Shooting Star Day 1A About to BeginYou may not be used to seeing players take to the tables at 10AM, but that is far from the only unusual thing about the Shooting Star Event here at the Bay 101 Casino in San Jose, California. The Shooting Star event has been a circuit favorite for players and fans alike thanks to a number of unique quirks, including 45 Shooting Star players with $5,000 bounties on their heads, a $10,000 bonus for the players who end Day 1A and Day 1B with the chip lead, and six-handed play from the final 36 players onward.Today, 25 of the Shooting Stars will join the rest of the Day 1A field for ten one-hour levels of play. Some of the bounties in today's field include Daniel Negreanu, Jason Mercier, Dan Harrington, last year's sixth place finisher, Phil Hellmuth, John Juanda, Dwyte Pilgrim, Kara Scott, Erik Seidel, Joe Sebok, and Dan Cates aka jungleman12, who will be making his WPT debut.

Daniel Negreanu Picks Up an Early PotLevel 2: 75-150, anteWith the board showing Q76J on the turn and about 5,000 already in the pot, Seyed Edalat checks from middle position, Daniel Negreanu bets 4,000, and Edalat calls. The river card is the 9, and Edalat winces and groans like that card ruined his hand. Negreanu looks at him and says, "What? The nine got you? Why'd you react like that?" Edalat says nothing, and Negreanu bets 15,000. Edalat tanks for about two minutes before he folds KQ (pair of queens) face up. Negreanu says, "Nice hand. I thought you had ace-queen." Negreanu takes the pot.Daniel Negreanu - 40,000

Love the battle between Daniel and DwyteNegreanu TRIES to Get in Pilgrim's HeadLevel 4: 100-200, 25 anteOn a board of AspadeKclub10club3heart9club, Dwyte Pilgrim bets 4,800 and Daniel Negreanu goes into the tank. Negreanu tries to replay the hand in his head, wondering what Pilgrim could have considering he checked the flop and bet the turn. "I'm the worst bounty in the tournament", says Pilgrim as Negreanu calls the bet. Pilgrim shows 3spade3diamond for a set. "Okay, now I see why you checked the flop and bet the turn", says Negreanu as he throws his hand into the muck. "It's gonna be a bounty fight", says Pilgrim as he rakes in the pot. Pilgrim is up to 55,000 this hand while Negreanu drops down to 73,000. Pilgrim - 55,000 Negreanu -72,000

I'd love it too if JustinTV would step up their game. Right now it's just... ehh... Without Daniel there, with audio and vid quality like this, it would be unwatchable. It is a good table though. It would border on awsome if we could see the cards and jtv stepped into 21st century live web-casting quality. They need to create a channel that airs all poker, and broadcasts tourneys live like they did with the PCA final table on ESPN. That was awsome!!Edit: By "They", I don't mean jtv. PokerStars brass needs to add their page to the cable channel listings. 847 on Comcast works for me. :club:

Negreanu's Commentary ContinuesLevel 4: 100-200, 25 antePerhaps in an effort to entertain those watching the streaming table, Shooting Star Daniel Negreanu has taken to provide a running commentary of every hand he plays.Case in point, this pot with Greg Sessler:Negreanu raises to 600 from middle position, Sessler calls in the cutoff, and the player in the big blind defends. The flop comes down Aspade9diamond6heart and the big blind checks. Negreanu bets 1,200, Sessler calls, and the player in the big blind folds."This is a spot where you're unlikely to be floating," Negreanu tells Sessler matter-of-factly. "You have to have something to call iwth a player behind."The turn brings the Qheart and Negreanu studies the board. He asks Sessler, "You didn't call with king-jack, did you?""I could have called with king-jack of hearts," Sessler responds with a smile. Negreanu takes another minute and checks, telling Sessler, "This is probably the safest play since I'm such a small baller.""I'm a small baller too," Sessler says quietly as he checks behind. The river is the 7diamond and Negreanu checks again. Sessler pauses to mull over his options and Negreanu takes to talking again."Are you afraid to value bet? I think you're scared I am going to call with worse."Sessler tries to protest that Negreanu is wrong and eventually bets 1,750. Negreanu folds and Sessler takes the pot."We should do that every hand," Negreanu tells Sessler. "Commentate on every hand."Daniel Negreanu - 88,000Greg Sessler - 43,000

You can't compare the two really. This is just heh lets throw a camera up and stream and hope something is interesting without spending any money. Something is better than nothing.Poker Stars streaming are big budget operations being paid out of the Stars marketing budget.

Bob, you're on the inside, tell PokerStars to do what I suggested, take that big budget marketing money and create their own channel. They're big enough right?!?

Daniel Negreanu Doesn't Get What He WantsLevel 9: 400-800, 100 anteDwyte Pilgrim raises to 1,800 from under the gun and the player in middle position makes it 4,200 to play.Daniel Negreanu is in the hijack and pauses a minute before making it 8,700 to play. Both Pilgrim and the other player fold, and Negreanu takes the pot.Negreanu checks his holdings one more time, shakes his head, and tells the table, "Not what I wanted."Daniel Negreanu - 56,000
