Shuffle Up & Deal!Level 1: 100-200, anteThere are currently 117 players registered for this event, though we expect a lot of players to show up late (some as late as tomorrow). The total field size won't be known until 5:00 pm PT tomorrow. The players start with quadruple stacks, so their $25,000 buyin gets them a starting stack of 100,000 in chips. The opening blinds are 100-200, so each player has 500 big blinds to work with. The players who register late start with full starting stacks, so a player who starts fresh tomorrow will face blinds of 400-800 with a 100 ante (125 bb). Players who wait until the last possible moment to register will start in Level 9 with blinds at 800-1,600 with a 200 ante (62.5 bb).

Daniel Negreanu & Carlos Mortensen Make a DealLevel 1: 100-200, anteDaniel Negreanu and Carlos Mortensen were side-by-side while registering for this event, talking about the upcoming schedule for poker tournaments. Both players plan to enter the EPT Championship in Monte Carlo, but Negreanu pointed out that if you win this event, you won't be able to play in that one. Mortensen argued that it was possible, flying out on the earliest flight the next morning to get to Monte Carlo the following afternoon. You'd miss the first few hours of the tournament. Negreanu and Mortensen decided to make a deal. If either of them wins this tournament, they will charter a private jet to take both of them straight to Monte Carlo.

I get into Vegas tomorrow morning. Bob, are we allowed to rail at the WPT championship? Could be fun to stop by for a bit.
I'm sure you'll be able to rail.

Table 53 is the perfect example of what makes the WPT Championship a great event. There are many great players seated at the table and it will interesting to see how they approach each other during the deep stack poker that will dominate day 1.Seat 2: Christian HarderSeat 4: Daniel NegreanuSeat 5: Gavin SmithSeat 6: Andre AkkariSeat 7: Steve O’DwyerSeat 8: John JuandaSeat 9: Billy Baxter

What is it about the WPT that starts off so deep, yet ends at such a crap-shoot?
Here's the tourney structure. Other's can probably comment better than I can on it.Level Blinds Ante 1 100-200 0 2 100-200 25 3 150-300 25 4 200-400 50 5 300-600 75 6 400-800 100 7 500-1,000 100 8 600-1,200 200 9 800-1,600 200 10 1,000-2,000 300 11 1,200-2,400 300 12 1,500-3,000 400 13 2,000-4,000 400 14 2,500-5,000 500 15 3,000-6,000 500 16 4,000-8,000 1,000 17 5,000-10,000 1,000 18 6,000-12,000 2,000 19 8,000-16,000 2,000 20 10,000-20,000 3,000 21 12,000-24,000 3,000 22 15,000-30,000 4,000 23 20,000-40,000 4,000 24 25,000-50,000 5,000 25 30,000-60,000 5,000 26 40,000-80,000 10,000 27 50,000-100,000 10,000 28 60,000-120,000 15,000 29 80,000-160,000 15,000 30 100,000-200,000 20,000 31 120,000-240,000 20,000 32 150,000-300,000 25,000 33 200,000-400,000 25,000 34 300,000-600,000 50,000 35 400,000-800,000 75,000 36 500,000-1,000,000 100,000

And its 90 minute levels throughout?Well that looks like a fantastic structure. Makes you wonder why the play at the final table is always so fast.

Is there 2 day 1's? 149 is a really sad field if not.
There's only one Day 1 but players can register tomorrow as well up until level 8 so the final number will be quite a bit higher. Players who register late start with a full stack so a lot of players don't care about missing the early levels since they start the tournament so deep.

No question the WPT has lost a lot of ground. The EPT in San Remo Italy this week for example had 1240 entrants with a buyin of € 5,000$25K WPT Championships Entrants2003 - 1112004 - 3432005 - 4522006 - 6052007 - 6392008 - 5452009 - 3382010 ????

Huge in Europe right now. a few weeks ago I played the million and I was the only North American at my starting table.
Good news for everyone long term. I feel like the WSOP might have substantially larger fields throughout this year which would be fun.

jack mcclelland F'd himself with this tournament hard. All of the prelims were $500 or 1k events, mostly rebuys which had pretty horrible turnout. 40 or less players for a bunch of them. In prior years the series prior to the WPT championship had tons of good events with 100+ players, but until a couple weeks ago the schedule was 100% $1k rebuys, which I don't know a single player that was excited about. EPT san remo was over capacity, even though the continent had half its flights grounded due to the volcano. Pretty incredible imo.

CardPlayer updates are terrible so far. They have had DN on 155k for 3 hours. Yet his twitter reported 93k.Just read a hand with Paul Wasicka where his A(d)K(h) beat Slaubaugh's J(h)9(h) on a 9(h)5©5(d)T(h)6(d) board. ???"Mortensen Takes a HitCarlos Mortensen raised to 7,800 preflop under the gun and both the button and Jim Bechtel (small blind) made the call. The flop was dealt J43 and Mortensen bet 10,000. The button made the call and Bechtel mucked. The turn and river were dealt 6 and 4 and both players checked each street. The button turned over J10 and Mortensen mucked. The Matador was down to 90,000 after the hand."WHAT? Blinds are 150/300 and Mortensen raises UTG to 7,800???????

I decided not to play this yr because the prelims were terrible and I thought the turnout would be really small again but didn't expect this big of a drop.

Preflop: Justin Bonomo Folds K-K, Keith Lehr Folds Q-QLevel 5: 300-600, 75 anteA player in middle position limps for 600, Keith Lehr raises from middle position to 2,700, and Justin Bonomo reraises from the button to 8,500. The middle-position player limp-reraises to 21,000, leaving himself 36,000 behind.Lehr thinks for a bit before folding, and then Bonomo tanks for about two minutes before tossing KK face up into the center of the table -- a fold. Lehr says, "I folded two red queens." The middle-position player pushed his cards to the dealer face down as he received the pot, not offering any information about his hand. Isaac Haxton says, "You've gotta show something when a guy folds kings!" The player shrugs, but doesn't show. After the hand, Lehr told Bonomo that he would have gone broke to him if the other guy wasn't in the hand. Justin Bonomo - 99,000Keith Lehr - 87,000

Shawn Buchanan Leads Day 1 of the WPT World ChampionshipLevel 6: 400-800, 100 anteWPT World Championship, Day 1 RecapThe eighth season of the World Poker Tour is coming to a conclusion with the $25,000 WPT World Championship. In addition to the prizepool and the title of WPT Champion, there is also a hotly-contested Player of the Year race nearing the finish line. Day 1 began shortly after 12:00 noon PT with 117 players, and another 44 players signed up during the day to increase the field size to 161. Registration remains open until about 5:00 pm PT on Day 2, and we expect the field to approach 200 players. Everyone who registers overnight will begin play with a full starting stack of 100,000, which is still worth 125 big blinds at the start of Day 2. That's much better than the players who busted on Day 1, or those returning to Day 2 with a short stack. But some players made the most of their Day 1. Here's a look at the Top 10 chip counts with 138 players remaining:1. Shawn Buchanan - 388,6002. Brian Lemke - 298,8253. David Benyamine - 291,2754. Yevgeniy Timoshenko - 277,3755. Soheil Shamseddin - 244,0006. Chris Moore - 243,7007. Cody Slaubaugh - 231,3008. Phil Ivey - 230,2509. Todd Terry - 213,82510. Christian Harder - 211,675Faraz Jaka finished the day in 95th place with 86,325. Jaka leads the WPT Player of the Year race, but his lead is far from safe. Among the chipleaders, Soheil Shamseddin could catch him with a third-place (or higher) finish, and Todd Terry could catch Jaka with a fourth-place (or higher) finish. Another 25 players or so are also in the running if they reach the final table. Of course, Jaka controls his own destiny as long as he is still alive in the tournament. Bellagio is running another satellite this evening to add players to the field, and we expect a fresh group of players (including Phil Hellmuth, Andy Bloch, and Tom "Durrrr" Dwan) to buy in before registration closes.

thanks. The Bellagio can be a bit snooty.....thought you might know.
I went by there yesterday afternoon. They are holding the tourney in the Fontana Lounge. Only one entrance with a security guard standing watch. No railing for this one. Bummer.
