I'm definitely guilty of the prospect love, mostly because every time I've traded away decent futures for "right now" it really hasn't worked out very well.

I still believe I can build a championship team through the draft.

Arp, it's still early! It's like taking a test, I might finish first, but I always wait until someone else hands in their test first.

lol, not a bad point.

I was just surprised at the total lack of tire kicking even. I can understand not making a trade because the other party is asking for too much, but I cant understand how if you think you are going for it, how a team dumping their rentals shouldnt be #1 on your XMAS wish list. At least ask to see what Im looking for.

Credit to the Flyers, he would not stop trying, as busy/disinterested as I was at times in making this deal.

Aren't you the team with the maxed out salary cap?

Did you draft the extra $25? :)

sorry, not trying to be an ass, just saying. :)

My team is too good to need your silly upgrades, Arp.

Are you not the team that I just beat this weekend, while I was TRYING to lose?

ya, you need no improvement, you should go far with that bunch of overhyped Zach Attacks.

I knew that would come back as I typed it. In all seriousness, that was the worst possible lineup I could possibly put together this year.

arp, I don't think we have had a productive talk since I started trying to compete. I'm not going to waste your time, we just aren't close on valuations. I've made like 5 deals this season, I don't think I'm contributing to any problems.

ah yes, I have seen your .25 in 18-19 for Jordan Leopold blockbusters. Wasnt that like your last 2 trades? :)

could be we just dont agree, but its not about just me, its about anyone who has what I have, and no offers at all coming in. Its not the end of the world for me, I'm still on the fence on whether I want to completely tank anyway a la Steven..... I was just pointing out that the FCHL is also not perfect by a longshot in terms of active trading..

I think our formats might make it less likely for in season trades to happen than some other keeper formats do possibly.

Because there is so much short term luck involved and parity you have a lot of teams who are good but not great so not going to make any big moves in season that will cost them a lot of future value. Plus one player doesn't really make that much difference unless they are a true superstar. Take Henrik Sedin who is available in the AHL currently. He's a good but great player and the best teams have depth that means when Sedin makes the lineup he's probably replacing another player who isn't that much worse than Sedin is.

I think its more like the Underdogs dont have a team in this league thats why...

I agree with some parts of the argument that you are making (that sometimes the improvement does not justify the price) but I would respectfully disagree that the trades do not, in the long run, make a huge difference in separating you from the parity, especially in the playoffs.

They are not a guarantee of a win, like anything else, but they are certainly a big help.

I agree..

I would definetely make a play for Henrik Sedin...Then eventually Crosby and Malkin when Dan realizes his team not gonna go far in the playoffs.

The issue with my situation is the CAP..

Sorry to hijack thread..

Without actually looking it up and I'm just speculating here, but how many teams are actually in a position where that type of trade makes sense or is extremely urgent?

I doubt it makes sense for anyone around or below you in the standings to deal for those type of players. The top couple teams probably don't have the cap space available or would be just swapping one stud for another in their lineup. That leaves the middle tier of teams as possibilities, but they are pretty bunched up in the standings so I doubt anyone is feeling the pressure yet.

I would imagine that you will receive a lot more offers closer to the trade deadline. Just a thought.

And of course, my team is so good it's not worth anyone else trying this year...

I'm pretty sure Ollie actually does think this way. I know back in my glory years, whenever two teams made a trade, I'd look at it and think "Oh, that's cute"

Christmas break update:

OzdzMmWQ5xH9q7Z2zb0u.jpg

I just updated the last 9 or 10 game nights. The leader basically cycled between me, Mike, and Ollie. Ollie dropped off a bit the last few games, and Duane has been hot, so he's climbed up to even with Ollie. Broadway not too far behind, either. Steve has been hot lately, 9 pts in his last 3 games.
