I was a big Master of Orion fan until the 3rd one came out and sucked big time. After years of real-time strat and FPS games I was itching for a good turn-based game and figured I'd try out Civ4. Totally random but after a couple hours of sheer confusion I've been sickly hooked. Now, can't wait for Civ5!! Wondering if there are any FCPers who play this game as well. Maybe we can set-up an FCP battle.Civ5 E3 TrailerCivilization V WebsiteCivilization-5.jpeg

Civ 2 is still the best civ game by far.Adding culture in Civ 3 was such a great idea, but they totally hurt the quality of the game by changing the engine for Civ 4 and 5.

How the shit do you have time for these games while you're basically raising a miniature civilization in your house?

can't comment on pre-civ4 since I got into the game late. However, how can you say Civ5 engine is lower quality before playing? A lot of the changes just seem to make sense.I'm taking vacation time to give Civ5 a good go so I'll have a review soon. Just hope the game comes out close to the launch date out here.

for my health, I have decided not to purchase this game
Are you sure?3 wordsGIANT DEATH ROBOTgdr.jpgA new feature has been posted at Civilization5.com detailing the Biggest Baddest Unit in Civilization VThe "Giant Death Robot" is a giant bipedal mechanical robot armed with a variety of missiles, Gatling gun arms, laser-beam eyes and a deadly kung-fu punch. Although not currently found in the modern battlefield, no doubt across the world governments and evil corporations are secretly developing these metal behemoths even as we speak. When these robots come into service, all of the world's other weaponry will become obsolete, and humanity's fate will be decided by a climactic battle between armies of good and evil Giant Death Robots in the streets of downtown Tokyo (assuming that the giant radioactive monsters don't get us first.)Combat Strength: 150Movement: 3Required Resource: UraniumRequired Tech: Nuclear FusionPenalty Attacking CitiesNo Defensive BonusesCan Move After Attacking

as long as they didn't take away china's splash damage crossbowmen or rome's retardedly powerful praetorians, there's still a possibility that I buy this game.I really hated the espionage aspect of the expansions.

Civ 1 and Civ 2 are both early 90's games. I was just a little kid!

Because I've read a bunch on it. It's basically the same as Civ 4, except they changed it to hexs. (which IS a great idea, btw)Civ 4 is great, because the game is great. But you should try to find a working copy of Civ 2, and you'll see what I'm talking about. After every wonder, they played a movie with actual footage in most cases, that was after 90 seconds long. They also hired actual actors to play your advisors, and they would yell at you and stuff if you screwed up. It was crazy fun.I also don't like how unrealistically huge the 'pieces' are, compared to the land around them. They should make them more realistic. (Civ 2 also had this problem, but it's seems different, since they weren't trying to make the 'pieces' realistic.) <-- I don't know if this makes sense out loud, but it makes a lot of sense in my head.

I started playing it a bit, and so far I like it. It is VERY different in a lot of ways to previous Civ games (besides the obvious hexes). I like that when your culture increases, your cities boarders don't get bigger all the way around, you only gain one hex. You can also buy the land around you to increase your boarders which I like as well. I also like that you can not stack your units like you could in the past. More strategy involved instead of having a huge stack of an army vs. another huge stack. I haven't played it enough to give a full review, but I do like it so far and I don't see any reason why I won't like it.

I kind've like the idea of no stacking but then how do you defend your city? or what do you do when you have a crapload of army but have no where within your border to put them?I love that they got rid of health cause that was retarded that happy/health was like a double penalty. But I think I'm going to miss religion...I've only just figured out why it's even important. I used to skip out on religion and just build military advances.guess it's better to just think of this game as a totally different game so the changes don't annoy me.

I loved it when the advisors reacted to each other too

The City defends itself and can attack units within 2 hexes of it. You can also 'Garrison' one unit into your city to help defend it even more. It works out pretty well. You basically need 4 units in your army surrounding a city in order to beat it down in a few turns to take it over.

OMG I'm tilting...I ordered online on Sep 24 and my tracker says it only shipped on Sep 28. WTF!?! The PC Game store is only a 1hr boat ride away!! *grumble* I should have just taken the ferry myself to buy the game.

there's a best buy within 30 minutes of here. I once ordered something online (with a gift card, god I would never shop there with cash) out of laziness and it took the full week to get here.self-pwned.

ok, finally got Civ5. maybe it's cause I'm not so familiar with the new setup but I'm finding this much less addictive than Civ4 so far. I haven't found the time to really put in a good session so I'm still going to give this version a go. I remember being pretty confused and feelign the same way when I first playing Civ.

I have played all previous civ editions, and this isn't, in my opinion, in their league. Some of the worst game play mechanics of any game I've played in past couple years. This is a real let down. Sid must have lost his marbles.

to be fair to Sid, he wasn't lead on this. he decided to give the lead designer/programmer role to Jon Shafer who previously was a big time modder for previous Civ games.

I'm tilted that approx 75% of the time I try to save, the game saves then freezes. This also happens about 50% of the time I use the pedia and 10% of times I open a message from a city-state. I've read this is more prevalent in the dirx10 mode so I might give it a shot in 9. Not 100% sold on the city-state concept either. It seems pretty cool in the early phases of the game but I think loses luster deeper in the game. Love the purchase land function, really like the hex based, haven't really explored the various social options much yet but so far seems to have some decent ones.

where the hell IS the "save game" button?ya, I've actually been playing Civ4 again recently. I know I haven't given Civ5 it's full chance yet but I feel like the learning curve requires me to really set aside some time.very possible your problem is computer...I haven't had any issues with freezing or whatever but know some people do if their computer don't meet the suggested requirement. Playing on Min. requirements = slow game.
