mrdannyg 274
Not only is this a viable solution, but it's entirely practical. The problem is, much like people who are generally opposed to all gun rights yet demand for "better training for gun owners", your own ideas result in an outcome that still doesn't match up with your implied ideologies. The United States could exercise its dominion over all of planet earth, save for maybe China and Russia, by simply flying sorties and pushing the button whenever any country got out of line. When presented with the reality of total annihilation from an adversary capable of accomplishing it, a country will submit 100% of the time and serve our demands without any need for an 'occupying force'. We saw that with Japan after we cracked a couple atoms on them and suddenly, all that 'willingness to die for the Emperor' took a back seat to our old Darwinian impulse, to not have everything we know destroyed, everyone we know killed. There's absolutely no fore-brain ideology that can undermine millenniums old hind-brain impulse. The problem is, it would require actually doing it, which we don't have the stomach for anymore. Some country would eventually test our willingness to do it, which would entail a lot of dead non-Caucasian women, children and innocent civilians. This probably isn't something you'd be too cool with in the name of 'peace'. Ever see what the allies did in WWII? Firebombing Dresden and Tokyo? Had we lost that war, LeMay, Eisenhower, Churchill and a whole lotta others would've been stood before the Axis version of the Hague and dropped from the gallows. But yes. "Peace" can absolutely, positively be accomplished with air power alone, so long as it's accompanied by a willingness to use it to its full capacities, which we aren't willing to do. This is also why we haven't decisively 'won' a war since we lost our stomach for it after the second big one. Wars are won by savagery. Air conditioning and color TV kicked that right out of us. Add internet porn into the mix, we're basically French at this point.im good with this. i wasnt suggesting it because it is more peaceful and my lib-brain requires that. i think it is less peaceful by most definitions, but saves lives and money.then again, the United Nations would send a strongly worded letter and YOU DO NOT WANT THAT

AmScray 355
I gave this DVD to one of my former bosses, a vietnam war vet. amazing. errol morris.I've never seen that clip before, but I disagree with McNamara's new found religion on the matter. Maybe when I'm 90, my opinion will 'soften' a bit but wars should either be fought completely, or not at all. "Proportionality" isn't a relevant factor when submission is the objective. Balloon guy 158
The Chicago Teachers Strike is getting really ugly. The teachers are the highest paid in the country, were offered a 16% raise and are demanding a 30% raise. It's too bad Chicago can't import some Scott Brown for a couple months to help them fix things before the inner city kids get more screwed by the teachers unions.

Balloon guy 158
The movies been out for months. They chose 9-11 for a reason. No easy answer for America though. Pressure for the new Libyan government to bring the murders to justice very quickly is about the only thing we can do. So we are dependent on Libya to handle our response. Not a good place to be.
