1.12pm: Houghton and Negreanu go at itDaniel Negreanu is a player known to most (no, make that all) poker players. He's arguably Team PokerStars' biggest star, has racked up millions in tournament winnings and just as many hours in TV time. Laurence Houghton is less known but his online name rivermanl is respected enough that Negreanu named him in his blog as part of his tough table (along with ElkY).Houghton had started the action from early position and found Negreanu willing to contest the pot from the cut-off. Unfortunately we missed the action on the 5♦3♦T♠ flop but we did see Houghton fire 1,150 at the K♠ turn, which Negreanu called. Houghton fired out 2,550 at the Q♥ river card and Negreanu didn't waste much time raising to 8,550. Houghton did not look amused. Far from it. He looked quite pained and finally mucked his hand. -- RD

02pm: Negreanu concedes defeatDaniel Negreanu just extricated himself from a right ol' pickle (A tight spot - Ed). Liviu-Georg Ignat had opened to 350 from the hijack (although the cut-off seat was vacant) and Mr Negreanu decided to three-bet from the button to 1,200. Call.Negreanu fired 1,400 at the 8♥A♠2♥ flop and 2,800 at the 8♠ turn. When checked to on the 7♦ river he simply smiled and checked behind, tossing J♠7♣ on its back. Ignat showed pocket queens. Negreanu said: "Lucky I made a pair on the river so I didn't have to bluff anymore!" Would he have picked up a call from a third barrell? Probably. -- RD

Daniel Negreanu (pictured) is down to under half his stack (around 13k) after a turn card which saw Javier Garcia practically move at lightning speed to threebet all in.The flop of was threeway with Elky involved as well, but after he bet 1k and Negreanu called on the button, Garcia check-raised out of the big blind. Elky folded but after a brief ponder Negreanu called. The turn paired the board with the . Out bet Garcia, 4,050 this time. Negreanu wordlessly raised to 10,150. This was the point where Garcia's whole stack (more than his opponent's) moved so fast across the line there were burn marks on the felt. Shaking his head Negreanu let the hand go after a short think and is now down to a stack which, to be fair, a couple of years ago would have been more than the starting stack for this event

6.28pm: Negreanu hit by jet lagDaniel Negreanu is asleep at the table. Well, he's certainly resting his head on the rail for a prolonged period anyway. Laurence Houghton seems to be the main beneficiary of his slumber as his chip climb has reached the heady heights of 60,000. -- RD

6.38pm: Taking advantage?Team PokerStars Daniel Negreanu took a break from yawing to win a three-way pot against Javier Garcia and Laurence Houghton. The latter two had history and Negreanu may have sneaked in to take advantage of this. The part of the recent history between Houghton and Garcia involved the former calling a raise from the latter and then calling bets on every street. The final board read Q♥4♣3♦A♠5♦ and when the Brit called the river bet he was shown J♠2♠ by Garcia for a rivered straight and wasn't best happy about it. Not long after Garcia raised from early position to 1,300 and was called by Houghton in mid-position and Negreanu in the small blind. The flop came 3♣Q♥5♥ and Garcia's 2,500 c-bet was called by both players. The turn came 2♦ and Negreanu paused before leading for 7,200. It was good to take the pot down as both players passed. Houghton slammed his cards down, smiled at Negreanu and went outside to get some air. His stack has slipped to 39,000 whereas Negreanu is up to 46,000. -- MC

11.05pm: Negreanu's blocker bluffed downDaniel Negreanu raised from the cut-off and was called by the button and the big blind. Negreanu made a continuation bet of 4,500 and was called by the wonderfully named Nysret Ahmeti on the button. Both players checked the A♦ turn before Negreanu made what seemed to be a small blocker bet on the 8♥ river. Ahmeti raised to 8,200 and Negreanu passed only to be shown 4♦5♦ with a flourish. Everyone loves to bluff a star of the game. "I only had king-high," said Negreanu shrugging off the bluff like water off a duck's back. -- RD

Day 1-BeenPosted 5 hours 42 minutes ago by danafish And with that, we are all out of Day 1s.Our chip leader with exactly 190,000 - and in fact chip leader overall going into Day 2 - is Laurence "rivermanl" Houghton. He was seated all day at our primary Table Of Death - among the folks who passed through there were Ramzi Jelassi and ElkY (both busted) and Daniel Negreanu (still in with 54,200) - but Houghton was not a big stack by any means until the latter stages of the day. Some of the folks who, like ElkY and Jelassi, will definitely not be progressing any further in this tournament owing to their complete lack of chips are John Juanda, David Benyamine, Rob Hollink, Marcel Luske and Dario Minieri.A happier day, though, was had by the likes of Fatima Moreira de Melo, Jan Heitmann, Nacho Barbero, reigning champion Pascal Perrault and latest-of-the-latecomers Tom "durrrr" Dwan - all will be joining the Day 1a survivors tomorrow back in the refined interior of the Kursalon for Day 2.The bags are still being counted, but it will most likely be somewhere in the region of 160 runners who finished Day 1b with chips still remaining in their possession, meaning that the Day 2 runners will number roughly 280. The full official chip counts will magically appear here at PokerNews in an hour or so, but beyond that, until noon tomorrow, it's goodnight Vienna.

3.06pm: Negreanu happily chirpingTeam PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu has had a very healthy first couple of levels here in Vienna. He started the day on 54,200 and has since trebled that, as shown by his twitter: "Great level at 148,800 avg is 100k blinds will be 1k 2k. Won a good pot against a steamer with 10-10 vs 66 all in preflop. I 4 bet he called."

5.10pm: Negreanu rockets up leader boardTeam Poker Stars Pro Daniel Negreanu now has a top three stack after more than doubling-up with pocket aces. There was a raise and flat call before Szymon Pieszczoch three-bet to 14,300 and a player on the button four-bet to 32,000. Negreanu then five-bet to 60,000 from the SB and called all-in when Pieszczoch pushed. The other three players involved backed away to leave it as a heads-up showdown.Pieszczoch: K♣K♠Negreanu: A♦A♥The board ran a safe (in Negreanu's eyes) 5♥2♥Q♦7♣5♣ to send the Canadian up to 422,000 and now has a great chance of back-to-back EPT cashes. -- MC

.32pm: Negreanu keeps on climbingDaniel Negreanu is on a tear at the moment. After winning that monster pot with aces he's just picked up the bullets again, this time in a heads up situation. The Canadian Team PokerStars Pro just got it in against Christiaan Rolle's pocket jacks to win a 145,000 pot taking him up to 500,000.Negreanu had led 7,500 into the 4♦7♣4♠ flop and been raised by Rolle to 20,000. Negreanu made the call and checked the 2♣ turn. Rolle insta-shoved after the check and Negreanu called just as quickly with his pocket aces. The K♥ didn't supply the two-outer the Dutchman was after. Could this be the EPT that Negreanu finally goes deep in? -- RD

7pm: Negreanu ends Adam's JerneyTeam PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu now has 806,000 and is the new chip leader after eliminating two players in one hand. Adam Jerney raised pre-flop and Negreanu flat called only for Jürgen Wenigwieser to move all-in for around 50,000. Jerney flat called this bet and then Negreanu moved all-in. Jerney, who had around 200,000 at the start of the hand called. Wenigwieser: 4♥4♦ Negreanu: T♥T♦Jerney: K♥K♦Understandably a large crowd gathered and it got even larger once the board ran 8♥Q♥Q♠J♥T♣. As Negreanu stacked his chips he recounted the hand to fellow Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree who's currently playing a side event. -- NW

Daniel Negreanu Bags Chip Lead as Day Two ConcludesPosted 12 minutes ago by Djinn The 278 returning players whittled themselves down to the money - 80 - in almost exactly the six 75-minute levels allotted them. It was as if Thomas Kremser could see into the future and pinpoint nearly precisely the minute when Gianni Giaroni would run big slick into Aces and exit in the unlucky bubble position, setting 80 players up for Day Three tomorrow.Today was Daniel Negreanu's day - a smattering of Aces (which took down both Kings and Jacks) set him up as a challenger for the lead, and a spike with Tens threeway vs. Adam Jerney's Kings and Jurgen Wenigwieser's Fours sent him firmly into pole position. He overtook start of day leaders like Martin Hruby and Sergii Baranov and finished with 893,000, a good six figures above the next challengers. Antonio Buonanno also finished with a healthy 704,500 after an eleventh-hour double through and Jose Severino too is up near the top with 635,000.Everyone returning tomorrow is guaranteed at least €8,000 for their participation in EPT Vienna, but for the majority of the players there's still plenty of play with the structure as it is and it will be all about jockeying for position as the potential for a super deep run arises. We'll be back at 12pm as the Day Three cards return to the air.

.20pm: More than just a chatWith no action before him Russian player Mikhail Olegovich Ryabkov raised 9,000 in the small blind which Daniel Negreanu called in the big. Ryabkov was quietly joking about something to Negreanu, who was nodding politely, but while Negreanu may have looked back at Ryabkov he seemed more interested in noting Russian's reaction to the 3♠4♥6♥ flop. Ryabkov's reaction was to bet 15,000. Negreanu's response was to raise to 30,000. At this point Ryabkov announced "all-in". Negreanu nodded and called, turning over 6♦4♠ to Ryabkov's K♦6♣. The Q♠ turn and 8♥ river ended Ryabkov's day. Negreanu up to 930,000. - SB
