this just happened wanted the forum's thought1 1 game NLguy who has been raising light a lot raises on the button to 9 gets 4 callersI have A 10 in the small blindflop is A 10 J with two clubsit's a really wet board so I lead out for 25 to see where i was at (it's irrelevant whether this is the right play or not)i get raised all in for 66 more by a guy who is likely on a drawback to the button and the preflop raiser - he doesn't realize that it isn't heads up and says I have top two pair so i have to call (he thought he was telling the truth)I point out that i'm in the hand and he's clearly hurt the guy on the draw - not sure whether I would have called but I show A 10 and say well if you have AJ I have to foldall in misses his flush and button shows A 10I thought he had angle shot me and was angry although later I realized he had just misspokenhe offered me a chop and I said I'll take a quarter - he was up big at the time so he just chopped it with meHow should this have played out at a casino or at a home game which this was?

I think ethically that if you're prepared to benefit from the information (and you would have if you folded against AJ), then you have to eat the loss when the information turns out to be bad. I think in effect you just had a very strong read which turned out to be wrong. If he announced top two-pair at showdown, however, and you muck a winning hand; then you should get the chop.

i sort of agree but after he said it and was chastised for it he said sorry but i was telling the truth - we're all friends but it could have been ugly

In a home game with friends I guess I apologize for not realizing your still in the hand. Then I audibly laugh at you while slowly stacking your chips one at a time into a couple of columns. All the while moving my shoulders up and down while singing, "top (stack) two (stack) I beat you (stack)." Every once in awhile I would make the chi-ching sound and hope you get all red faced so I can laugh at you some more. Eventually I might realize you're actually getting mad and agree that you deserve a portion of the pot and with a straight face, I'll offer you a one dollar chip. Then probably laugh at you again. In a casino I quietly stack the chips.

At a home game with friends, this played out as well as it could have. I mean the guy could have been a dick and said that you folded so you get nothing, so as it is, the guy did the right thing. Realize that this is a home game and people are always talking and it is not always going to go down strictly "casino style".

I dont know anyone, in a casino or home game, that after hearing "I have top two" from a guy who didnt realize there was another player to act, would proceed to sit and consider whether the perp was actually shooting an angle or maybe he just misread his hand. 99% of people will just immediately fold. That being the case, I think in a home game, if it doesnt go down like it did, thats some f*cked up shit. Or maybe its just the best angle ever?..... Easy enough to pretend you didnt know someone else was in the hand.

Interestingly, in a casino, I would blame myself and either sit and fume or leave and in a home game, if you did the above, I would almost certainly physically assault you.

Ya def this. I think he soul read you for exactly AT and said he he had AJ just to get you to fold so he wasn't eligible for only half the pot.His reads are def sick bc then you can jam all sets and AJ after he says this but he was so sure you had exactly the same 2 cards as him that he pulled off the greatest angle in the history of poker, and all at your home game no less! I think it varies based on the definition of "home game". Like my home games are of a very small value, in which the pot sizes are just enough to keep quality of play decent. I know other home games that you can see some 'large' pots. I always play home games very laxed, and in a situation like this, that is exactly the end result that would be expected.

Oh... yes.... I... would...
No....you wouldn't........Let me try to explain. If you're the type of person that would react badly to my obnoxious needling beyond a 'friendly' punch in the arm or a joke about my mom, then I'm not going to needle you. I mean, we probably wouldn't be a home game together as a bunch of friends anyway. Also, maybe I'm 5'2" and almost a buck twenty when wet. Nobody gets into a physical altercation with a person of my stature and feels good about themselves. Especially when the person hitting me looks like a gigantic ass who can't take an obvious joke. Keith would get it. Apparently you not so much.
