Gold Rush: Alaska

Anyone else watching this? The network is touting it as "television's highest rated show" or something like that so I assume somebody besides myself is watching. Either that or I haven't realized the power I hold, but I digress.A bunch of dudes, most blue collar types like construction workers and carpenters, head to a gold claim in Alaska to find their fortune. So far it's been a disaster. It seems that they did the barest amount of research on how to operate a mine, use and maintain the necessary equipment, or even live in a wild environment. To compound their problems they don't have to support just the mining crew at camp but they decided to bring their wives and children along. It is one of the most frustratingly funny shows on tv IMHO. After watching one episode it becomes readily apparent these folks are in WAY over their heads. Everything they try to accomplish takes 2 or 3 tries to get even close to half-assed correct. They've already cause a little girl to have a seizure because they weren't purifying an unexplored water source and it looked like an animal was decomposing further upstream and was full of beaver feces. Oh and their only mechanic has an opiate dependency! He started going through withdrawals half way through the summer mining season. While I respect their ambition to "go west" it's hilarious to see how befuddled and clueless they come across.

Yeah, I've seen every episode. Last nights sorting table or whatever it was called was the epitome of the issues the Camp Porcupine has faced all season. It's kind of like Ax Men in that every episode is about shit breaking down, how it gets fixed, and some personnel drama mixed in that's dragged out over several weeks and nothing ever seems to really happen. Except Ax Men has the Swamp Man and Piss Willy which is one of the best 10 minutes of television every week.
