Anyone going to Frozen Fury in September? Double header this year, Kings vs Rangers on Friday night, and Kings vs Avalanche on Saturday night.

Very tempted to find a weekend in September to go. Might try to angle around FF.

I might consider the FF so my son can get his autograph fix.

Usually all the teams stay at the MGM and walk to the arena. Very easy to get autographs. Robitaille also holds a Celebrity Poker Tournament before the games. Usually all the Kings players/broadcasters play in it as well as players from the Avalanche. All the NHL Players have bounties on them of jerseys and sticks and such.

Call me crazy but I am seriously considering this.

Electronic Daisy Carnival.

Last year while we were there, 120,000 EDM (Elec Dance Music) fans descended upon Vegas. Though the main event takes place outside at the raceway, there is still a huge presence obviously.

On the Saturday night, they had to stop/cancel the shows at 11pm due to sand storms, and by midnight the Strip and all casinos turned into a EDM convention, neon colours+sky high kids everywhere. They also really like to keep yelling "EDC!!!" anytime they see one of their own, which as you can imagine was often.

I didnt mind the EDC fans, its just they jacked up the hotel prices and the cab lines got longer. Otherwise, whatever, its Vegas, to each his own.

Even my friends+I were joking about the upcoming EDC during our trip a few weeks back.

When in doubt ask Arp for the answer. Thanks for the clarification.

You'll enjoy it. Most of the players just walk around and what not. Here's what the Kings fans have now called the Gauntlet

Thanks I am looking at flights. Seriously considering it.

Wife just gave the okay. Son is going ga ga over trying to get Patrick Roy.

Roy was tough when he was a player, hopefully he's better now that he's a head coach. One year my parents and I stopped and chatted with Bob Miller and Roy was walking by with his golf bag. Bob yelled something like he had the wrong sticks in his hand. He might have kept on walking but I don't quite recall. The Kings always stay at the MGM, and sometimes the Avs stay at Mirage because of Lacroix's close relationship with Rene Angelil. In the end it's all MGM properties. Usually the players just walk through the hotel all day long. Practice isn't open to the public but the arena area is.

I think we are going to make it. Yes Roy is a tough one. I also heard the same thing about Messier and some how my son got him. So miracles do happen. The prospect of Duchesne, Mackinnon/Jones, Landeskog, Sakic and Roy is amazing.

I am back in the office trying to get some work done, but lets be real my mind is on the strip and the poker rooms..This trip was WAY too short and its a bit of a blur..

We landed on Sunday on time with some turbulence...

We took a Sunwing Charter...Sunwing is ok that, they dont charge you for food, checked in bags and basic things..But its cramped and not enough legroom.

I wont go into a detailed blow by blow , will just go over the highlights:

MGM GRAND CHECK IN:

I was a bit shocked that walking into the MGM on a Sunday it was packed at check in...I already had my beer in hand so I wasnt worried about the 10-15 minute wait..One thing in Vegas is they know how to handle the crowds. The whole time in line I practiced the $20 trick...However this time it wasnt meant to be as the hotel was 99 % at capacity and no suites available. She did say she would of upgraded us if she had the rooms..Not sure if its real but , I tried. The room we got is the Grand King in the newly renovated West Tower..Very close to the lobby...I liked the room...Automatic blinds, HDTV..Nice touches.

FOOD

First night we took it easy and went for a nice dinner at Maggianos..Across the Wynn..Great italian food..Very nice restaurant..Good prices..

Most of the next 3 days would be spent with me playing poker during the day, my wife with our friends hanging out at the pool, shopping..Meet up at night for dinner...

4 days in Vegas and had no buffets..(WINNER)..Second night we ate at an AMAZING sushi place called I LOVE SUSHI in Henderson..We had friends there and ate like kings, drank...The sushi was the best i ever had(we usually go all you can eat, this wasnt)..There were 4 couples ...The bill came to $300..not bad at all.

The other dinners were Pampas the Brazilian Steakhouse at Planet Hollywood and Diego Mexican at the MGM...Pampas was ok, wife didnt like it..Diego was amazing...If you go there make sure you do the fresh Guacamole..The server prepares it with fresh Avocado right in front of you.

POKER AND GAMBLING:

I played a LOT of poker ...But didnt play the limits I wanted to...Call me conservative , with little time in Vegas I dont like to play in the higher stakes, where if I take a bad session, tough to get it back by grinding..Regardless this was a fun trip with the wife and friends so I played low...

Orleans $4-8 Omaha Hi lo with a half kill....Loved this game..great action, obviously I ran bad..Ended up booking a $50 win

MGM $1-2....Great action..I played in this for 3 sessions as I stayed there...Total profit $275

Mirage $3-6.....Its sort of sad to see this room..I love the Mirage and remember the days when I walked in and used to see Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan playing in the room. All the action was there...Now they only get $3-6 and $1-2NL...They have great promotions in the mornings. Bad beats and Aces cracked gets $75..Not much luck though lost a total of $117 in this room, including a $65 tourney where I lost with Aces, AK, and JJ in a span of 30 minutes..

Venetian...This is my favourite room..Hot waitresses..Great service..Red bull in a can, Fiji water, top notch dealers..AND they give you $2 an hour to play poker..Most places are $1 an hour. 3 sessions here...Broke even the first day...Won $31 and then had the worst session for the trip where I lost $300 playing $4-8 Omaha..Probably my biggest loss for this game ever...I didnt win anything for 4 hours..Not even a half..Total Venetian tally down $269..

Overall in Poker in about 25 hours of play I ended up $4 in live play...Lost $65 in a tourney..

Consider all the drinks I had where I tipped a buck, i was actually up more..But the tourney brought the numbers down.

I made $45 in slots and lost a $20 sports bet BAD BEATED when I had the Spurs moneyline in game 6 and got screwed out of $77..

I also have some Blue Jays World Series bets at 75-1 and 30-1...Ridicolous as online its 14-1..

So the numbers are a little small and not exciting but thats the way I rolled this trip...

RIO AND THE WSOP

I decided to take a few hours and head over to RIO as couple of buddies from Toronto were playing in the $1000 Turbo event..I was hoping to play in an event, but chickened out as its a bit out of my comfort zone to put down $1000 or $1500 on a tourney..My buddy was on the table with Mario Ho..Cute girl..Some of you remember her from Amazing race..She ended up busting him in the 4th level..Ran into some pros Antonio Esfendiari, Greg Raymer, Allen Cunningham, Gavin Smith, Vanessa Selbst, Jenn Tilly(who ended up cashing I think 13th), Chino Rheem. Then we ran into Phil Hellmuth..Looking stoic and pissed off as ever.

Then walked into the Amazon Room, where Daniel had a huge stack in the $5000 NL 6 handed...He sees me right away and said what the hell are you doing here, showed him my FCP hat and said I am representing. Phil Galfond who was sitting next to him had a chuckle..That guy is a beast..I think Daniel had a downfall later in the day and had a small cash. Erik Lindgren won the event.

The WSOP at the RIO is an amazing place to be..The Amazon room is just awesome and if you are a poker player, its something you need to see ..I m sure the main event time will be even more amazing.

SHOW

This time on our trip we had time for one show..We went to see KA at the MGM..We had comped tickets through are package..It was amazing...The stage is humongous and a great show..Much recommended..

THE STRIP

So even though we had a car, I walked the strip quiet a bit, as the wife and friends took car during day...Walked the trek from Venetian to MGM twice...Not a bad walk but the hooker cards get REALLY annoying...It has to be the worst marketing ever..Who orders a hooker from a card...The new thing on the strip now is people dress up like Spiderman, Mario and Luigi, Darth Vader and you take pictures for a buck or two...The Kobe Bryant look alike was pretty cool...

The amount of hot women that are in Vegas is pretty amazing..Even during the week the flow of tight , short dresses is non stop...Top end quality is there...Our hotel was full of these women...I would think on the weekend when Hakkasan is open even more would be around..

So this trip was a bit calm..No hookers and blow..But I had a good time and already planning the next one...
