It's Masters Week! All is good in the universe.I've already bet $200 to win $240 on Phil beating Tiger heads up. Man Boobs FTW!Did any of you buy what Tiger was selling yesterday (as all of the sportscasters seemed to do). To me, he looked nervous at first, but got more comfortable as he answered the questions with premeditated, rehearsed answers. Of course it's what we all expected, but it really didn't do anything for me.Tiger's in a tough predicament. He knows that he can't be seen as a cocky SOB, but we all know that is what makes him so good on the course.

I have $100 on Tiger not getting a top 5. He hasn't been in a competitive round in like 5 months and is happy for the first time in years.
He might not have had sex in a few months..All that pent up energy, i bet his drives go 25 yards longer.

I think Tiger is going to surprise everyone. Will he win? I don't know if I would go that far, but if you were ever going to bet against one guy winning a tournament, do you really wanna bet against Tiger? He won the US OPEN with ONE good leg for christs sake. The man is a beast and I think this whole ordeal is going to make him more focused than ever. We shall see.

I'm going against public opinion and saying that he will not do well in this one. His goal for this tournament is to fix his public image. They're already saying that he's been nicer to the fans this week, even interacting with the crowd. He said in the press conference that he would tone down his anger about bad shots, but along with that, we wouldn't be seeing the celebrations as much either. That's not the Tiger Woods we all know. Part of what makes him so good is his intensity and cockiness.I think he'll spend this week worried about how his actions will affect public opinion about him. It will be an inner turmoil every time he hits a bad shot or makes a 40 footer.Eventually (once he feels he has restored a good public image), we'll see the old Tiger. But for this week, I doubt it. Adding that to the fact that he hasn't hit a competitive shot in 5 months, I predict a finish somewhere on the second or third page of the leaderboard.

I don't think the public opinion is that he is going to do well. I don't think many people are predicting him to win or finish very high up. I still think he will be fine though. You can be intense and still have interactions with fans, etc. Tiger can say he will limit his emotions, which will probably be true for the most part, but I guarantee if he starts making big shots, the positive emotions are going to come out anyways. You just aren't going to see him cursing after a bad shot. He hasn't played competitive golf for 5 or so months, but its not like he hasn't been golfing. Tiger wouldn't enter a tournament he didn't feel like he could win. So I guarantee you he feels his game is ready to go. It will be definitely interesting to see how it all plays out.

No chance Tiger is in the top 5. I'll take a bet(s) totaling $200, you taking -150 (sportsbook.com, i'll offer better if you can find it) that Tiger does not place in top 5, including ties. Will need to transfer via Stars. Willing to escrow if needed.Quote for bookage.

Taking time out from the Tiger discussion to pay tribute to the greatest Masters ever - 1986.Many of you weren't born then, but I'm an old fart, so I remember it well. I watched the final round in a college dormitory TV room. When the coverage began, I was sitting by myself, rooting for The Bear. As Jack made his charge, anybody who walked into the room was captivated by what was happening. By the time Jack hit his shot on #16 to within a couple of feet, the room was full of guys going absolutely nuts. I watched a lot of sporting events in that room over 5 years, but nothing compared to that day.It was the day I fell in love with golf.(and since this is part of the OT forum, I have to clarify that by "golf" I mean the sport, not some cute, hunky foreign exchange student from Sweden) here's a good 10 minute highlight tape from the 86 masters:The Greatest Masters Ever...and now back to the Tiger debate. I was going to put some more money on Phil vs Tiger, but the overnight line dropped from +135 to +110, so I think I'll stay with the $200 I've bet so far. I did put $20 at 11/4 that Tiger would bogey the 1st hole.

If this is directed at me, I'm not saying he will top 5. I just mean that it wouldn't surprise mean even a little bit if he does. He hasn't played competitively for months and we don't know how he is going to react to the media, fans, pressure of coming back from the sex scandal, but I would never bet against Tiger. I mean NEVER. He is going to fine, like I said earlier, he isn't going to enter a golf tournament he doesn't feel he is ready for. I think you are all silly for betting against Tiger, regardless of the outcome :club:

Wasn't directed at you....just a lot of Tiger love going on in here. I would be more surprised if he made top 5 than if he missed the cut. I think the atmosphere around Augusta was the perfect opportunity for him to come back. Controlled media, controlled crowds, controlled surroundings. It is probably the most respectful gallery in golf. If the British Open were the first major there is zero chance he would play in that. I do not think Tiger is ready to come back to competitive golf and am willing to risk some money on my opinion. I think he won't play very often this season. He might be making his "return" to golf at Augusta, but he certainly is not back.

What are you basing this argument on? Don't take this the wrong way because I know you said its your opinion, but I'm just curious. I don't see how you can say he isn't ready to come back. Almost everyone they asked about Tiger said he is 75%+ and I'm pretty sure that 75% of Tiger's game is enough to compete. It is a fact that he has been working with Hank on his swing a lot lately, and he has been playing numerous practice rounds in preparation. This is a tournament he is comfortable in, has a good history in, and is surrounded by people that truly care about him as a person. I don't see one compelling argument that he isn't ready. Based on your statement, when do you think he would be ready to come back? What requirements does he need to meet to be ready?

I know this wasn't directed at me, but I'll take it.First, I'll state that I completely respect Tiger's game. I remember watching golf n the early '90s and hearing the announcers, on several occasions, stating that there would never be another player like Jack or Arnie that would dominate the game. "The players now are just too good", they would say. Well, Tiger came along and completely dominated the game. You can root for him or against him, but you have to admit that he is a great player.I just don't see him doing well in THIS tournament, for these reasons:1. I don't care who you are, when you take 5 months off from competitive golf, you will be rusty. Tiger still has the skills to do better than a lot of the field, but I don't see him contending for the title. Again, I'm predicting 2nd or 3rd page of the leaderboard.2. What are the goals for Team Tiger this week? I'll go out on a limb and say that the number one goal is just to be accepted back into the "golfing family" without any major incidents. This is why they chose the Masters as the comeback tournament. Augusta National has complete control over their patrons. If you heckled Tiger at the (put any other tournament name here) Tournament, you'd get kicked out for the day. Heckle Tiger this weekend, and you'll lose your badge privileges for life. It is very important that they get through this tournament with the ability to say, "Look at how well the crowds are treating Tiger!" It sets the stage for the rest of the year. I say that he'd play this weekend no matter how good he was hitting the ball. With all of that said, I'll admit that if anyone has the ability to overcome all of this and win the Masters, it's Tiger. I'm willing to bet (a lot of money for me) that he won't contend.and #3 -- It seems as the golf gods themselves are going to get a little kick in while he's down. They're predicting a storm front to move in on Thursday afternoon, with high winds, right in the middle of his opening round. Thank you Bobby Jones. And while we're at it. Nike's latest ad has me wanting to go out and buy their products, so that I too can stand in front of a TV camera looking like a fool and getting lectured by my father, who has returned from the grave to reprimand me.Yeah, it's Thursday! Opening round starts in a few hours!

Wedge took care of for me it in one simple statement.
I say that he'd play this weekend no matter how good he was hitting the ball.
I wish I could have found a futures line back in January for when he would come back. I might be able to hang with durrrr. Tiger simply would not be playing right now if it were not the Masters. He would be taking another month, maybe two, maybe more off before playing. This is the absolute perfect environment for Tiger to make a "return". If things go really well then we might see more of him sooner than we would have otherwise. By "go well" I don't necessarily mean a successful placing. I agree that everything about this tournament is set up for Tiger. I'll even give it to you that he is 75% ready. Sorry that I am not on Tiger's bandwagon enough to think that 75% of him can top 5 at an invitation only tourney. Even with all of those things going for him. Just no way.To answer your last two questions. "Ready" is relative. I think Tiger is "ready" to play golf. He always will be. However, I do not think he is ready to content for a Masters top 5. He needs more time to work on his game, he needs more time to work on the new social/mental environment that surrounds him. I think Tiger could be the most mentally tough athlete of all time, but this situation has put humility and embarrassment into him like no one could imagine. That takes some time to overcome. I'll be the first to come back and eat crow if he does though. However, I'm am really, really, really!!! hoping more people take me up on my bet though. I'll even keep it open up until Tiger tees off today.

You'll have to get in line behind me if it happens.I guess us Georgians think alike. Where "north of Atlanta" are you? I was born in Atlanta, grew up in Marietta, and spent most of my adult life in Rome/Cartersville.

And Watson starts at -2 through 3. Awesome.Watching Masters Live on the net right now. No players at amen corner, so it's nothing but dogwoods, azaleas, mocking birds singing, and the flag fluttering in the wind. Even more awesome. And the announcers not realizing they are actually on the air, trying to decide how to pronounce Bernhard Langer's last name. LOLedit: Damn, they realized it and cut the footage,

Ok if he finishes top 3 at Augusta it's time to test the old coot for HGH just to be safe. This is pretty ridiculous.
