Wsop Event #2: $50,000 Poker Player's Championship

Recommended Posts

It seems like every year in the biggest buy-in events at the World Series of Poker, there are allegations of marked cards. It's like it's not the World Series of Poker without that.Sure enough, John D'Agostino just found a marked card at Table Orange 323. The table was playing one of the stud games and one of D'Agostino's hole cards had a small "chip" taken out of it near the corner. D'Agostino stopped the deal before it was complete to call attention to the card. He asked if he should just flip it up, as he had not yet been dealt his door card. The dealer called the floor over to the table but continued the deal before the floor arrived, giving D'Agostino a third card, face up."I guess not," D'Agostino said to nobody. "How can I play this hand now?""You know you're playing with two cards, right?" said Tim Phan. When action came to D'Agostino he closed his hand. Then he turned up the marked card."Shockingly it was an ace," he remarked as he showed the ace of spades. "Who could have guessed?""Guys, there's better ways to mark cards than to rip the corner off."The defective card was quickly substituted out and play continued.

Shouldnt the be able to look at tape and see who did it? They should disqualify the player and have him arrested.

It's not that easy. There's so many tables, the cameras are really far and it's almost impossible to seesomeone mark a card

They probably arn't even being sly about it. There is probably somebody at that specific table who stands out as more of an unknown, being a 50k, than any other event.

While there are never any soft spots in a field of this quality, we've managed to single out one of the seven tables in action at the start of Day 3 which appears to be the one to watch this afternoon.Table 309 features the likes of Ivey, Alaei, Morrison, Michael Mizrachi, Singer, Elezra, Zolotow and Sagstrom. Ouch!

Holy shit!!!!Pot-Limit OmahaWhen it comes to suck-resucks, this is one for the books, even if it did happen in PLO.Lyle Berman limped in from UTG. Michael Mizrachi made it 108,000 to go from the button and Berman called. The flop was A :5c J :3h 6 :D and Berman checked to Mizrachi, who made a pot-sized bet. Berman reraised all-in and Mizrachi called.Mizrachi tabled A :club: A :D 5 :ts 4 :qh for top set while Berman revealed 7 :jh 7 :D 6 :D 6 :club: for bottom set and a flush draw. The 6 :4h on the turn made Berman quad sixes, but Mizrachi spiked a one-outer on the river, the A :ts falling to make him quad aces!Mizrachi leapt from his seat at the river card hit, his mouth agape and his hands on his head. He turned to his brother Robert, playing on the other table."Quads over QUADS!" Michael gasped as Robert craned his neck to get a look at the board.Meanwhile, Berman made a calm exit in 12th place, tucking his corduroy jacket around his shoulders as he left the table.

Day 4 Concludes - Our Final Table Is Set!Posted 2 hours 22 minutes ago by TassieDevil Final table chip leader Robert MizrachiThat brings an end to Day 4 of the $50,000 Poker Player's Championship. We've whittled the field down from 21 to our final 8 who will return tomorrow under the bright lights and ESPN cameras to play it out for the Chip Reese Memorial Trophy and $1.55 million in prize money. For only the second time in World Series of Poker history, a pair of brothers has made the final table together. Ross and Barny Boatman were the first, finishing seventh and ninth in a 2002 pot-limit Omaha event, and now Robert and Michael Mizrachi will go toe-to-toe tomorrow to see who wins family bragging rights. While Robert already has a WSOP bracelet, earned in the 2007 $10,000 World Championship Pot-Limit Omaha event, Michael is looking for his first one. Also gunning for their first bracelet are David Baker, Mikael Thuritz, David Oppenheim and Vladmir Schmelev. Daniel Alaei picked up his first bracelet last summer in the $10,000 Omaha Hi-Lo World Championship, while John Juanda is the veteran of this group with four WSOP wins including the 2008 WSOP-Europe Main Event. Here's a look at the official final table seating assignments and chip counts:Seat 1: David Baker - 3,095,000Seat 2: Mikael Thuritz - 2,300,000Seat 3: Vladimir Schmelev - 1,925,000Seat 4: John Juanda - 2,620,000Seat 5: Daniel Alaei - 1,705,000Seat 6: Michael Mizrachi - 2,620,000Seat 7: David Oppenheim - 460,000Seat 8: Robert Mizrachi - 3,125,000

Oppenheim started on a ludicrously short stack at the final table. Hell of a run to 3rd. Nice way for the Grinder to get his first bracelet......

pretty sure mizrachi reaaaaaaaally needed that money, good for him, he seems like a good guy
Yeah, I saw something about a tax issue. Anyone know the details? Kind of hard to believe he has no money considering his early success but I guess that it is not that uncommon for these guys.

Well that early success all came at once pretty much, which would have meant massive tax on the majority of his winnings. He's given over a good amount of those winnings to the government. A lean spell for several years after, with lots of big buy ins and no way to claim anything back, could all lead to running on fumes. And I think I heard his accountant sucked or something like that. Sweet timing though. :club:
