doox 15
After watching the USA/Russian women's hockey blowout, I have a question - why are the russian women so bad in comparison? Does Russia not put money/effort into their women's program? I mean, they're a powerhouse as far as putting out male talent, so you'd think their women's team would at least be competitive. I think the countires with strong womans rights are the ones that have strong woman sport teams. The russian federation is not going to put its muscle behind womens hockey because it means only one Olympic medal. Individual sports is another matter for Russia. China is the obvious exception to this argument.Look at the countires that do well in all womans team sports and most all have strong womans rights (basketball, soccer, hockey)The theory has some holes but I think it is a factor. I know almost nothing about Russia, so I wouldn't even begin to know what kind of programs they have. I do know they had a REALLY young back-up goalie at 16. I just feel bad for them. For a country with the resources that Russia has, you'd think they'd consider it a matter of national pride and do something about it.

I think it has to do also with the peoples perception, not just how the bureaucracy runs the sport.ie. Old school parents wont send their daughters to hockey. The Carlin quote is one of my all time favourites too.
