God Is Amazing

Recommended Posts

Its amazing how God manages to keep himself a hot topic.More atheists start threads about him then believers do. I guess it has something to do with the old saying that bad publicity is better than no publicity. He even managed to get himself bumped from 5 years ago in another forum. So keep on posting, and keep God fresh in everyones mind.

As time has gone on, I've found myself drifting more and more towards Atheism. Not because I hate God or anything....it just seems less realistic as I continue to think about it. Finding out that Jesus' story came out as a combination of multiple other stories before him certainly didn't help. I can't say that I don't have anything against Christians, because I do. I get upset when I'm told that I should be following their morals, but they don't have respect for my morals and tell me that I'm a sinner and I'm going to hell unless I repent to their morals. Having grown up Catholic, I get upset every time I see something about the Catholic Church. But that doesn't mean I don't respect em or their beliefs. You still make me uncomfortable, but if you believe God is awesome and He inspires you to do good in the world, that's awesome. Many of my friends are Christians and I do my best not to hold any prejudices. It's a shame this means I can't ever be president, though. Maybe in Canada?

Apparently you could be prime minister in Australia. Or at least, being an atheist wouldn't stop you.

Luckily you are in a country that you can choose to believe how you want. But the "Finding out that Jesus' story came out as a combination of multiple other stories before him certainly didn't help. " part of your post should be addressed. The Jesus story is a continuation of the OT story of the Messiah. The fulfillment of their prophecies. To try to say that the NT was a plagiarism of stories written after the OT is a badly thought out accusation. And the stories if you've read how the Osiris, Isis, etc Greek and roman mythologies fit 'perfectly' with the story of Christ, you are getting a really bad interpretation. Read the story as written by the greeks, or romans, and then tell me that you would in a million years connect the two. One chick kills her husband, chops him up and spreads his body parts around the whole world. Then gets randy and gathers them up for one last hump so she can get pregnant. And this is reported to be the model for the virgin birth of Christ? And even if they were remotely connected, there is no explanation how fisherman in a back woods section of the roman empire, got hold of Greek manuscripts of their religious beliefs and then stole from them, translated them into their own language, and then scoured their own religious manuscripts to try to match some similarities. Clearly this entire line of thinking is without merit and I challenge you to take the time on your own to read these so called 'original source' mythological stories to decide on your own.

What is the most resilient parasite? Bacteria? A virus? An intestinal worm? An idea. Resilient... highly contagious. Once an idea has taken hold of the brain it's almost impossible to eradicate. An idea that is fully formed - fully understood - that sticks; right in there somewhere.

Where would I find transcripts that don't hold bias either way? Or a good, objective expert that can refute these claims?

Unless I want to openly be a Muslim, or run for office. Which is really disappointing.

Library, just get the stories from these atheist who have been promoting this line lately, and look up the story for yourself. Then ask yourself if you would conclude that the Bible stole these stories?

Lucky for you this isn't the politics section or else I would do an Obama joke here. ( even though I know he is not a muslim, it is still a funny joke )

I've seen miracles in every wayAnd I see miracles everydayOceans spanning beyond my sightAnd a million stars way above em at nightWe don't have to be high to look in the skyAnd know that's a miracle opened wideLook at the mountains, trees, the seven seasAnd everything chilling underwater, pleaseHot lava, snow, rain and fogLong neck giraffes, and pet cats and dogs

Beautiful, just beautiful. Are you a poet, or just good at cut and paste?

Thank you so much for this fantastic insight. At least someone realizes that America does not even belong on the same list with those of the more culturally inclusive countries in the world. Let's make a list of those groups that have zero chance of becoming president:MuslimsGaysLesbiansBisexualsTransexualsAtheistsBuddhistsHindusSikhs ArabsNon-native born citizensAnyone with a turban or a long beardAnyone with nuanced religious views that require more than 5 seconds explanationAnyone with fringe religious viewsAnyone with even one fringe political view that would never affect his/her term because few congressmen would vote in favor of such a view.Anyone who has ever been a part of a radical, peaceful group, even if that was decades ago and the person has long ago denounced them. Most likely any black man or woman who does not sound as intellectual, one could go as far as to say as white as, BOAnyone who doesn't pander to "folks" or "ordinary Americans"Anyone who does not talk down to voters as if they were 3rd gradersAnyone who does not treat voters like cattle that need to be herded and proddedAnyone who has spoken out against the militaryAnyone who has draft dodged, even if he/she has spent time in jail, even though he/she had a strong moral objection to warAnyone not associated with a major political partyAnyone under the age of 35Anyone who admits they don't like baseball or footballAnyone who does not espouse the ridiculous idea of American exceptionalismMy fingers have not rested in the time I have been making this list. I could go on and on, probably naming at least a few dozen or so more groups.

Through my thorough research of original sources (OK, OK. I read the wikipedia article on Osiris.), I see that Osiris' brother Set dismembered him, not his wife Isis. Did the Greeks change the myth?
