Florida Poker Changes

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to offer some quick thoughts:As of July 1, Florida instituted massive changes to its poker laws. The old $100 max buy-in is gone forever. In its place is probably the best poker laws outside of Vegas/AC/Los Angeles. All games are allowed and there are no caps for buy-ins. The better casinos in the area (mostly Hard Rocks on Indian Reservations but also more generic card rooms) are offering a startlingly good selection of games.I was at the Hard Rock on a Tuesday and they had NLHE cash games running from 1/3 NL ($100--$300) to 25/50 NL ($2500 -- unlimited) plus lots of games in between. (I like the 2/5 game with a 200-600 min max the best). They are also spreading a number of Omaha H/L limit games and tons of PLO games (again ranging from 1/3 to 25/50). Apparently, the big games are running all the time. The best part is the level of play is still lol bad. I am ok at best and I have been cleaning up at the 2/5 NL level and it has not been as much about variance as it has the level of competition is 2004 era bad. (People stacking off 150 BBs with tptk and such). The rumor is that the Hard Rock in Hollywood or Tampa will be getting a WPT event in 2011 which is more good news and with winter (and tourist season) coming up the action should only get better.Anyone else enjoying Florida's poker boom?

Are there any real poker AKA Limit Holdem games ?
2/4 and 3/6 is all I saw. I am sure they would try and put together an interest list but the interest in real poker is surprisingly low! Someone said they had a 10/20 LHE game going last weekend but I cannot confirm that.

No but my Brother has a condo in Florida since he's there on business about half the time and he keeps wanting me to visit him there.

I've only been to Jacksonville once and that was many years ago, but they do have a dog track with poker, much like Sarasota. Here's a link.http://www.jaxpokerroom.com/

I think on the weekend you could definitely find some sort of stud game (I know I saw 1-5 stud being played once). But Florida is very holdem/omahi hi centric

I'm hitting up some place called the Daytona Beach Kennel and Poker Club tonight for some $65 buyin tournament and asked what live games they spread and unfortunately it's just 1/2, 2/4 and sometimes a 3/6 limit game. He did say a 5/10 no limit game got spread, but no limit is for suckers.

He lied. Unless they changed from the last time I went, which wasn't long ago. Haven't been since the law change, but I doubt the games are different.http://www.daytonagreyhound.com/pokerroom/limits.htmlIt's a pretty nice room, with plenty of bad players. I did play a $65 buyin tournament there once (not sure if it's the same one you're playing). It was pretty horrible.

Yeah, ended up being an $80 buyin after all the addons and what not. Decent turnout, 114 players, only top 10 payed, busted 24th when my KK couldn't beat AK AIPF, ace on turn. Blinds were a bit turboish, 20 minute levels, but structure jumped pretty high.Play was pretty horrible overall, had a guy call a 2500 preflop raise when blinds were 400/800 when he only had 3500 total, he binked his 86soooooted versus my AK. I won a retarded nice pot with QQ vs AJ on J high board. Was good time, sucked to get so close and get Barry Greensteined, but it is what it is.Played some 2/4 lhe for about an hour and it was like family pots every hand and at least 5 players to every show down so pretty much just became a card catching contest. Lost $9...$10 if you count the $1 chip I kept as a souvenier.I managed to win some money on the doggies so all kinda worked out. Much nicer room than I was expecting.only 1 more full day in FL ;/ tomorrow is ATV riding on the beach day!

http://blogs.trb.com/entertainment/news/ga...ked_for_ha.htmlWorld Poker Tour coming to Hard Rock in April 2011
Its prob gonna be at the hollywood casino. i have been to tampa and cant see a big tourney like that in that casino. the poker room is tiny. but im sure they would use a banquet hall ifthat even have one. but the cash games would be packed the room is so small. but is nice to see that took the cap off finally. i hated going to play 1/ with 100 max buy in and it was funny to see the guys playing 5/10 with 100 buy in too.

Yeah, the WPT was a fait accompli. Glad it is official.Sadly, I got crushed at the 2/5 NL tables last weekend (well not crushed, -$500, but it happened in ugly, ugly fashion.) time to start saving for satellites.
