge payments.T$ and Ticket conversion has started, but is a slower process and will continue through next week.Pending rakeback payments should also happen next week, but only after all of the store purchases that need to be refunded have been refunded.Iron Man medals have been distributed for April's play. Iron Man freeroll tickets will be converted to medals before all medals are converted to FTPs.read the rest here:2+2 5/15 non-update update thread
