My 12 year old daughter has shown an interest in playing houseleague hockey next year. She has never played hockey and has only figure skated.

I honestly don't know if I want her too now. I think it is too late for her age

its a little tougher for girls unless you out her in an all girls league, and then she'll be fine. At 12 (peewee) girls can no longer get dressed w the team. So it would be hard to be a new player stuck in a room by yourself. My alternate captain is a girl, has played for me for 3 years, and loves hockey. She HATES the separate dressing room. Says she feels like she doesn't belong

I will probably sign her up and put her in an all girls league. Definitely not with the boys.

That is the reason I pulled her out of baseball. Boys were pitching and I did not want them throwing at my girls head

What i meant about being to late is that she will behind other girls her age in skill. So I don't know if she would have fun being at the bottom. She is like me. Competitive

We have a 12 year old girl on our team..She has to get dressed in a refs room, bathroom or elsewhere..Its different , like Chris said.

My belief is unless she is too good to play on a girls team, I would say play with the girls..Its more social, more team oriented and she wouldnt be not included.

I am assuming since she figure skated, she is a pretty good skater..Maybe even better than most of the girls.

I miss playing.

Not enough to go get my shoulder dislocated again, but I really miss playing.

I felt your pain hearing that you dislocated your shoulder.

I am just going to glide around the ice since most of the guys are half my age.

I have not had hockey equipment on in almost a year. We have a parent/child hockey game this week. Last time I played in it, I got my shoulder dislocated. Looking forward to this year's injury.

I will be dragging my lazy behind out to play shinny for the first time this year

I seriously hope I don't pull anything

Well I survived. However everytime I skated to the other end, I wonder where the golf cart was to bring me back.

Sad day. My white Nike hockey skates of about 25 years old have died. The boot cracked and I can't use them anymore.

I now have to look for a new pair of skates before my next pickup game on Wednesday

Very feel good Canadian hockey story and just overall goodness of the hockey community.

Our friends who play on the Las Vegas Storm Peewee AA team were attending a tournament in Quebec. This is a huge once in a lifetime event for these kids. When they landed they noticed that Air Canada didnt put the team stick bag on the plane.

The sticks didnt make it there in time for their first game. One of the dads in Quebec managed to get together some sticks for the team and they were able to play.

There's a grade 8 kid on my stepson's school team...he's 12 or 13. A school in Ohio offered him a full scholarship to the program of his choice with all tuition and books paid for...plus room and board and $2,500 /month for spending money. His parents said no. They don't want him playing in the USA.

This kid is good...very small but very quick and can handle the puck at top speed. He's excellent defensively too. He uses his body very well. He's such a smart player...so fun to watch! Think Johnny Gaudreau.

My older daughter competed in the city finals in the 200m and long jump.

She ran the 200m and came in 5th. I personally thought she ran a bad race since her nemesis came in 2nd and she nearly beat her last time

In long jump she came in 4th and foot faulted on her first jump (and it was huge). Because of that she jumped scared

I might have missed my whole summer away. Both of my girls are going to play select fastpitch this year

It's official. I will be soaking in the sun watching my girls play fastpitch all summer. Either one of my girls will be playing in a tournament every single weekend in July/August.

My older daughter coach it seems is going for the kill. He wants to win. He took the best 12 players and is holding 2 practices a week (2 hours in length).

My younger daughter coach is just happy to have a team (we just had enough girls for try outs) and just wants the girls to learn the basics since this is the first year of competitive play for their age group.

Rep softball is insane. I don't think my girls will make it to that level. Select is fine with me even though it will cost me about $2,000 this summer for both my girls.

I survived the last weekend in the sun up in Vaughan (no sunburn only a dark tan). It did not start out too good as we got to the ballpark early (8 am for a game at 9 am). As my daughter was putting on her uniform she said to me "Daddy my bat bag". I was like oh no. Since she is a lefty it was no good plus she feels more comfortable with her own helmet and batting gloves. I race home and got back just before first pitch. We lost 8-5 since our pitching let us down. 2nd game it was a close one and it came down to the last inning with us up 5-4. For some reason the coach put my daughter in to pitch. She throws strikes but is slow. She got the first 2 batters and than walked the next girl on 4 pitches. The next batter she struck out. We won our first game.

The next game we lost 7-1 but the funny thing was the coach knew it would come down to run differential if we advance to the playoffs. In the last inning the coach had his daughter in to pitch. She loaded the bases and only 1 out. All of a sudden the coach comes out of the dugout and calls my daughter over. You see a little conversation and the coach's daughter trying to grab the ball back from her dad. My daughter is pitching now and after the 3rd pitch the batter pops it over to shortstop who catches it and steps on 2nd for a rare double play in mite girls softball.

It is going to be a fun summer.

The unfortunately part is we did not advance to the playoffs.

The next day we head over to Vaughan again because the Squirt B girls team (1-2 years older than my daughter) needed an extra player so I told them if they need one I will make my daughter play otherwise they have to forfeit all their games. We got killed the first 2 games. One team looked like a bunch of 16 year olds (age group was 10-11). The last game was memorable. We got mercied the first 3 innings so we are down 15-0. After the last out in the top of the 4th the game was called. The scorer on our team came over to me and said "it is not sad that we lost 15-0, the sad part is we did not get one person out".

At practice I can overhear the 2 coaches talking and one of them kept saying don't worry about my daughter pitching. He believes in our infielders to make the plays to get them out. Early on in the tryouts I told them that my daughter will only throw strikes but she will not be fast. That is something I need to work on with her.

My niece was a pitcher. She didn't throw fast but had good deception and movement.

This was her teammate on their National Championship teams. She was the number 1 pitcher and threw really really hard so my Niece was a nice contrast as the number 2. She had some health issues and only played 1 year of college ball.

If your daughter is hanging out with her teammates you can drive up to Port Perry and play a couple hours of poker.

My last weekend was spent at the ballparks for my girls. My older daughter played on Saturday and my younger one played on Sunday.

The Saturday started out pretty wild. Our first game was against Windsor. Back and forward game but we were able to tie the game in the bottom of the inning. We had a girl on 3rd and for some reason she ran to try and steal home plate (she is not fast). I was right behind the plate and the ball beat her easy but the tag was close. The ump called her safe and our team freaked. The head coach from Windsor lost it. He screamed at the Ump and belittle him. Also told him he is done umping, etc. He then told his girls not to shake our hands. We than had to leave the diamond for another diamond. I went to the car and the Windsor coach was standing next to his car and yelling at his daughter (she was the pitcher and is very good). The coach yelled at his crying daughter saying she is done. She is not pitching anymore today. She actually did pitch and they came in 3rd place.

Our team however won our next 2 games easy. My daughter is still struggling at the plate and striking out. We head into the semis and it did not start out good. They got 7 runs in the top of the first. Our team was dejected. However we scored 7 runs ourselves with my daughter getting the 7th rbi on a sharp grounder to 2nd. The game was close throughout when my daughter came up. Girls on 2nd and 3rd and 2 out. She hit a hard liner right up the middle and to the fence. She is fast so it was an easy home run. We eventually won easy.

In the finals against Brampton, she came up to bat with girls on 1st and 3rd. She hit one that had the left fielder just turn around and run back as it went over her head. I absolutely freaked. The game however got really close as Brampton was able to tie it with 4 runs in the top of the last inning. We were at the bottom of the battling order and the first 2 girls got out fast. The next one got a double and the next girl hit a single for us to get a walk off win.

The team of 13-14 year old girls were thrilled as were the parents. Best tournament we have ever played. The best part of it was that on Sunday my wife and I hosted a team party. Needless to say the girls were still pumped and we all got to sit back and enjoy the victory. Otto came by to get some extra food. I told him to get going since I don't think it would be appropriate to have a 20 year old guy with 13/14 year old girls in swimming suits.

My younger daughter had her tournament on the Sunday. I felt a complete letdown since we were on such a high the Saturday. I feel the younger daughter can have a good team if the coach played to win instead of using his daughter and another girl as pitchers (they both stink). But hey I am not the coach and never will be so I remain silent. The funny part is I was speaking with one of the moms. I told her that Otto was going to pick up my daughter since I have to prep for the party. She immediately said don't I will drive my daughter home. I than find out that she has 5 kids ranging from 13-3 years old. I told my wife and she said the reason she has 5 kids is because she shows her assets. I think the younger team is getting stronger since we have the addition of 2 stronger girls come back from summer vacation.

The issue now is when the provincials occur in 2 weeks. Both of my girls have it on the same weekend. So either I am heading to either Brampton or Brantford while my wife goes to the other one.
