Another trip done. Stayed at Bellagio 3 nights during work, 5 nights at the suite at MGM for fun.

Some highlights I thought some of you would appreciate:

- Noodles at Bellagio. 3 meals, which is quite a bit for 4 days. But Dan+Steve were right on, great place, quality without being stupid expensive. Bellagio overall was fantastic. Its not the newest hotel, but the rooms are still very nice and the restaurants are good. Was perfect for our work days+nights.

- Went to the new club at Ceasars, Omnia, on like a Tuesday. Great terrace area with a good view of the strip. We left around 2am, and we were walking to the cab line when these 3 HUGE guys ask us what the club was like. They turn out to be very nice guys, though each one looks scarier than anyone I've ever met before. Suddenly one of them says "time to go", and they walk towards a car coming into the Ceasars driveway. Out from the car come 3 other huge guys, one woman..... and some really little dude who looks like a guy Bob would draft, but even smaller. As the little dude comes closer, I see who it is. Its Mayweather, walking in with what looks like the Cowboys offensive line. He even gave us a hello wave when we said hi. Serge is right, he IS "good people"! :)

- My buddy met and talked to Nick Diaz. Evidently he's some UFC guy? I dont know him at all, but he seemed like a big deal to some around us. We actually saw him twice. Seemed nice enough.

- I hardly ever play blackjack. One night I went on a cold run on roulette, so I figured time to play something else. It was 3am already, but work had just finished, I felt like letting off some steam, so why not.(to stop gambling+go to sleep just never entered my train of thought)

Five hours later, I had played non stop blackjack at the same table with an Italian, Dutchman, 2 Mexican ladies and a guy from Austin Texas. We went on one of those runs that people say "you cant leave a table while its hot" (which has pretty much never happened to me before), and I figured if the Mexican ladies were willing to miss their flight,(pretty sure they did), I had no business leaving the table to sleep. There was actually a crowd watching us by the end, silly degenerate gamblers that we all are at 3-8am. Got really drunk too, since all the guys at the table kept ordering drinks. Who am I to not go along with the roll? Seriously fun, and profitable. Well, til I played anything else.

sidenote: The Dutchman was on a trip with his wife, his son from his first marriage, and his sons husband. The funniest part was watching women drool all over the son+son in law, quite possibly the best looking men I have ever seen in person. Even had a work associate come up to me at the table at 5am, and she was obviously looking for me to intro her to them, flirting with them with little regard for subtlety. I didn't have the heart to tell her the full story when I talked to her later. They were great guys, so much fun to get to know and drink with.

Second coolest family I ever met while gambling. The first was a bridal party from San Antonio, so much fun.

- My first night, I saw a guy lose 3k in Roulette in 20min at a $10 table. The next 20min he took out a 2k marker, made it all back, and walked away up $1.5k. I bumped into him the next night at another casino roulette table and then saw him again the following 2 nights at non-gambling areas. We actually introduced ourselves and we were laughing about the coincidences, but I'm pretty sure we both thought the other must be a stalker. I have to admit, after watching him play and seeing something a buddy of mine always does, I feel like I have a more "solid" way to play roulette. Its just a stupid game of bingo, but I admit I have always loved roulette, and now with this so called system, I seem to go on nice rolls at times. Overall I will still lose (duh) but its one of the more fun games to play for me.

- Had a pool cabana one of the days with the guys. So at like noon, we're in the cabana and on the TV I see Serena playing in the semis of the French Open. She loses the first set, and I recall how I saw a stat the day before that she is like 11-2 the last 13 times she lost the first set. I say something, my friend argues she wont come back and we get into a betting scenario where Im offering him +160 while I take Serena. I suddenly start thinking....wait, its 9pm in Paris, not just 6pm, this isnt live! I check the phone, yup Serena comes back to win, tape delay.

(NBC was actually showing it with a "NBC Live" logo on the screen. Strange.) Naturally I offer my friend +210. Bets were made, but never collected any of the cash.

- One afternoon, Armen is in the suite and hears a knock. Figures its one of our friends who just came up with him, but went to his room first to drop off something. (We get the suite at the end of the hall, and our friends have all the rooms right next to us. We give them keys and they get to use the suite all the time. Great setup for a group, as everyone has their own bed/room, but one place to congregate)

So knock on the door, Armen opens up and some very drunk stranger walks right into the room, looking like he spent the whole day drinking at the pool party. He's huge. Looks at A, and says "Im gonna punch you in the face if you dont get out of my room" and proceeds to eat one of our bananas and drink our Gatorade. He then goes into A's room while A is in my room calling security. "Where are all my clothes, and who the fck shrunk my shirts!"

Anyway, another friend of ours shows up, they convince the guy hes on the wrong floor and he leaves, just as security arrives. I miss it all.

Later that night, some 6ft 6, 280lb of pure muscle guy taps me on the shoulder, and says "Sorry buddy, I heard it was your room I was in. I cant believe I was that drunk from the pool. I owe you a banana and a Gatorade!" His brother comes over to apologize too, again, really nice people once the booze wore off. lol

Turns out they were 27th floor, we were 24th.

- Saturday: Wake up, bet on Champions League, all of us win. Yay Barcelona! Then we all bet on Belmont/Triple Crown. Crap, almost all of us lose. I hit the Exactor. It paid jack sh*t. Stupid favourites.

Then we all bet on Tampa, yay, we all win again. I know there are better ways to spend 7/8hours, but gambling mixed in with sports gambling, was just about perfect for our last few daytime hours.

There's other stuff, I just cant remember them all. Great times, I miss it already.

Serge, can I come live with you for 3 weeks every 3 months?

4 days in Vegas and I didn't put even one bet in any pit game. I did play some video poker as I had to use my $50 slot credit. Turned into $75 win.

I truly don't like to gamble.

But I did put in a ton of hours at the poker tables.

The a huge part of the gambling for me is the table atmosphere and the people I always end up meeting+talking with. Poker used to have that too, but now, whenever I walk into a room, there's guys with hoodies+sunglasses+earphones on, acting like Ivey at the final table, when they're just playing lowly 1-2NL like me. (I also hate the impossibility of finding limit games)

I just hate the serious shit, it bores me so fast. Its Vegas, Im there to have fun.

I will play poker at Niagara, and I will NEVER play any other pit games at Niagara, since there everyone at every table of gambling looks depressed+upset. I actually hate Niagara tbh, even when Im there I dont gamble. They all look like they cashed in the mortgage cheque 5min ago and are on one last run for glory.

I used to think I liked gambling a lot, then I realized I only enjoy it at fun tables, win or lose. (mostly lose)

Might try CNE with Wayne out of curiousity since Ive never been.

haha wow. Great trip report Arp. It's got me all jacked up for my trip now!

this reminds me of a story.

the year was.. 2008 or so. A vegas trip like any other, with a bunch of my buddies. It was our first night and about 10 of us had gathered at the little margarita place at the MGM in the underground shopping area or whatever right off the front entrance. It was like 9 PM, some guys were just showing up, but me and a few guys ahd been there all day drinking already. As people are rolling in, I notice that my best buddy has managed to get himself extraordinarily drunk. He tells me that he is going to go back to the room to "have a nap". I tell him to hold on for a minute, and that I'd walk back to the room with him to make sure he got there ok. I turn around to chat with a few other guys from the group and let them know I'll be back in 10 minutes, and when I turn back, my buddy has vanished.

I looked around for him and he was nowhere to be found. I tried his phone, and he wasn't answering. Finally, after looking around, and trying his phone again, he picked up.

Me: "Hey man, where are you?"

Him: *inaudible sounds. "I'm all good. got Doritos. see ya, going to the room" Click.

Now, as I'm writing this, it occurs to me that I shouldn't have considered this explanation acceptable, but hey, it was my first night in Vegas, and I guess I didn't feel like going on a wild goose chase for my drunk buddy.

Anyway, I put him out of my mind and went on to have a great night with my other friends. Got back to the room at about 5 AM, and he wasn't there. I panic a bit, and call his phone. He picks up on the 5th ring or so.

Me: "Garrett?"

him: "Where am I"

me: "I have no idea"

him: "I'm lying on a bed surrounded by cool ranch doritos. umm, I'll call you back"

So, a few minutes later he knocks on the door to the room. our room number was 1435.He woke up in room 1535. When he left the room, he noticed that the door lock on the room door was warped, and wouldn't close properly. He has a vague recollection of kicking the door in to try to get it open, and possibly either getting in that way or being let in by a staff member. Both seem unreasonable to me. He also had an outgoing text message from his phone to the number "1435" that just said "let me in". I guess he opened up a bag of doritos that he'd managed to purchase from the convenience store by the elevators, and it had somehow exploded all over the bed, and he passed out on a pile of doritos. He was paranoid for the rest of the trip that MGM security was going to track him down with camera footage and he would get in trouble, but nothing ever came of it.

lman, the Doritos add so much to the story!

and lol at "Where am I"

I get this text once a trip minimum from someone in my group. I also get a lot of "Where are you?" sent to me, because I kind of tend to disappear myself, more out of actual intention than drunken stupor. I think Vegas solo can be a blast.

I have now done 4 separate types of Vegas trips

1..With buddies

2. With my wife

3. Solo trip

4. With the wife and kids

I had fun in all the different types of trips..All the trips have their own flavour..

I would NEVER consider going anywhere on vacation by myself, other than Vegas...

Hmm come to think of it I have done even two other types ..

Vegas with my parents( I was 20, gambled underage)

Vegas with just my dad..

Wow..thats now 6 different types of trips I can recall..

Here's the strange thing for me.....I've only been on 2 trips to Vegas my whole life that wasn't around work.

Once with wife+another couple, the other because my good friend was down there for work, and we visited and tagged onto his trip.

I really want to make a pure 4/5 day trip without any work hassles, preferably early fall. Say like some time in September, and spend like one afternoon thinking about hockey, and maybe doing some kind of fantasy league, and drafting/bidding on players. Would be cool if it was a keeper league, and the guys in it were like friends of mine who happened to be in Vegas at the same time. Hmmm, that sounds like fun!!!!

Since the Ahl has grumpy peeps that won't all come out , had a good idea.

Let's put together a brand new pool. Call it the Las Vegas Hockey Pool( im sure we can be more creative)

It can be a bunch of guys from all over North America ( world even, Swackers Dave??) where once a year we convene in Vegas for 3-4 nights of drafting , degenning, and just catching up.

Doesn't have to be intense AHL type, but a semi deep keeper league for a semi meaningful amount of money a year( Arp I'm thinking CBS type pool)

It's a great idea IMO.

You could make the AHL a "Premiership League"... anyone who doesn't come to Vegas for the draft get "Relegated" to Tier 2! LOL

Those pods are the best thing ever

I heartily recommend never flying in one unless you can do it regularly. Once you've gotten a taste, it's so painful to walk through that cabin to economy. For Vegas, totally worth the business class upgrade.
