Eve received an experiential knowledge of evil, she knew the theory of good and evil because she could think, but until she ate of the fruit, she had never experienced evil, and as such she now was tainted by the sin. It changed her because she wasn't made for this intimate knowledge of sin.

What God knows or doesn't know is above my understanding and it would be pretty lame for me to speculate beyond what He has revealed in the Bible.But this explanation fits much better with the entire storyline, that Eve's action brought sin and death onto mankind and required a intervention by God to save us.I guess I got a little hung up on the argument and ended up defending that Eve didn't receive knowledge because the implication that seeking knowledge is of course a good thing, but seeking the wrong kind is not. But to imply that the devil was the honest one is so contrary to the story and to what we know about his motives.
