I listen to a podcast called Hardcore History, which I was turned onto by some people here. The same guy that does Hardcore History, Dan Carlin, has a podcast called Common Sense with Dan Carlin that is wonderful. I would advise all people to seek it out and start listening to it immediately. You can find it on itunes.

I don't want to start a new thread, so this one is going to turn into how great America is.http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0510/36738.htmlhttp://apnews.myway.com/article/20100504/D9FFRL480.htmlIt's pretty impressive that we were able to catch this guy so quickly.

I agree that it is a great country.I also agree that it is amazing, impressive, and wonderful how quickly they identified and caught this scumbag. However I don't completely disagree with those who will argue that it is also a little terrifying the powers, reach, and total capabilities of our Law Enforcement.I Love and fear my Government....and why do they seem to have this overpowering need to advertise certain details such as an additional VIN location that helped them identify the scumbag? This can only help educate the next scumbag who might have been just as ignorant and now may not make the same mistakes. Of course this was exactly one of the things that led to identifying the original World Trade Center bombers in 1993 - a VIN on the axle of the Ryder truck used in the bombing. So that public knowledge didn't seem to help this moron much.

The extra VIN location is common knowledge to the millions of people in the auto industry. It's actually in 3 places on virtually every car. Everyone always forgets about the sticker in the drivers door jam.I can only wonder how amazed people from other countries must be when they read this article... countries, where car bombs are normal and no one ever gets caught.

The suspect didn't still have the phone. But using a lot of technology and access to database, agents located the suspect....The attorney general ordered up substantial resources to track and capture the suspect.I am curious what exactly this means. Go us!

Through the cell phone I imagine they got his name by tracing other calls made on the phone and following up and once they got his name they found him at the airport either through his ticket purchase or maybe even through face recognition software when he was seen on a camera at the airport. Casinos have pretty sophisticated face recognition software so I assume what the Feds have is even better.

I was more thinking of things like this.I'm glad I'm not a terrorist.EDIT: I'm curious why no one has complained about any illegal searches or anything related to this. weird.

I thought the Tea Party wack jobs were behind this?
Well the main line liberal press did their best to get them blamed.I was listening to Michael Savage on the way back from LA and he had a hilarious sound bit of the news reporters all saying that it was a white male about 40 years old. Then you had Katie ( the genius ) Couric with Bloomberg talking about how this was probably someone unhappy with the healthcare bill.

So Faisal Shahzad was a registered democrat, probably voted for Obama...I'm not saying that all registered democrats hate America, I'm just saying that if you hate America you probably are a registered democrat

And I'm saying that if you hate America, you're probably, you know, not an American citizen and therefore not affiliated with any party.

But if you are an American citizen, AND you hate America..you probably voted for Obama, but almost never would you have voted for Bush.

Bump.I've been listening to Common Sense for months now, and it's really grown on me. (Thanks, BHeart)At first I thought Dan Carlin was a bit too conspiratorial for me. And indeed he does err on the side of trusting no one. But if you going into it with that in mind, you find that a) he's incredibly smart and knowledgable and b) he's right more often than not.

Yeah, Common Sense has grown on me too. I loved Hard core history from the first, but it took me a while to get into Common sense. And erring in the "trusting no one" is the side you should err on, imo.
