When I first started playing poker seriously, there was one guy that really stood out. He was younger than I was and drank like a fish at the table. He was loud, but friendly for the most part. I was playing lhe, but eventually joined him in a mix game. I figured anyone drinking that much must be doing a fair amount of gambling. After a few sessions with him, I realized that he was an absoulute rock. To this day, he is still one of the most disciplined poker players I have ever met. He wasn't nitty, but he was essentially playing perfect poker for the games that we were playing. After a few years we became friends, and one night we ventured out to Vegas. On the flight, he explained that he really didn't feel like playing poker when we arrived. Instead he wanted to play in the pit, and bet on sports. While we were there he was throwing money at everything, gambling and losing huge. In the pit, and at sports, he was exactly what I thought he would be at the poker table.I soon realized that as I was playing poker, and when I was training people, everyone who plays seriously will want to gamble. It's pretty natural. You spend hours doing the right thing, making the correct decisions, etc. At some point, you just want to say screw it and go nuts. But I don't think that the pit and the sports book are the best places to do that.If anyone plays poker seriously, I highly reccomend taking a day every week or so that you just focus on nutbarring. Play micro cash games and tournaments and gamble up, play blind, etc. Make sure that the stakes and the money won or lost literally means nothing to you. Because you are still playing poker, you can get that tilt and gamble out of your system. This is one of the ways that I have found that people can help deal with the urge to gamble or tilt.I hope this helps. Good luck.

Nice. The concept obviously isn't an original one. I'm pretty sure that Daniel was one of the first people that discussed and introduced nutbarring when he was active on this forum. When most serious players sit down, they are really just looking to make money. It's a great relief to sit down and play for pure entertainment. I for one have forgotten to do that from time to time.........

Do you think that aside from "getting the gamble out" this can also help you maintain a level of the joy of the game?

I think so. It can also teach you about aggression, reading, etc. The point is really to just have fun. But, you can also use it as a learning tool if you approach it with that in mind. Obviously you need to adjust what you have learned according to who you are playing. Overall, the rewards are great.

good postprobably due to playing for a long time, i really don't get tilted that much. only when i take an extremely bad beat (not a cooler) , and that usually just ends up with me berating the person in the chat, but i don't go off and spew stacks anymore.i think eating healthier and working out also helps a lot.having a calm state of mind is great for your focus at the tables

I agree with eating healthy and exercising. It took me about 10 years to realize that was something I needed to do as well. Not only will it help you focus and keep your cool, it should assist with endurance. In all fairness, I would rather see somoene spewing stacks as opposed to berating somoeone in chat. Criticizing someone in chat literally accomplishes nothing. It can make a person realize the mistakes they are making and they will adjust accordingly. In addition, often there will be people watching a game and they are now under the impression that a person can behave poorly and get away with it.I find it sad and curious that people are quick to criticize online, and yet I RARELY see it live. And I have played at just about every major casino. I can't stress enough how bad it is to ridicule people that you play with.

I don't think I've played there.I was thinking about some of the differences between live and online.Live you might here somoene say, I can't believe you made that call/seriously?/nice hand (sarcastically)/etc.Online you might hear, you are the worst player ever, I hope you die of a disease that.............Obviously neither statement is great. But there are major differences.

You'll get berated and called all kinds of goodness if you nutbar 2/4 LHE live. good times
Really? I've nutbarred at 2-4lhe live. Most people love the action. The majority of players are calling anyway, they love it when the pots get big.

Playing roulette u have about -5% EV. Playing tilted poker, I'm sure ur EV is a lot lower than -5%. Therefore, I feel if u truly are on tilt, and MUST gamble (to get even, to get it out of ur system, to relax etc.), then sports betting or betting in the pit are bette options than playing poker.

I love the $1r turbo at 8:30 on Stars and this is where I have fun and gamble it up. It's only a few bucks but a great place to try out new plays and have some fun. Great advice!!!

That is a fun tourney, sometimes I even lag it up to like a 25% vpip in that. However, I would also say the first 45 minutes of the rebuy period are basically useless.
