How should we proceed on this flop? Note: After playing with this villain for a while, I noticed he was leading for 1BB into nearly every pot on the flop. If raised, he would sometimes fold and sometimes call.

you're overplaying your hands...Q8 isn't that good on this board. Raise preflop and proceed from there. If villain was calling/folding to flop raises mostly, then his 3-bet here should scare you a bit, especially since this pot was limped.

A limped pot with four players seeing a flop with a paired board and the BB is tipping chips in .... fold fold.

Fold preflop
agreed, but dont put a massive amount of chips into the middle if you find yourself on this flop

I guess this is a concept I need to get used to. Let me see if I understand: I look at Q8 on the button here and, after the limper plus the blinds and antes, I'm getting like 4 to 1 on a call. Instead, I should be trying to punish the limpers and steal. Is this correct?I will try to incorporate this into my game for my next session.

in NLHE having the initiative is very profitable just because making hands is hard to do. By isolating preflop you're giving yourself a chance to win without making a hand. When you're in position you should want the initiative even more because it provides you with more tools - players check to the raiser, and if you want to take a free card or pot control, then you're at a liberty to do so.

you are facing a station in the co, make hands and bet/raise him, but there is no need for thin lines, he will pay off when you connect nicely, that is what stations do

Here I come again with my conservative advice: keep it simple and just fold preflop. Q8 is trash. The problem is similar to the 73s hand - what flop are you really going to like? Honestly, unless you're a world-class postflop player you're just not going to make money playing hands like this.

unless you flop two pair, i really dont put hardly any money into the pot. not conservative, just smart. like swolys said, if you feel you can play it postflop, it isnt a horrible call, but if you can't just avoid it and save your money
