serge 904
Also, I disagree that MC79hockey is one of the smartest dudes on twitter. He is one of the bloggers with the most time on his hands to micro-analyze stats. He certainly thinks he's one of the smartest guys on twitter, I do believe that Fancy stats are a valid tool, and can give us excellent insight into the game. I do not believe that they tell the whole story, and they can't be relied on 100% as the only tool to evaluate teams and players. That guy sounds like Mirtle.. All he does is spew his Corsi and Fenwick and advanced stats, on why he thinks the Leafs have been lucky...I think the Giveaway stat is the stupidest stat these guys follow. No, he's the equivalent of one of the guys that Mirtle gets his opinions from.
Dubey 1,035
fwiw, I actually think Dellow/mc79hockey is a pretty smart guy and I do read his blog semi-regularly. I don't like his twitter persona however, and unfollowed him a while back. He's dead wrong about the oilers first 4 games though
serge 904
The one game that I watched they looked so brutal and were down 3-0...If it wasnt for an epic failure by the Devils and Brodeur, the Oilers would have no points.
digitalmonkey 929
I think we forget how young this team still is.
Dubey 1,035
Taylor Hall injured. Potentially long term. Cue the winning streak.
serge 904
Does this mean Stratchupov is safe for now
Dubey 1,035
he'll probably go PPG while Hall is out.
serge 904
It looks like Hall is out for about 4 weeks. Small yet interesting trade..Ex Leaf tough guy, hard worker Mike Brown was traded to the Sharks.
serge 904
What's the story in this game? Box score reads Dubnyk had one shot , one save?
Zach6668 513
Labarbera got the start, let in 3 goals, the last 2 in like 30 seconds, got pulled, smashed his stick on the boards, and then they put him back in a minute later.

serge 904
Dubey injured? Damn so many top goalies going down. Hopefully not serious

Dubey 1,035
unrelated to the RNH signing and Danny's story, I was actually planning on bumping this thread to say that this is the year I think the Oilers will finally be competing for, and probably making the playoffs. All the kids are a year older, which helps. Perron and Ference were excellent pickups. But the big X factor is Dallas Eakins. I think he is the first coach in recent memory who will actually demand accountability from a few guys who desperately need accountability. I love what he did with the young kids on the Marlies, and I think he was the perfect coach to bring into this dressing room at this time. hahahahahahaha
serge 904
How secure is Eakins job? I know they just hired him, but this team has too much talent, and too much money tied up in these guys for them not performing well.
Dubey 1,035
Probably not very secure. if this road trip goes poorly, I could see him getting canned.
MapleLeafpoker 1,462
Really? That would be ludicrous. I mean, them firing him would just be such a nonsense move so early on. Something has to give, but I cant imagine them being so stupid as to blame it on him. Not saying he's done a good job, but at what point do you just admit the team as setup isnt working out, or that probably, you just have to wait for the young guns to mature. Dubey 1,035
I doubt he gets fired, but if they get embarrassed for another few games in a row, it wouldn't shock me to see him fired. Not that I agree with it.

This is very true, but they cant fire the players...Especially the ones they have chosen to "marry" for 6 years.. We arent in the locker room, but this isnt the Sabres who are lacking in talent..This team should be winning more games..They should have the talent to compete for a playoff spot. From everythin I heard about Eakins, is that he is a great coach and all the players in Toronto loved him, but who knows. This isnt the AHL...
digitalmonkey 929
Who the hell are these people who just assume a 19-year-old Russian is going to come in and be effective right away in the best hockey league in the world? The teenagers who do that are the exceptions.
