digitalmonkey 929
Let's assume the following players retire...Peter ForsbergChris CheliosMike ModanoTeemu SelanneKeith TkachukScott NiedermeyerRod Brind'AmourJaromir JagrNicklas LidstromThis would leave the HHOF with quite the decision in 2013 because they can only select four to be inducted. Which four would you pick?
digitalmonkey 929
I'm going with:Nicklas LidstromJaromir JagrScott NiedermeyerTeemu Selanne
Dubey 1,035
I'd consider swapping out selanne for Modano. but other than that, my list is the same.
gruven 530
You can take Forsberg off the list, as well as Jagr: the HHOF criteria is 2 years removed from your highest level of hockey. They don't count the Euro leagues on par with the NHL so they would probably be immediately eligible. But for the discussion... JagrLidstromModanoNeidermeyer
serge 904
Thats a pretty hefty list..If we arent using Chris's point about Jagr and Forsberg not qualifying I go with:JagrLidstromNiedermayerSelanneTough to leave those other guys off the list though...
MapleLeafpoker 1,462
I found these 6 impossible to choose from.....Nicklas LidstromScott NiedermeyerPeter ForsbergMike ModanoTeemu SelanneJaromir JagrI would probably take out Jagr+Modano, but so hard to choose. First two are locks for me.
Zach6668 513
Jagr should be a lock in his first eligible year.
digitalmonkey 929
Jagr should be a lock in his first eligible year.Agreed! Jagr, Lidstrom and Niedermayer are definite locks! Selanne, Modano, Chelios and Tkachuk are the second tier. Forsberg missed too much time to knock out one of the other guys IMO. Brind'Amour isn't an option against these guys. MapleLeafpoker 1,462
Jagr should be a lock in his first eligible year. I dont have a lot of love for him, but Im probably overvaluing his on/off personna. When he was on, he was clearly one of the best in the game, but I hated those times where he went seasons without doing much.

When he was on, he was clearly one of the best in the game, but I hated those times where he went seasons without doing much.He was the best player in the NHL for a pretty long stretch. He fell off a little in his Was/NYR year, and then was just older in his NYR seasons, but still nearly a PPG in those years. He was such a dominant force from like 94 to 2001 with the Pens, though, and after Mario retired in 97, he was the best player in the league.5 Art Ross trophies, 3 Pearsons, 1 Hart. He was awesome. strategy 4
Tkachuk hasn't played HOF-caliber hockey in a decade or more. But he's 30th all-time in goals and I never saw him play at his peak, so my opinion means little. http://www.nhl.com/ice/careerstats.htm?fet...adersAllSeasonsIs he HOF material, then? strategy 4
And I just want to add, a little of this is angst over his performance since I started watching Blues hockey in 02-03. The guy hasn't lived up to his billing, always got sent to all-star games, etc. He was super loyal to St. Louis and allowed them to whore him out to Atlanta for a first round pick, so I don't hate him TOO much, I guess. I'd say Tkachuk is a definite Hall of Famer.I think he should be very borderline. At no point in his career has he been considered one of the best players in league and that was even during those 4 years or so when he was the most productive.Edit: of course I think there are a lot of not worthy players in the Hall of Fame

MapleLeafpoker 1,462
I didn't say I thought Tkachuk was more worthy than Selanne.ok, strike that. let me just ask:why quote pims about Tkachuks HOF possibility?
digitalmonkey 929
ok, strike that. let me just ask:why quote pims about Tkachuks HOF possibility?Because it's a rare feat to have 500 goals, 1000 points and 2000 PIMS. It's a sign of a power forward. Only two other players...Brendan Shanahan and Pat Verbeek...can claim those numbers. It's not like they accumulated their PIMs in the same manner as Tie Domi or Rob Ray.

I get that those 3 names are all good examples of power forwards and they helped their team in other ways, just hate that we measure it with pims.Im not sure that many of the pims Tkachuk accumulated were that much different than Tie's. Yes, he was a better player than Tie, but both got a lot of them fighting. Im sure Tkachuk got a higher share of coincidental roughing minors for "tough" play, but again, not a big bonus to me.Can anyone think of a good power forward that didnt get a lot of pims? The only name coming to me is Forsberg.
