General Question...online Vs Live Cash Games, No Limit

Recommended Posts

she'll probably be mad at you for sneaking behind her back to play poker. she'll see the winnings as nothing but an illusion that'll bring you back to where you were before. imo
I have no other options...I love playing, and she won't budge. I'm not naive anymore, and if I begin to notice even an inkling that I'm less than break-even at the game I'm playing, I will stop. But she doesnt see it my way. What would you guys do?
This is a -EV strategy IMO
lol...i love it how everything always ends up being and related to either +EV or -EV

I've never been in a situation like that where I've had to hide something I like doing (besides porn obv) to any of my gfs. I've never been married either so the idea of not doing something because my wife said so just doesn't relate to my world at all. I'm not an ******* or anything but if you're crusading against my poker or video games or whatever (and she may have good reasons, like your wife sounds like she does) then aight see you later. The problem w/poker is that to a mainstream audience it's viewed like any other form of gambling. Of course we know better. My current gf thought that I was an addict when we first got together...I explained to her how poker worked and why it was different from say craps or even blackjack. I showed her my results. I also don't gamble for all that much money so it doesn't come across as "gambling," more like a "hobby." My dad actually got mad at me for not taking more shots once. He was like, 'so the highest you've played is a $50 buy-in?" I said yea, and he says, "you seriously believe you're better than most of these guys online?" I said yea, and he goes "then why the hell aren't you playing higher??!?" Encouraging me to gambool, niceSo I guess if I were you I'd try to let her know how important poker is to me and to keep her as informed as possible about it. You could let her know that many successful poker players were ignorant like you were, and that they took had lost money before beginning to learn the game and making money. I can say that doing this behind her back is a terrible idea because eventually she will find out, and it'll look like you're sneaking around because you're guilty and that you know you have a "problem."

I could get locked up for a couple months if they find out I play online... i know the feelingalso, on the subject of being an addict:I have an extremely addictive personality, am in NA, AA, and have sought private counseling. What I've found through all of this is that the ultimate tell tale of whether or not you have an addition is if you are destroying/neglecting other parts of your life that should be priority in order to sustain the activity/substance you are addicted to.If you spew 20g's at 2NL and are unable to pay mortgage, utils, and are selling your government sponsored food stamps for a buyin, then your wife has a solid grounds to ban you from the game. Otherwise, grind on brotha

LOL...what's this talk about 2NL? If iwas playing 2NL i'd go in on every hand...But seriously, thanks for the replies...and ninja ace, I know how you feel..i have an extremely addictive personality as well. But 3 kids makes you think rationally...u should try having one..lol..And trystero, i've tried explaining the whole thing to her...but because she's never known me as a winning player (i'm not really there yet...i'd have to be a winning player for a year at least to consider myself that), it's kind of hard to support my argument...she'll be like "who the @$#2 u think u are? phil ivey?"..haha...
